Music Republic Magazine: Toyah Willcox – Track Record…

December 31st, 2021

Toyah Willcox needs little introduction; musician, actress, author and presenter….and latterly in lockdowns – internet sensation.

In a pop career spanning more than 40 years, Toyah has released circa 20 albums and scored 13 Top 40 hits, including the 1980s anthems “It’s a Mystery” and “I Want To Be Free”.

Toyah secured her place in the UK’s acting pantheon in the 1970s, starring in at least 40 plays and 10 feature films – perhaps most notably in Derek Jarman’s cult punk movie “Jubilee” (1978) and the iconic mods‘n’rockers film “Quadrophenia” (1979), while at the same time demonstrating her diverse talent by playing Miranda in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”.

Legends… Since then, Toyah’s acting credits have seen her billed alongside the likes of Katherine Hepburn, Sir Laurence Olivier, Greta Scaachi and Harvey Keitel…and even seen her enter the world of children’s TV presenting.

Daily Mail: Toyah Willcox Showcases Her Ageless Physique

December 31st, 2021

Toyah Willcox, 63, showcases her ageless physique in a VERY racy black ensemble before changing into a green dress at Cabaret All Stars

Toyah Willcox proved that age is simply a number as she posed in a racy black ensemble at Cabaret All Stars on Thursday.

The musician, 63, wowed in a semi sheer top with a sexy criss-cross pattern which she paired with a black mini skirt in the closing night of her sell-out show.

Toyah elevated her height with leather knee high boots, and finished the ensemble with a beige and orange headpiece.

Toyah later posed in a green dress which had a high neck and frilly sleeves, which she paired with black tights. She had styled her blonde bob in a straight style and lashings of bronzer and a red lipstick.

Toyah also posed with many of her pals from the club including one who wore a bondage style lingerie set and mesh sleeves.

The performance comes after Toyah starred in videos on YouTube wearing very racy ensembles during lockdown.

She covered her nipples with black tape and went braless under a sheer embellished blouse in one video and shared the hashtag #FreeBritney, Toyah belted out her famous hit, Toxic, as she performed alongside her guitar-playing husband Robert Fripp, 74.

Rest in Peace, Janice Long

December 31st, 2021

I was sad to hear of the death of Janice Long at Christmas. I grew up through the 80s listening to her BBC Radio 1 show and loving many of the bands she championed, most notably The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen and Manic Street Preachers.

Janice was the first woman to have her own daily show on Radio 1. A true pioneer!

I also often listened to Janice’s BBC Radio 2 show much later on. She was a true music fan and a great broadcaster who was so good at her job it felt like you were listening to a friend. She will be greatly missed.

Janice interviewed Toyah many times, most memorably in 1983 (Love Is The Law era), 1985 (Minx era), and 2021 (Posh Pop era). Toyah also guested twice on The Janice Long Review Show on Vintage TV in 2012, and was one of the artists Janice chose on her NOW 80’s show Janice Long’s Ladies With Attitude.

Toyah paid tribute to Janice on Boxing Day, saying: “Dear wonderful Janice Long championed women in music. Janice has been in my life my whole career, my deepest sympathy to all her family, friends, listeners and fans. Too young to lose you. Toyah xxx”

There have been many tributes to Janice over the past few days, from her friends, work colleagues and many of the bands she supported via her radio shows over the years.

The Guardian said: “The DJ Janice Long, who has died aged 66 following a short illness, became a pioneer in broadcasting as the first woman to have her own weekday show on BBC Radio 1 and the first to become a regular presenter of Top of the Pops. Unlike some of the prominent DJs with whom she shared the airwaves during the first part of her career in the 1980s, Long was a genuine music fan, credited with giving a helping hand to a number of artists whom she had championed, including Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Primal Scream, Manic Street Preachers, the Teardrop Explodes, Amy Winehouse and the Coral.”

This week’s Sunday Lunch has them taking on The Stooges’ classic “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” with Fripp giving a good punk scowl as he plays the iconic descending riff, and Toyah making good use of a prop bone.
