Acoustic, Up Close & Personal with Toyah at Enginuity Friday evening 2nd October
Household name, pop icon, TV presenter and actress Toyah is coming to the Engine Shop at Enginuity in Coalbrookdale on Friday evening, 2nd October. ‘Acoustic, Up Close & Personal with Toyah’ is a wonderful chance to experience the 1980s pop superstar up close and personal at a lively song and storytelling style gig.
Toyah will be entertaining the audience with a selection of her much loved hit singles. Supported by musicians Chris Wong and Colin Hinds, her performance will include It’s a Mystery, Thunder in the Mountains, I Want to be Free and Good Morning Universe.

Soundstock Festival, a two-day music and comedy event, will welcome thousands through its gates this weekend for its inaugural appearance on the festival calendar.
Music acts confirmed, include former X Factor contestant Lydia Lucy, as well as Toyah Willcox, Ultimate Eagles, the Johnny Cash Roadshow and the Simon and Garfunkel Story.
Comedians include Patrick Monahan, who will compere over the weekend, as well as Katherine Ryan and Chris Turner.
The festival, which will be at Little Boyton Hall, Roxwell Road, Chelmsford, and is being organised by Ingenious Rock, is backing Essex Air Ambulance, Chelmsford Community Radio and Stanley’s Heroes.

This fantastic evening will see Toyah entertain the audience with a mixture of songs, conversation and video footage from her varied career.

The Musician in Leicester will welcome Toyah to the stage on March 26.
A spokesman said: “A colourful character, part of the ’80s post-punk New Wave scene, Toyah had considerable chart success with hits such as It’s A Mystery, I Want To Be Free and Brave New World. Thanks to the Acoustic… gigs there is a renewed interest in The Acoustic Album, Toyah’s 1996 re-working of a selection of previous recordings, including Blue Meanings, Angels & Demons, The Vow and Moonlight Dancing. “The acoustic gigs have been so successful that I really need to consider doing another acoustic album.” said Toyah in an interview with The Argus last year. It would be interesting to hear which songs would make The Acoustic Album Two.

Mysterious girl: Make a date with pop icon Toyah
As part of the ’80s post-punk New Wave scene, Toyah Willcox had considerable chart success with hits such as It’s A Mystery, I Want To Be Free and Brave New World and starred in movies such as Jubilee and Quadrophenia before turning to television and musical theatre.
Lisa Evans spoke to iconic colourful character before her Up Close And Personal tour comes to Frome’s Cheese and Grain on Friday, February 13.
“I’ve never performed in Frome before so I’m really excited to visit,” said Toyah. “I’ve heard it’s a brilliant venue and a stunning place I love coming to new places so this will be a treat.”
Her current show is a unique chance to experience Toyah up close and personal. A lively unplugged/storytellers style gig, it will include Toyah performing an acoustic set of her loved hit singles and classic songs, alongside recalling stories from her colourful, 35 year career with projections onto a big screen showing clips of films and videos that she has appeared in as she discusses the many famous people she has worked with and the anecdotes with the audience.
“I’ve always loved music and have always felt inspired to do it – it feels like it’s in my genes.”

As mentioned, Toyah was interviewed on The Afternoon Show with Claire Cavanagh on BBC Radio Bristol yesterday.
Toyah’s interview begins approximately 42 minutes into the programme. She began by recounting the story of how her Mother and Father first met in Weston-Super-Mare. Toyah also discussed her Acoustic, Up Close & Personal tour, the origins of her name, a future trip to Japan with the King Crimson tour, reality TV in general and the recent series of Celebrity Big Brother, using full cans of hairspray in the 80s, her diet, cookery programmes, unfulfilled ambitions, and more.
There was also a play of Good Morning Universe from The Acoustic Album.

Toyah tones down her punk pedigree for acoustic Black Country gig
Toyah is toning down her punk pedigree for an acoustic adventure which promises a mix of stories and songs. The singer found fame during the 70s And 80s as an actress and musician who clocked up platinum sales with her album Anthem and The Changeling.
Toyah, who grew up in Birmingham, was awarded a prestigious Honorary Doctorate by the University of Central England to recognise her achievements in performing arts, media and broadcasting. During her career Toyah has consistently returned to making music and she is set for a UK tour of acoustic shows joined by Chris Wong and Colin Hinds for songs interspersed with stories and images from her career.
The tour will roll into the Robin 2, Bilston on Thursday February 5, support at the show will come from Jonny Cole and Steve Mercy.
