Britain’s Favourite 80s Songs: Channel 5: Friday 4th August: 10pm 1989. Series 1, episode 10. Jackie Brambles narrates this look back at 1989, the era of Madonna, Milli Vanilli and Jason Donovan. Toyah Willcox, Paul Gambaccini, Cheryl Baker and Jenny Powell add their thoughts on the year when the Bangles’ Eternal Flame was a huge hit, Lisa Stansfield sang All Around The World, and Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers were almost unstoppable.
This exclusive interview excerpt – for Toyah Tuesday – (from the DVD of the 2CD+DVD) sees Toyah reflecting on the experience of making The Changeling, and using digital recording equipment for the first time.

Beyond Awesome! It’s a summer of The Changeling – recalling a similar summer back in 1982, but bringing one of Toyah’s most iconic eras, and studio albums, bang up to date. The remastered and expanded album is reissued on three wonderful formats at the end of Summer 2023 – on 29th September.

Britain’s Favourite 80s Songs: Channel 5: Friday 28th July: 10pm 1988. Series 1, episode 9. Jenny Powell narrates this look back at 1988, when Bros, Belinda Carlisle and Bomb the Bass were riding high in the charts, and Kylie Minogue went from soap icon to pop star. Toyah Willcox, Paul Gambaccini, Cheryl Baker and Sam Fox add their thoughts on the year when Fairground Attraction had a Perfect hit, the Hollies were back in the charts, and Yazz and the Plastic Population breathed new life into 1980 song The Only Way Is Up.

Cherry Red continue to work through Toyah’s Safari Records output and, in September, will reissue the band’s 1982 album, The Changeling, across a number of formats.
The album was produced by Steve Lillywhite and featured just the one single, ‘Brave New World’, which peaked at No 21 in the UK. The album has been newly remastered for this archive release.
Like Anthem, The Changeling is being made available as a big super deluxe edition box set, in addition to a 2CD+DVD package and a coloured vinyl LP version.
The 2CD+DVD version probably offers the best bang for your buck, with a whopping 31 bonus tracks including work-in-progress mixes, instrumental outtakes and demos. 20 of these are previously unreleased and three are new-to-CD. The NTSC, region-free DVD offers a 2023 interview with Toyah Willcox and her track-by-track commentary along with loads of TV appearances from back in the day.
The forthcoming Deluxe Box Set of The Changeling includes CDs, DVD, bonus CD, splatter vinyl, book, postcards, print and this gorgeous 12″ Picture Disc, featuring Changeling and Brave New World imagery – another first for The Changeling.

First up it’s a vintage 1982 interview from Get Set For Summer. This interview accompanied three live performances of songs from the then as yet unreleased Changeling album with the newly formed 1982 tour band.
