August 23rd, 2022

Watch Toyah Willcox, Robert Fripp Cover Limp Bizkit’s ‘Nookie’ for ‘Sunday Lunch’

Video is the latest in a series from the King Crimson guitarist and his wife

Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp will, apparently, do it all for the nookie. The pair covered the quintessential 1999 Limp Bizkit song “Nookie” for their popular YouTube cover series “Sunday Lunch.”

In the video, the King Crimson guitarist, wearing a sequined baseball cap, takes on guitar duties while Willcox rocks out on the vocals. As usual, the pair filmed the clip in their kitchen, using a fan to create a dramatic wind machine effect on Willcox’s hair.

The pair, filming in their kitchen, get some visual help from a dramatic wind machine – Continue reading…

Classic Rock/Louder: Wind machines, nipple tape…must be time for Toyah & Robert Fripp’s Sunday Lunch: This week everybody’s favourite wacky couple cover The Smashing Pumpkins’ Bullet With Butterfly Wings – As we’re sure you’re all well aware by now, Sunday Lunch at the Willcox-Fripp household is about much more than mere Yorkshire puddings and roast taters. Week after week, Toyah and Robert deliver highly entertaining, kooky covers of some of rock’s biggest hits, performed for the most part, it seems, as a way of adding some spice to their relationship. If you find yourself questioning whether you should really be watching Toyah flirtatiously dance while rocking nipple tape much to her husband’s delight, don’t worry, you’ve just stumbled upon their Sunday Lunch series, which by the way, probably shouldn’t be played on your work computer – Continue reading…

Guitar.Com: Fripp and Toyah Get Their Grunge On With Cover Of Smashing Pumkins’ Bullet With Butterfly Wings: “Bullet With Butterfly Wings as you’ve never seen or heard it before.” – Robert Fripp and Toyah Wilcox’s Sunday Lunch covers series is back: on the table this week, a take on Smashing Pumpkins’ Bullet With Butterfly Wings. Last week, the pair headed back to the old school punk they covered all across January for a special Valentine’s Day rendition of Too Drunk To Fuck by The Dead Kennedys. Other punk classics they covered included Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones and Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash – Continue reading…

Far Out: Robert Fripp and Toyah release cover of Smashing Pumpkins: King Crimson bandleader Robert Fripp has issued a cover of ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’, featuring wife Toyah Wilcox on lead vocals. The song is a cover of a Smashing Pumpkins tune that was released in the 1990s. The song sits among a series of covers the duo have recorded in their spare time. This recording is notable for Fripp’s casual tone, as the guitarist says “bollocks” as he hits the wrong notes at one juncture in time. The pair have been releasing video renditions of rock numbers since 2021, performing numbers written by The Clash, The Prodigy and Alice Cooper – Continue reading…

Rolling Stone: Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox Interview

Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox on Their Viral Quarantine Videos: ‘We’re in This With You’

King Crimson’s guitarist and his pop-star wife on what inspired them to cover everything from “Enter Sandman” to “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and what everyone got wrong about their ‘Swan Lake’ tutu dance

“My wife is a force of nature and my wife leads the way,” Robert Fripp says of his partner and quarantine-video collaborator Toyah Willcox.

On April 5th, 2020, music fans stuck in their homes and cruising the web for diversions were greeted with one of the most unusual sights in a season filled with them: King Crimson auteur Robert Fripp and his wife, singer and actress Toyah Willcox, both elegantly dressed and dancing to Bill Haley and the Comets’ early rock anthem “Rock Around the Clock.”

Filmed on Willcox’s iPhone in the kitchen of the couple’s home near Birmingham, England, the head-scratching clip launched one of the year’s least likely and most talked-about viral series. Every Sunday since, “Toyah and Robert’s Sunday Lunch” (sometimes called a “Lockdown Lunch”) has presented a new clip of the couple having quick, good-natured fun at home. The ever-upbeat Willcox sings and vamps (while wearing a variety of costumes, from workout suit to cheerleader costume) while a deadpan Fripp accompanies her on electric guitar.

Rolling Stone: 25 Greatest Punk Rock Movies of All Time

August 22nd, 2016

jubilee12cFrom U.K.-to-L.A. scene rockumentaries to riot-grrl portraits and the Ramones’ fictional alma mater, our favorite portrayals of punk on screen

10. ‘Jubilee’ (1978)

It’s been called “the first punk film,” but Derek Jarman’s 1978 feature turns the subculture’s oppositional stance back on itself: It’s like a guerrilla Shakespeare production staged in a mosh pit. While the Sex Pistols sneered at Queen Elizabeth II, Jarman cast his lot with the original Her Majesty E., who travels through time to a dystopian Britain ruled by roving gangs. Appearances by Adam Ant, the Slits and Siouxsie and the Banshees, along with U.S. trans icon Jayne County, ground it in the moment, but Jarman’s suggestion that even the most vocal nihilists would sell out their ideals — if given enough encouragement, naturally — provided a glimpse of the future.
