Dreamscape: Site Stats

July 16th, 2024

I sometimes get asked why I still regularly update a website that’s been online for close to 25 years… Well, I’ve always saw this as, essentially, a great hobby and something I enjoy doing. I have a busy, and varied, life but I’ve always found time to update this website and having been a Toyah fan for the past 44 years, I’ve enjoyed reporting on Toyah’s career for the past 25… One other reason is that Dreamscape is still an incredibly popular, much visited website. The stats aren’t always as busy as they were in the past week but we do get a lot of visitors!

Dreamscape: Site Stats

February 13th, 2020

Dreamscape is almost 20! In my spare time I’m slowly bringing the Press Archive, Features and a few other slightly neglected site sections up-to-date.

I’m also planning on installing an SSL Certificate to the site. Though it isn’t necessary as Dreamscape does not collect any info on visitors or sell anything. But a secure site seems to be the way to go these days.

Whenever I sporadically question whether a “fan site” is still pertinent, appropriate or even relevant in 2020, when social media seems to be all, I check the hit stats for this site and I always find it mindboggling that so many Toyah fans from so many areas of the planet visit here.

It’s been almost a year since the last stats update, so… In the last day there have been visits from the UK, Australia, South Africa, Germany, United States, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Bulgaria, Philippines, China, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Japan, Turkey, Poland, New Zealand, India, Hungary.

Toyah has such a global fanbase. Thanks to everyone who still takes the time to visit.

December 9th, 2018

stats18aHey! It’s Christmas, an ideal time to take one of our, very sporadic, looks at the visitor stats to this website.

In these times of social media essentially becoming the internet for many people, this site is still very busy and continues to receive 100′s of unique visitors each and every day.

Even on the quietest day of the last couple of months, which was Saturday 20th October, there were still 130 unique visitors. I have friends who run well-known Madonna, Doctor Who and U2 fansites and all say social media has seriously affected their visitor stats over recent years.

In the last 24 hours alone there have been visits to Dreamscape from: United Kingdom, United States, Israel, Switzerland, Japan, Italy, South Africa, Canada, Australia, France, Thailand, Sweden, Netherlands, China, Poland, Jersey, Estonia, Germany and Austria.

stats14aI must confess, I haven’t looked at Dreamscape’s stats for a good while. Just been too busy with other things.

Louder: Toyah Summoned To St James’ Palace

June 21st, 2024

“I was summoned to have tea with the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. We talked about the philosophy of punk.” In 1980, when Britain’s royal family wanted “to see what a punk rocker looks like” they invited Toyah Willcox to St James’s Palace

Toyah recalls the day she talked punk rock with royalty

In the summer of 1977, punk rock gatecrashed into the mainstream consciousness in Britain when the Sex Pistols’ second single, God Save The Queen, entered the UK charts at number 2 during the week of the official observation of Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee: it’s widely believed that the single was actually the UK’s highest-selling single that week, but the official chart stats were deliberately ‘adjusted’ to ensure that the nation’s most infamous punk band were kept from reaching number one.

As controversial as the song was, however, it seems that it didn’t necessarily alarm the monarchy, for three years later, punk starlet Toyah Willcox was summoned to one of London’s royal palaces so that Queen Elizabeth’s mother and sister could see at close quarters “what a punk rocker looks like,” according to a new [paywalled] interview the singer has given to The Telegraph.

Dreamscape: A Website… In Locomotion!

January 2nd, 2024

On 10th March, this year, Dreamscape will enter it’s 25th year online – which I’m astounded by, the time has passed so quickly and a lot has happened, but I’m particularly proud that Dreamscape has always been an active website, with constant updates. This site was started in the internet’s infancy and predominantly as a way of supporting Toyah’s career when no one else seemed to be. Over the years it’s been a delight to see Toyah’s popularity grow and grow online to the point where a fan website isn’t actually necessary, but I continue with Dreamscape, essentially because I love doing this as a hobby and celebration of my all-time favourite music artist!, but also we still welcome a lot of visitors each and every day, so we haven’t yet become irrelevant. The week leading up to Christmas, Dreamscape – despite technical issues – had well over 8000 page views!

NB. Apologies the site has been a bit wobbly since the beginning of December. It’s an ongoing issue with the database and I’ve been working on sorting this and also have some changes planned – yes, I know I said that this time last year…

Congratulations to Toyah. Anthem returns to the Official UK Album Chart, exactly 40 years after it left – in 1982, after spending a year on the chart.

Posh Pop: Toyah’s Highest Charting Studio Album Since 1982!!

September 3rd, 2021

This is incredible news, and a huge congratulations to Toyah. As well as Simon Darlow, Bobby Willcox and the entire team who brought us Posh Pop.

The 2021 studio album charts today at #22 on the Official UK Album Chart. Posh Pop becomes Toyah’s highest charting studio album since 1982, when The Changeling peaked at #6. Warrior Rock: Toyah On Tour, a live double album – which will be reissued in the next year or so, as will the rest of Toyah’s post-The Blue Meaning Safari Records’ back catalogue – peaked at #20 that same year.

The only other Toyah albums to peak higher than this are Anthem (1981) #2, The Changeling (1982) #6 and the aforementioned Warrior Rock: Toyah On Tour (1982) #20. Posh Pop equals with, another live album, Toyah! Toyah! Toyah! (1980) which hit #22 in early 1981.

Further great news is that Posh Pop achieves Toyah her highest ever chart position as a solo artist, and the album is also #1 on the official Independent chart, #6 on the official Physical chart, #6 on the official Sales chart, #9 on the official Vinyl chart, #20 on the official Download chart and #8 on the official Scottish chart. Phew! Amazing stats! If the Album Chart was, as it used to be, simply a sales chart Toyah would certainly have a Top 10 album!!

Dreamscape – Toyah.Net: You Tube Channel

May 27th, 2020

Following our recent post about Toyah’s official You Tube channel… Here’s one about this website’s –  Dreamscape’s You Tube channel.

Our You Tube is pretty much what you’d expect from a fan based channel. We’ve compiled a selection of retro interviews, Toyah TV appearances and more from throughout Toyah’s career (which I believe is now in its 45th year if Glitter – filmed 1975, aired 1976 – is regarded as the very beginning!).

We are rollercoasting towards 1K of subscribers, and our most popular video is Toyah: This Is Your Life, which as of writing has been viewed 184,629 times and is currently increasing by around 2K views per day. Not that I’m a stats freak of course! Please click below to visit Dreamscape’s You Tube Toyah channel (which also includes some rare Madonna footage).
