It’s the final day of October and also of Dreamscape’s Love Is The Law Month. I hope you’ve enjoyed all the LITL related posts over the last 31 days. Of course the Love Is The Law & More Tour is still in full swing, with another three dates still to be played. To finish off here’s a really lovely interview with Toyah from Harty, aired by the BBC in late 1983, plus Toyah and Joel performing ‘The Vow’. Interview ’83: The Janice Long Show

October 10th, 2013

In late November 1983, just after Love Is The Law had been released and just before the start of the ‘Rebel Run’ Tour, Toyah guested on The Janice Long Show on ‘BBC Radio One’. She talked about all manner of topics, including recording the album, her plans for the future and an embryonic idea which is close to what we now recognise as the internet. Listen to the interview by clicking below.

Sixty Minutes: Toyah on Tour (1983)

October 2nd, 2013

A short rare interview with Toyah during the ‘Rebel Run’ UK Tour. This aired on the 5th December 1983 on BBC1’s Sixty Minutes, the replacement news programme for Nationwide. It had only launched in October and went on to be quite short lived as it was “axed” in July 1984. Toyah talks about touring, new single ‘The Vow’ and there’s also some brief soundcheck footage. Smash Hits: 29 September – 12 October 1983

September 29th, 2013

Dreamscape’s Love Is The Law Month doesn’t begin until Tuesday but I thought I’d add this today rather than wait, especially as it went on sale exactly 30 years ago. Toyah: Return Of The Rebel, there were more smaller articles, such as “Personal File” and the like over the next few years but this was Toyah’s final big double-page interview feature for ‘Smash Hits’. LITL Songwords: Time Is Ours

September 17th, 2013

‘Dreamscape’ has always been one of my favourite Toyah songs, hence the title of this website, but listening to the Love Is The Law album over the last year, I think ‘Time Is Ours’ has overtaken it. Thus I thought it deserved a little preferential treatment when doing the songwords – Think of it as a double-pager :)

• I haven’t forgotten about ‘Dreamscape’ – The songwords from last year are here. I was going to redo it to fit the theme of The Complete LITL Lyrics page, though possibly not as ‘Time Is Ours’, above, differs too.

30 Years of Rebel Run(ning)!

September 16th, 2013

Well…..30yrs on, I can still get into original Rebel Run outfit….just!” Toyah tweeted earlier today – View the full photo at Toyah’s Instagram. Watch Toyah perform ‘Rebel Run’ wearing the outfit on ITV’s Hold Tight in 1983. (Photo © Toyah Willcox)

Remember 1983: The Ebony Tower

September 5th, 2013

Around this time, late Summer, 30 years ago in 1983 Toyah was in the Dordogne region of France filming John Fowles’ The Ebony Tower alongside Sir Laurence Olivier, Greta Scacchi and Roger Rees. The drama, made by Granada Television, eventually aired on ITV in December 1984. We can’t look back at Toyah’s 1983 without including one of her most memorable acting roles. View promo shots from the film herehere, here and here. Read an interview with Toyah, published when The Ebony Tower aired, by Outlook magazine. Read Dreamscape’s 2011 DVD review, and view a couple of our fan adverts. (Thanks to Andi)

A few screen caps of Toyah looking utterly amazing when she guested on Russell Harty’s BBC2 show in March 1983. Other guests were Willie Rushton and Janet Street-Porter in a programme looking back at celebrities’ school days. Toyah’s former teacher also made an appearance. View a clip from the programme by clicking on the caps. (Thanks to Andi)

Live 2013: Love Is The Law

May 8th, 2013

Toyah announced info about the upcoming tour in her May blog yesterday: The autumn tour is shaping up and we should be announcing the dates any day now. London, Manchester and Bristol are solid, we are now awaiting confirmation on a few other dates before we announce. We have decided to keep it selective and to main venues as I have a TV series to shoot in the autumn, but there will be enough venues for everyone to reach and to follow us around the country. The tour set will include songs from LOVE IS THE LAW, CRIMSON QUEEN, ANTHEM, CHANGELING and SHEEP FARMING, in that order of priority.

Toyah also mentions the possibility of a tour in 2014: Next year I might tour CRIMSON QUEEN, in it’s own right, especially if I can pin SIMON DARLOW down to record the follow up and to come and do some dates too. CQ is a fantastic album and it has had such a great response in the industry I’d like to give it the time it deserves. But this isn’t my priority just yet.
