Toyah At Home: Episode #5

Brave New World was song of the week on the fifth episode of Toyah At Home, which aired at Toyah’s official You Tube channel yesterday.

Toyah performed a live version of the iconic 1982 single and also discussed the song and the album it is included on, The Changeling.

There was a cameo appearance from Robert at the beginning of the episode. Toyah also talked about what her 1980 self would ask her today; anything she would do differently in her early career; an alternative career; her bucket list; writing new songs; Quadrophenia and what Monkey would have been doing 40 years later; the (non Toyah) song that inspired passion in her; the iconic artwork, make-up and photo shoots; and the TV play Little Girls Don’t.

Make More Noise! 4CD Bookpack: Bird In Flight

Toyah’s legendary 1980 single, Bird in Flight, is included on the new Make More Noise! 4CD compilation.

The set is sub-titled Women In Independent Music UK 1977 – 1987 and retails as a Bookpack. It is released on 25th September 2020.

• 4CD / 90 track set exploring the work of female artists in the decade following the punk explosion.

Saffron Walden Reporter: Drive-In Concert Series Cancelled

A drive-in concert series set to open in Newmarket next month has been cancelled by organisers.

Live Nation Entertainment was due to promote a programme of live concerts and theatre shows at Newmarket Racecourse. However, the Utilita Live From the Drive-In series has now been cancelled by organisers over concerns of localised lockdowns.

The drive-in shows were due to take place at 12 venues across the country, including Liverpool, Bolton, Bristol, Milton Keynes and Lincoln. Northaw in Hertfordshire was the event’s ‘London’ venue, with Birmingham, Cheltenham, Edinburgh, Leeds and Teesside also on the tour.

An update from Rewind Festival regarding next month’s Live From the Drive In dates.

The Live From The Drive In concert series will no longer proceed as planned this summer.

We received huge support from artists, the live music production contractors, our headline sponsor Utilita along with our other partners, and of course you, the fans.

However the latest developments regarding localised lockdowns mean it has become impossible for us to continue with the series with any confidence.

We thank everyone for their support and eagerly await a time when we can watch live music together again.

Full refunds will be issued directly to all ticket holders within the next 7 days.

Echo Beach was song of the week on the fourth episode of Toyah At Home, which aired at Toyah’s official You Tube channel yesterday.

Toyah and the band performed the 1987 single and Toyah discussed the song and the album it is included on, Desire.

Toyah also talked about the acting roles she rejected and others she has screen-tested for; the film she wished she had starred in; who would play her in a drama of her life; all things Sunday All Over The World; visiting America in 1985; duetting with other singers; Slave To The Rhythm; and the song that is closest to her heart.

Free-to-view Woo Fest streams in £13,000 for hospice

An award-winning county music festival which switched to an online format because of social distancing measures has been hailed a huge success after it raised more than £13,000 for a Worcestershire-based hospice.

Woo Fest was streamed live to homes and gardens around Worcestershire and beyond on Saturday (July 4) and featured a mix of live and pre-recorded sets from big-name performers including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Grant Nicholas, from Feeder, and Toyah Willcox as well as local acts.

Rewind Festival 2020: Tickets Pre-Sale

The Hunts Post: Rewind Festival Date At Newmarket

Rewind Festival set for drive-in concert date at Newmarket Racecourse

Entertainment company Live Nation presents Utilita Live From the Drive-In at Newmarket Racecourse this summer.

Rewind Festival will come to The July Course on Saturday, August 29.

The live line-up will feature Sheffield synth-pop stars Heaven 17, singer Toyah and Altered Images. The drive-in concert will be hosted by The Doctor.

Fronted by singer Glenn Gregory, Heaven 17 are best known for number two hit Temptation from the album The Luxury Gap. The group’s other hits include Come Live With Me, Crushed By The Wheels of Industry and Sunset Now.

Toyah had top 10 hits in the 80s with singles It’s A Mystery, Thunder In The Mountains and I Want To Be Free.

Scottish group Altered Images are fronted by Clare Grogan, who also appeared in the hit film Gregory’s Girl. Their hits include Happy Birthday, I Could Be Happy and Don’t Talk To Me About Love.

Gig-goers attending the Rewind show will have a designated area for their car that includes space for everyone to get out and have a dance.

As well as Newmarket, Rewind Festival will also visit Bolton and Colesdale Farm in Northaw, Hertfordshire, which is described as Utilita Live From the Drive-In’s London venue. Tickets for Rewind go on general sale on Friday, July 10.
