Sixty Minutes: Toyah on Tour (1983)

October 2nd, 2013

A short rare interview with Toyah during the ‘Rebel Run’ UK Tour. This aired on the 5th December 1983 on BBC1’s Sixty Minutes, the replacement news programme for Nationwide. It had only launched in October and went on to be quite short lived as it was “axed” in July 1984. Toyah talks about touring, new single ‘The Vow’ and there’s also some brief soundcheck footage. Click below to view the clip at Dreamscape’s You Tube Channel and view larger versions of the screen caps here. (Thanks to Andy for the clip)

You Tubing: It’s Your Funeral (2001)

September 26th, 2013

Been meaning to do so for a number of years, and finally I’ve transferred this from VHS tape to digital. A 30-minute interview with Toyah from the series It’s Your Funeral, hosted by Kaye Adams, which aired on Channel Five in 2001. It’s an interesting interview and, despite the title, not particularly morbid. Click below to watch

• More footage coming in October to Dreamscape’s You Tube Channel – A selection of Love Is The Law clips.

You Tubing with Dreamscape: TISWAS 1981

A short, but fantastic, clip of one of Toyah’s appearances on TISWAS in 1981. Performing “I’m A Misery” with the band and various presenters, and then flanned by the Phantom Flan Flinger. A classic clip. Click on the caps to watch, and visit Dreamscape’s You Tube Channel.

You Tubing: V Graham Norton (2002)

Just uploaded to Dreamscape’s You Tube channel – Toyah guesting on V Graham Norton in 2002. She appeared on the Channel 4 show in June of that year, around the time of the release of the brilliant ‘Little Tears Of Love’ EP, lovingly modelled by Mr Norton. Watch by clicking below.

You Tubing with Dreamscape

May 21st, 2013

Just uploaded half a dozen short clips of Toyah from various TV shows, mostly from the very early 2000s: FBI, Through The Sunroof, You Dancin? I’m Askin!, Scotland Today… and more. These include a very brief clip of Toyah in rehearsals for Picasso’s Women at the Edinburgh Festival in 2000 and Issey Miyake speaking about the outfit Toyah wore on the cover of her single ‘Don’t Fall in Love’. View these at Dreamscape’s You Tube channel.

Remember 1983/Happy Birthday: Russell Harty Show

May 18th, 2013

A few screen caps of Toyah looking utterly amazing when she guested on Russell Harty’s BBC2 show in March 1983. Other guests were Willie Rushton and Janet Street-Porter in a programme looking back at celebrities’ school days. Toyah’s former teacher also made an appearance. View a clip from the programme by clicking on the caps. (Thanks to Andi)

Remember 1983: ‘The Saturday Show’ Clip

Remember 1983: Get Set: Trafford Tanzi

April 28th, 2013

Exactly 30 years ago Toyah was starring in Claire Luckham’s Trafford Tanzi at the Mermaid Theatre, London. BBC1’s Get Set aired a great interview on the Tanzi set, with Toyah, looking quite amazing, putting Peter Powell in his place! And here it is.

Happy 30th Birthday ‘BBC Breakfast (Time)’

January 17th, 2013

BBC Breakfast Time went on air 30 years ago this morning. The original programme logo and memorable theme tune still remind me of getting ready for school.

Toyah has guested on the programme numerous times over the years: In 1983, talking about ‘Love Is The Law’ and The Ebony Tower; in 1985, around ‘Minx’ time, talking about a tour that didn’t happen (see below); in 1987, talking about ‘Desire’ and Cabaret; in 2007, talking about panto in Reading and in 2008, talking about Vampires Rock.

BBC Breakfast is celebrating 30 years of broadcasting with a trip down memory lane

Considered a “huge risk” when it launched on 17 January 1983, Breakfast Time was the UK’s first regular national breakfast show. Famous for its magazine-style approach, it combined news and lighter features. The 30th anniversary show will feature appearances from some of the original team.

Introduced two weeks before rival broadcaster ITV’s TV-am with David Frost, Breakfast Time hoped to lure audiences away from radio with a combination of news, travel information and lifestyle segments. Although breakfast TV had been the staple diet in the US for three decades, the British public was wary of the innovation in 1983.

Classic Toyah on TV: Get Set For Summer (1982)

August 12th, 2012

This has always been one of my favourite Toyah TV appearances, especially as there is very little footage from 1982 of live performances of songs from ‘The Changeling’: It’s BBC1’s Get Set For Summer from July 1982. The band perform ‘Castaways’, ‘Street Creature’ and ‘Brave New World’ and Toyah is also interviewed by Peter Powell. View all at Dreamscape’s You Tube playlist. (Thanks to Andi)

Birthday 2012: Look! Hear!: Full Edition

May 18th, 2012

Toyah co-presented Look! Hear! for ‘BBC Midlands’ for three series between 1979 and 1981. The programme covered music and the arts in The Midlands and was made at BBC Pebble Mill studios. This programme, from the 1981 series, includes two live performances from Duran Duran. Click below to watch the full edition (in six parts). (Thanks to Andi)

Birthday 2012: Dear Heart: Full Edition

May 18th, 2012

Toyah appeared in, what was billed as a “younger version of Not The Nine O’Clock News“, Dear Heart in Spring 1982. There was only one series, which aired on BBC2. The best known of the numerous characters Toyah played was probably “Super Advice Person”, who appeared every week. Click below to view a full edition (in five parts). (Thanks to Andi)

Dreamscape You Tube: Brave New World Interview (1982)

April 14th, 2012

This rare television interview is from that amazing Summer of 1982, the fantastic era of ‘The Changeling’. I’m not sure what the programme was called (possibly… It’ll Be A Laugh, Let’s Get The Office Junior To Do The Interviews This Week… just kidding, we love him really!). Toyah looks incredible here (how absolutely vibrant did Toyah look throughout 1982?) and talks ‘Brave New World’, making the video, ‘The Changeling’ tour dates and more.
