BBC R4 Ramblings: Guest Presenter Toyah

September 25th, 2013

bbcr4ramblingsgToyah has recorded an episode of BBC Radio 4’s Ramblings as a Guest Presenter. The programme, usually presented by Clare Balding, will air on the station on Thursday 17th October.

Toyah was a guest on Ramblings earlier this year when Clare interviewed her at Croome Park in Worcestershire. The programme is still available to listen to at BBC iPlayer. It’s also downloadable as a podcast at iTunes. That edition is also included in Ramblings – Clare’s top 30, pretty special as there have been 25 series of the programme.

Toyah on the Radio: BBC Radio 4 ‘Ramblings’

January 31st, 2013

Toyah will guest on a future edition of the long-running BBC Radio 4 series Ramblings. The programme in which, the fantastic (yes I’m a fan ;)), Clare Balding joins notable and interesting people on a walk through the countryside.

Earlier today Clare tweeted: “Today I am walking with Toyah Wilcox for Ramblings. She has a bad ankle so it may be more of a shuffle“. Someone then replied telling her that “Wilcox” was “Willcox”, and there then followed a series of tweets which, if Twitter had existed, could have been posted anytime between 1987 and now: It’s a Mystery“, “turning suburbia upside down“, “Mum deodorant“… Such fun! Clare’s tweet was also posted by Celeb Tweets (Not being a follower of Twitterers, I have to admit this is where I first spotted it).

Series 23 of Ramblings begins on BBC Radio 4 next Thursday (7th February) at 3pm. More details on when Toyah will guest when the information becomes available.

UPDATE: Toyah has also tweeted about Ramblings (including this great photo of herself and Clare): “Recording radio 4 Ramblings with claire balding, I’m very slow, still limping“. View the original photo here. (Photo © Toyah Willcox)

Woman’s Hour: 2012 Musical Highlights

January 3rd, 2013

The New Year’s Day edition of BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour was a look back at the last 12 months of the show, including Toyah’s guest appearance from January 2012 when she discussed punk.

Toyah appears at approximately 19-minutes into the programme, though Tori Amos and Sinead O’Connor feature earlier so the entire hour is worth listening to.

The programme is available at BBC iPlayer until Tuesday. (Thanks to Zoe Evans)

Toyah on the Radio: Neil Tennant’s Smash Hits Christmas

December 9th, 2012

Toyah is guesting in a BBC Radio 4 special on Smash Hits this Christmas, hosted by Neil Tennant.

Neil Tennant’s Smash Hits Christmas: BBC Radio 4: Thursday 20th December: 11.30am
Neil Tennant was a journalist on music’s most poptastic magazine before he was a Pet Shop Boy. Here, with colleagues and stars, he recalls the early 80s golden age of Smash Hits.

We hear from founder and legendary magazine-maker Nick Logan, from editors David Hepworth and Mark Ellen, writers Miranda Sawyer and Sylvia Patterson and from regular Smash Hits cover girl, Toyah.

We also sample a rare recording from the 1982 Christmas Flexidisc (a message from the stars) and what’s probably Neil Tennant’s first ever recording.
