Times & Star: Toyah Chills At Club Ice

June 1st, 2012

Welcome to June! It begins with a new Toyah interview, published yesterday, by the ‘Times & Star’.

Toyah Willcox backstage cuts quite a different figure from the rebellious punk musician of the 1980s.

Relaxing before her performance at Workington’s Decades Festival, she is down-to-earth and happy to chat.

“Everyone here is chilled out in a way I am not used to,” she says, “If you work in London everyone is wound up and tense. Earlier a man asked for my picture and held my bum. I thought ‘this is like a different world’.

“It’s a happy atmosphere. It’s nice to see people relaxing. I live in Worcester and people there don’t seem very relaxed. That says something about the quality of life here.”

Toyah Live 2012: May Gigs

May 9th, 2012

The three remaining Saturdays, and final Sunday, of May see Toyah playing three festivals and a live PA in various parts of the country.

This Saturday is Let’s Rock The Moor 2012, an Eighties festival in Cookham, Berkshire. Other bands include Heaven 17, China Crisis and Nick Heyward. This is a full band gig.

On Saturday 19th May Toyah appears at The Stroke Association’s 20th Anniversary Ball in County Durham. The information on this that was previously available at TSA’s website has been removed. There was a tweet yesterday advising that only one table was still available, so this possibly means the fundraiser has now sold out.

On Saturday 26th May Toyah plays another festival. Decades in Workington, Cumbria. This is another PA and Toyah will play at Club Ice, headlining the Saturday night of the event.

There’s another full band gig the following night: The ‘Here and Now’ Weekender at Minehead. Toyah is headlining the final night, Sunday 27th May. Visit the official Gigs page at toyahwillcox.com for more details on all these dates and many others.

A variety of publications, including the ‘Times & Star’, report on Toyah headlining the Workington ‘Decades’ Festival.

80s PUNK STAR TOYAH WILLCOX WILL HEADLINE WORKINGTON FESTIVAL

Singing star Toyah Wilcox will headline Workington’s Decades town centre music festival later this year.

The 1980s self-styled punk princess, best known for chart hit It’s A Mystery, will perform at the event between May 25 and 27.

Toyah’s career spans 30 years and she has had 13 top 40 singles, recorded 20 albums, presented TV programmes and appeared on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity . . . Get Me Out Of Here! She recently starred in the West End rock show Vampires Rock.

The Decades festival will be based around 12 pubs and clubs on the town centre “circuit” and will celebrate music from the 1960s to the 1990s. Set up by Paul McGee, landlord of the Red House, and run by Maryport Festivals Limited, it promises a weekend of musical nostalgia.
