EG Courier: Toyah To Perform At Trading Boundaries

September 18th, 2014

Promoters say “this is a unique chance to experience Toyah up close and personal”.

Billed as a lively unplugged/storyteller-style gig, it will feature Toyah performing an acoustic set of hit singles such as It’s A Mystery and other classic songs, alongside recollections and anecdotes from her colourful 35-year career.

Classic Pop: Godmothers Of Pop: Toyah

September 18th, 2014

classicpop14dAs previously mentioned, Toyah is interviewed in the latest issue of Classic Pop magazine, in their “Godmothers Of Pop” feature.

From punk rock to Top Of The Pops, cinema and theatre to All Star Mr & Mrs – it’s been a frantically varied 33 years since Toyah’s first hit single It’s A Mystery and the Four From Toyah EP in 1981. We caught up with her at the start of an autumn packed full of live dates…

One of my personal highlights from your back catalogue is the acoustic album from 1994. The piano version of It’s A Mystery was very striking…
I liked the orchestral version as well. Every so often I’m given the chance to do something outside the norm. I’m touring an acoustic show at the moment and it’s going down a storm. It’s lovely that you can see the songwiriting, you can see the song. The song isn’t veiled with noise.

Gloucestershire Echo: Review: Stroud Subscription Rooms

September 8th, 2014

gloucecho14cIt is often said that small is beautiful and Toyah Willcox provided indisputable evidence.

In the court of the Crimson Queen, aka the Stroud Subscription Rooms, the diminutive, one-time punk princess demonstrated why after 35 years she still deservedly draws the crowds.

Opening appropriately with Good Morning, Universe, she cruised triumphantly through her greatest hits, strikingly revamped as a frothy acoustic set.

Instead of a full band, the entire performance was powered by accomplished guitarists Chris Wong from her current outfit The Humans, and Colin Hinds, formerly of China Crisis, thrashing out any number of solid chords and sizzling breaks.
