Toyah Live 2014?: It looks like there will be further live Toyah dates to look forward to very early next year. At least two new gigs have recently shown up in news feeds: Holmfirth Picturedome on Friday 21st February and Queens Hall, Nuneaton on Saturday 22nd February. Toyah has already said that the Love Is The Law & More Tour will the last “anniversary” dates for a while so it’s a mystery (doh) what these could be for!!

It was a busy Bank Holiday weekend for Toyah, with two live appearances: On Saturday she played a full band gig at the Upton Music Festival in Worcestershire, and on Sunday a PA at Manchester Pride. Watch Toyah perform Echo Beach at Upton and It’s A Mystery at Pride. Doctor Who: BBC Worldwide have announced details of Doctor Who: The Complete Seventh Series DVD set in Regions 2 and 1. Both include the BBC America documentary The Science Of Doctor Who, one of a series of four programmes Toyah contributed to in July and August of last year – Full info on the release at Doctor Who News – Read here…

Lorca & The Outlaws/Starship

While on the subject of ‘Lion of Symmetry’ and Lorca & The Outlaws (see Newsy Bits below) – The full film is available to watch at You Tube, under its other name, Starship. Made in 1984, Toyah appears briefly in the film, on a holographic video jukebox in the “Miram Bar”, performing ‘Lion Of Symmetry’, a collaboration with Tony Banks, included on his ‘Soundtracks’ album from 1985. Tomorrow Calling: The 1993 short film Toyah starred in, Tomorrow Calling, played at the ‘Love Architecture Festival’ in Marget-On-Sea last Sunday: A short film adaptation of William Gibson’s The Gernsback Continuum. Bill is shooting architectural photographs of ‘futuristic’ buildings of the 1930s for a coffee table book, but as he frames up a deco bingo hall, a vast airship looms overhead… starring Colin Salmon, Don Henderson and Toyah Wilcox. 12 minutes duration, certificate 15.

It’s Love Is The Law Day!

Welcome to 03.06.2013, or as we are unofficially calling it “Love Is The Law Day”. Later today the live Toyah dates for this Autumn, marking the 30th anniversary of the ‘Love Is The Law’ album and ‘Rebel Run’ Tour, will be announced. It’s all very exciting. In anticipation of this I’ve put together a montage of some of the LITL imagery I’ve created over the last year, to the sound of the wonderful title song. Happy “Love Is The Law Day” to you all!

These include a very brief clip of Toyah in rehearsals for Picasso’s Women at the Edinburgh Festival in 2000 and Issey Miyake speaking about the outfit Toyah wore on the cover of her single ‘Don’t Fall in Love’. • The Changeling: Alison Moyet mentions Toyah in an interview with ‘Gay Times’ (June 2013 issue) when talking about considering names for her new album: Moyet revealed other considered titles: “Changeling” (“but Toyah had an album called Changeling”).

David Bowie: Five Years: An intimate portrait of five key years in David Bowie’s career: I’m not sure if he directly contributes to this new documentary but Robert Fripp is mentioned during it. Airing on Saturday 25th May on BBC2. Time tbc, more info here.

Artrocker: Focus Wales 2013: Saturday 27th April, Wrexham County Borough Museum – Golden Fable is Rebecca Palin and Tim McIver, a synth/acoustic duo who produce a magical, hypnotic sort of pop. Palin is all glimmer suit and headdress something akin to Toyah Willcox in her prime.

Exactly 30 years ago Toyah was starring in Claire Luckham’s Trafford Tanzi at the Mermaid Theatre, London. BBC1’s Get Set aired a great interview on the Tanzi set, with Toyah, looking quite amazing, putting Peter Powell in his place! And here it is.
