Strictly’s Toyah Willcox ‘wanted to look like Carol Vorderman’ in true reason for face lift
Strictly Come Dancing contestant Toyah Willcox previously said Carol Vorderman had ‘supernatural beauty’ as she documented her face lift surgery in her book.
Strictly Come Dancing contestant Toyah Willcox has been openly honest about her cosmetic surgery journey to give her a more youthful look – even writing a book about it. The 66-year-old singer cadidly opened up in a “diary” as she went under the knife to give herself a confidence boost.
After a few years of experimenting with Botox and dieting, she decided to take the plunge and go under the knife for a face lift. Sharing all the nitty gritty details about her ordeal in 2005 Toyah wrote a book, Diary of a Face Lift, documenting each step of the way including how the decision came about and what the recovery is really like.
In her book Toyah recalled taking part in ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! She was in the Australian jungle for 12 days, but it was what happened afterwards that had a profound impact on her life.

Cherry Red reach the final studio album from Toyah this Autumn, with the release/reissue of Love Is The Law. A wonderful album which features Toyah’s vocals at their most soaring and glorious thus far in her career at the time.

Toyah hosting The Personality Test, the 30-minute radio quiz that’s, essentially, all about her, airs again later this month on BBC Radio 4 Extra.
The 30 minute radio show was originally broadcast in 2007, on BBC Radio Four, with guests including Sue Perkins and Robin Ince. It will be available at BBC Sounds post-broadcast.

Toyah Willcox is the fourth celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The multi-award-winning entertainment show, produced by BBC Studios, will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its new series this Autumn. As Strictly celebrates two spectacular decades of dance, this series promises to be extra special with even more glitz, glamour and unforgettable performances.
Toyah Willcox is a singer and actress.
Toyah Willcox has been performing across stage and screen for over 50 years. She is an award-winning rock legend with hit singles like It’s A Mystery, I Want to Be Free and Brave New World and played at this year’s Glastonbury Festival with her husband, Robert Fripp. She has amassed thirteen top 40 singles, recorded twenty-five albums, written two books, appeared in over forty stage plays, acted in over twenty feature films and presented many television programmes. In 2018 Paul McCartney awarded Toyah a Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts Companionship for Outstanding Achievement in music, drama, performance and media.

Toyah Willcox confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing 2024 line-up
The news was announced on Vernon Kay’s BBC Radio 2 show.
Toyah Willcox has been confirmed to be joining the Strictly Come Dancing 2024 line-up.
Willcox was the fourth contestant to be announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2024, following news that opera singer Wynne Evans, comedian Chris McCausland and JLS singer JB Gill would be competing in this year’s edition.
She rose to the fame as the frontwoman of new wave band Toyah, where her most popular singles included It’s a Mystery, Thunder in the Mountains and I Want to Be Free.
Willcox has performed as a solo artist since her 1985 album Minx, with her latest release being 2021’s Posh Pop, which was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic and reached number one on the UK’s Independent Albums Chart.
After Toyah and Wynne were announced on Vernon Kay’s BBC Radio 2 show this morning, Dr Punam Krishnan was also revealed to be joining the line-up, making the TV doctor the fifth celebrity to be confirmed.

The latest star to join the 2024 ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ line-up is ’80s pop icon Toyah Willcox.
Having enjoyed a decades-spanning career, during which she’s racked up 13 UK Top 40 hits and this year played at Glastonbury with her husband Robert Fripp, the singer-songwriter joins this year’s cohort of celebrities competing on the BBC One show.
“I’m used to performing for big crowds but this is completely fresh for me, how I will do, it’s a mystery… I just want to get cracking and learn some dance routines now,” she said.
Her participation was announced on Vernon Kay’s BBC Radio 2 morning show on Tuesday (August 6), with classical singer and face of the Go Compare ads Wynne Evans, and TV Dr Punam Krishan, also confirmed.

Two music legends are coming to Warrington’s Parr Hall this month. And you could be there to watch.
Iconic performers and husband and wife team Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp found a whole new audience together when the short videos they recorded during lockdown started to go viral.
Toyah and Robert’s quirky virtual ‘Sunday Lunch’ performances became a runaway success during the pandemic where they covered songs and put their own twist on classics by the likes of David Bowie, Nirvana and Metallica.
Now the couple are bursting out of the kitchen this summer to reconnect with fans all over the UK, including a date at Parr Hall in August. And it could be extra exciting with it confirmed this week that Toyah will be in this year’s Strictly which is likely to start in September.
