Strange Tales: Newsy Bits

humans14oStrange Charts: The Humans’ third album, Strange Tales, placed well in various charts upon its release almost a fortnight ago. It charted in the Top 30 of Amazon’s Rock Chart and also entered iTunes Rock chart at No. 65 on just one day of sales.

Strange Booklet: A digital booklet to accompany Strange Tales was made available at toyahwillcox.com. Usually these are only included with albums bought via iTunes – Get yours here…

Strange Photos: The digital booklet includes exclusive photos (from the recording sessions for the album), lyrics to all seven songs and production credits.

Strange Tell Tales: Six tracks (aside from the previously previewed Get In Your Car) were exclusively previewed across a number of websites including Sugar Rush: The Humans Fan Site, This Is Not Retro, Dreamscape, Discipline Global Mobile and toyahwillcox.com. shits14aSmash Hits Archive: The latest issue of ‘Smash Hits’, February 16 – 29 1984, has recently been uploaded to the fantastic Like Punk Never Happened: Smash Hits Archive, 30 years to the day it was originally published. There’s just a tiny news piece, in “Bitz”, on Toyah but worth linking to as this was one of very few mentions for Toyah in the magazine throughout 1984, and it’s also significant as it’s about the first ever Toyah compilation – Visit here…

Queer Pagan Punk: BFI Derek Jarman retrospective: As mentioned yesterday, Toyah guested at this event last night. She tweeted: “fabulous night at @BFI Southbank Jarman retrospective. Loved it. The audience really liked The Tempest“.

My Vintage: It’s a great upcoming weekend for Toyah fans, not only is she guesting on Sounds Of The 80s (see below) but Sunday sees the premiere of the My Vintage, Toyah and Robert special, which I know a lot of people are looking forward to seeing.

Sounds Of The 80s: BBC Radio 2: Toyah guests on this show on Saturday night. Toyah tweeted on Tuesday: “I’m Sara cox’s special guest on this sat’s sounds of the 80s @BBCRadio2 10pm“. Listen live at the Radio 2 website or catch up at BBC iPlayer post-broadcast.

Live 2014: Toyah played her first live date of the year on Sunday. A PA at the Ultimate 80s show in Skegness, with a host of other 80s bands. She tweeted: “In skeggy. Just met Annabelle from Bow Wow Wow 4 1st time! Musical Youth think im a Toyah Impersonator. BOYS! Lol“.

Busy Toyah!: This “newsy bits” update wouldn’t have been possible without Twitter. Our penultimate post is this tweet from Toyah on how busy she is: “Crazy 2 weeks. Feel like I’m on a bob sleigh run with no shoes on! Acoustic rehearsal\press\tv\scripts\talks….Aaaahhhhhhhhhh“.

Three Sides Of The Coin: Filming on the new Electric Flix short film Three Sides Of The Coin was completed in early November, a psychological horror from writer-director Tom Lawes, featuring Toyah Wilcox and Jo Woodcock. Now in post-production, Jo Woodcock recently came to the sound studio situated downstairs at The Electric to record the voiceover for the film (pictured), with just the sound mix and score now to be completed. The film will be hitting the festival circuit in early 2014 and will screen at the Shock & Gore 2014 festival here at the Electric in July – Visit Electric Cinema’s website…
