We recently posted about Zooberon, who are promoting new, up-and-coming and unsigned bands and singers in Brighton. Zooberon is run by a long time Toyah fan and the name is a direct tribute to Toyah and her live music career.
There’s now another Toyah link. Zooberon have an amazing new band playing at their music night this Friday at The Seven Stars in Brighton. The gig is headlined by Loose Lips, is free entry and begins at 8pm. Not to be missed if you are in or around Brighton.
The Toyah link? Scarlett Rae & The Cherry Red’s drummer is none other than Chris Wong, Toyah’s guitarist for the best part of the last decade, and a member of The Humans.

A Toyah fan and supporter of many years is promoting unsigned bands with gigs in Brighton, and also paying tribute to Toyah’s impressive 35 year live career with the name of the nights.
Calling them The Live Music Zooberon and Zooberon Calling!, fans of Toyah and IEYA will no doubt identify the link immediately.
Numerous unsigned bands and up-and-coming singer/songwriters are already gaining followings thanks to Zooberon and the music nights are quickly becoming the place to check out great new music in and around Brighton.
The artist Toyah continually cites as her greatest influence, including in a radio interview which aired just yesterday, David Bowie is the subject of an amazing exhibition, David Bowie Is, currently running at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Jelly, the band fronted by former Toyah drummer Stevie Bray, have just launched their new website.
There’s a band bio, pix, store, videos, tracks and dates. The band have a number of live dates coming up in the next couple of months.

Two of Toyah’s contemporaries are currently touring the UK; Hazel O’Connor and Lene Lovich, and this is the latter’s first tour here with a full band for around 20 years.
Lene is playing UK dates until May, with the first taking place in Leicester last weekend, and is also included in the Rebellion Festival line-up in August. There are also other European dates.
Hazel is on the road with the Breaking Glass Barefoot Tour, as well as a couple of other non-tour dates, through until June. Hazel will also be playing the Rebellion Festival.
‘Breaking Glass Barefoot’ is also the name of Hazel’s new autobiography, and Toyah receives a mention in the book.
• Visit the Official Lene Lovich website and the Official Hazel O’Connor website for more info on the tours. (Thanks to Stephen Bennett Troake)
