Phil Daniels and Toyah Willcox will return for the sequel

A sequel to iconic British movie Quadrophenia is being made, 37 years after the original was released.

The sequel to the cult film, which was released in 1979, is expected to see the return of original cast members Phil Daniels and singer Toyah Willcox – and will shoot this summer.

Daily Mail: Cast of Quadrophenia Reunite For A New Film

May 28th, 2016

The modern mods: Cast of Quadrophenia reunite for a NEW film 37 years on that will pick up where the classic original left off, with Jimmy riding his scooter off a cliff

• Quadrophenia, made in 1979, was based on real events in Brighton in 1964
• Phil Daniels played Jimmy, a mod, caught up in tribal violence with rockers
• The film ends with Jimmy apparently riding a Vespa off a clifftop
• But Peter Meadows’ book To Be Someone picks up the action later
• Jimmy has survived and the novel follows him through to the 1990s
• Toyah Willcox says her character, Monkey, has become a swinging cougar

Phil Daniels, Toyah Willcox and several other actors who appeared in the cult film Quadrophenia are due to reprise their roles in a sequel 37 years later, based on the book To Be Someone. Daniels, now 57, Willcox, 58, and two of the other members of the original cast, Mark Wingett, 55, and Trevor Laird, 58, are said to be keen to take part in the film, which will be directed by Ray Burdis, who directed gangster film The Wee Man.

quad16bQuadrophenia star Toyah Willcox says her character has become a ‘sexual predator’

The 80s singer said: “The natural journey for my character, nearly 40 years on, has seen her become a sexual predator, working in the sex industry”

A sequel to the iconic British mod movie Quadrophenia is being made – 37 years after the original.

80s popstar Toyah will revisit her role as Monkey – who has grown into a swinging cougar. She said: “Quadrophenia was really zeitgeist and it’s never really gone away, as every new generation connects with it.

“No-one expected that to happen – it grabbed teenage angst by the balls and never let go. None of us realised the impact it would have at the time – we were all just desperate to out do each other. The natural journey for my character, nearly 40 years on, has seen her become a sexual predator, working in the sex industry as a madam. She’s married to one of the other main characters and they’re swingers.”

Quadrophenia Immersive Experience: Q&A London 11th Feb 2016

February 14th, 2016

Footage from Thursday’s Quadrophenia: The Immersive Experience has been uploaded to You Tube: Director Franc Roddam and cast members from ‘Quadrophenia’ including Phil Daniels and Toyah Willcox discuss the film after a special screening at the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith in London on Thursday 11th Feb 2016.

Express: Toyah Willcox Talks Quadrophenia

February 13th, 2016

express16aNearly 40 years since the making of the era defining British film Quadrophenia one of its stars says plans are being put in place for a follow-up.

Speaking after a special presentation of the 1979 film, which documents the Mods and Rockers descent on Brighton on a 1960s Bank Holiday weekend, Toyah Willcox, 57, tells us at London’s Eventim Apollo: “We’re talking about making a film now, getting everyone back together. I’d love it and I think Sting would be up for it. I’ve enjoyed watching it again after all those years”.

As well as Toyah, who plays Monkey in the movie, and Sting, the likes of Ray Winstone, Leslie Ash and Phil Daniels, who most recently played Kevin Wicks in Eastenders, made up the star-studded cast, while The Who guitarist Pete Townsend was one of the writers. Perhaps they could replace Lambrettas with mobility scooters this time around?

Modculture: Quadrophenia: A Way Of Life

February 7th, 2016

quaditmo14aOut Now: Quadrophenia – A Way Of Life by Simon Wells for Kindle with bonus downloads

What does a couple of quid get you these days? Not a lot. But it does get you Quadrophenia – A Way Of Life by Simon Wells for the Amazon Kindle, which also comes with a few bonus extras.

It’s the same book we flagged up back in May 2014, which is when the print version landed. That is still available if you prefer print. But if you don’t and have a Kindle, you can opt for this version.

It’s just the same in terms of the book, a look at the making of the cult mod movie and its subsequent influence on popular culture. There are interviews with principal cast members, director Franc Roddam, scriptwriter Martin Stellman and other involved in the creation of the film, coming together as a good overview of the movie and the background to it.

It doesn’t say so on the listing, but according to author Simon Wells, the e-book contains a link to download 49 continuity Polaroids from the making of the film. That’s got to be worth the modest price tag alone. £2.10 is that price and the Kindle book is available now.
