There is now a feature on The Humans at The Official Toyah website, and Toyah’s Official MySpace was updated yesterday with bumper Easter News. Lots of interesting tidbits, including news on a forthcoming Toyah documentary (whether this is the aforementioned Psychic Therapy or another docu I’m not sure) on The Biography Channel, aka bio, and also that Toyah will appear in Series Two of Ashes to Ashes, albeit in poster form. We are pleased to announce details of the long awaited album release by the band project The Humans – Toyah, Bill Rieflin & Chris Wong. The album, “We Are The Humans” is launched on 1 May in a very special concert in Tartu, Estonia which celebrates the anniversary of Estonia’s independence. The concert will see The Humans perform a live set of their material to an audience which includes the President of Estonia and the Minister for Justice. Musician Robert Fripp will support the band with a solo live set and also perform as a special guest in the live set by The Humans.

Recorded in Seattle, USA and produced by Bill Rieflin, the 10-song album was mixed by Don Gunn & Rieflin in Seattle, USA and mastered by Simon Heyworth (Tubular Bells, Brian Eno) in Devon, UK.

A strictly limited Estonian edition of the album will be available in Estonia and online exclusively through RememberTheEighties.com from May 2009. Details of a worldwide digital release through iTunes will be announced soon.

The full version of ‘We Are The Humans’ (2009 Full Song) has just been added to The Humans MySpace. A clip of another new song, ‘Icarus’, has also been added.

The clip of ‘Icarus’ is also at The Official Toyah MySpace, along with other clips from The Humans and songs from Toyah’s last two albums ‘Velvet Lined Shell’ and ‘In The Court Of The Crimson Queen’.

The Humans MySpace has been updated with samples of new songs; ‘Labyrinth’, ‘Twisted Soul’ (previously ‘This Is Your Life’), ‘Demigod’, and ‘Quicksilver’, plus a new version of ‘We Are The Humans’.

Toyah’s Official MySpace now also has ‘Quicksilver’ and ‘Demigod’ on its player.

The story behind this is the Estonian Embassy asked myself, the hubby, and Bill Reiflin to do a concert in Estonia around November, of course Robert said No…why say YES when a word like NO is so easy to say. BUT Bill and I said YES! And thus we became THE HUMANS.”

That’s what Toyah said about The Humans in her May 2007 Webletter/Blog.

Three samples of songs; ‘We Are The Humans’, ‘This Belongs To You’ and ‘This Is Your Life’ were made available at The Humans MySpace when it launched in June 2007.

Exclusive photos of Toyah and Bill Rieflin were also added to MySpace and later further images included Chris Wong, who became The Humans’ third member.

In September 2007 a Dean Stockings video was produced for the song ‘We Are The Humans’, featuring footage of the band rehearsing. The album, ‘We Are The Humans’, was recorded in Seattle, USA.

So far The Humans have played three live gigs; 25th October, Tallin, 26th October, Tartu, and 27th October, Viljandi. All in 2007 and all in Estonia. A fourth concert, the ‘We Are The Humans’ album launch, takes place on 1st May, once again in Estonia.

This concert is special for a number of reasons; it’s the launch of a much-anticipated album, Robert Fripp will be supporting The Humans, as well as guesting in their set, the gig will be recorded for a possible live release, and the President of Estonia will be in attendance as part of the Anniversary of Estonia Independence.

THE HUMANS launch their new album “We Are The Humans” at Tartufest, Estonia on Friday 1 May.

The Humans – Toyah Willcox, Bill Rieflin & Chris Wong – will perform in front of the President of Estonia and the Minister of Justice by their request, with ROBERT FRIPP supporting and also guesting in the The Humans set. The concert will be recorded for a possible live release. The Humans album, “We Are The Humans” will be released in May.

Great news in Toyah’s March blog. The Humans album is being mastered this week (by Simon Hayworth), and it seems it will be “ready” by the end of May.

Toyah updates us with a plethora of news about The Humans in her November Blog. The band guested on the Estonian equivalent of GMTV on Wednesday 24th October, all three of the Estonia gigs sold out, they were filmed so there should be a DVD available at some point. Numerous overseas websites are reporting on The Humans’ forthcoming gigs, taking place in Estonia next Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

THE HUMANS live show is song based but the songs are deconstructed down to the bones of raw experience exposing human nature and irony. Comparisons are always misleading but if The White Stripes met with the vocal adventures of Lou Reed, Kate Bush, Gabriel and Beefheart then you might get a flavour of things to come…

Toyah Willcox began her public life as a stage and television actress, but it is her musical activities that brought about her first real fame. In 1978 she founded the band Toyah. Her singing career took off with hits such as “I Want To Be Free” and “It’s A Mystery”. In 1983, she was voted Best Female Singer at the British Rock and Pop Awards and in 1986 she married avant-garde musician, Robert Fripp.

William “Bill” Rieflin is a contemporary musician and is currently drumming for R.E.M.. In the past he has worked with Ministry, the Revolting Cocks, KMFDM, Pigface, Swans, Chris Cornell, Nine Inch Nails and many others. He is one of the founders of the independent music label First World Music.

Chris Wong is a professional guitarist, bass guitarist, arranger, orchestrator, composer, and musical director. He has worked with artists such as Phil Watts, Mark Rattray, Rox Clayton Scott, and many others. Currently he is Toyah Willcox’s musical director and guitarist.

The most unusual concerts of Jazzkaar’s Autumn Jazz bring together rock musicians from the USA, UK and Germany – Toyah Willcox, Bill Rieflin and Chris Wong as The Humans and Pat Mastelotto and Markus Reuter as Tuner.

Three song previews can be heard in the MySpace player on The Humans page.  The songs are ‘We Are The Humans’, ‘This belongs To You’ and ‘This Is Your Life’.

It seems likely these tracks, in full, will be available to download at some point soon, and that an album of material will be released.
