“You give me, fire!”

This weekend has been something of an official “unofficial” celebration of one of Toyah’s most glorious pop moments.

The uplifting 1982 anthem Be Proud Be Loud (Be Heard) – written by Toyah Willcox and Joel Bogen, and originally released in August 1982 – and it’s gorgeous related imagery. With a Toyah At Home special, a retro, and incredibly rare, performance of the song from Italian music show, Popcorn, which aired on Italian TV channel Canale 5 from 1980 to 1985!

Official Toyah popped the cherry on the icing of the “Be Proud” cake by also sharing a previously unseen shot from the Be Proud Be Loud (Be Heard) beach photo session.

“Soul deep!”

Aside from all that, how ahead of the curve was Toyah? The positivity and message of Be Proud Be Loud (Be Heard) is relatable, and relevant, to right now. Tomorrow’s Toyah At Home, airing on Toyah’s official You Tube channel and Facebook page, sees Toyah explore the history of, the classic, Ieya. There’s rare archive footage and an unseen performance of probably Toyah’s most iconic song (give or take an It’s A Mystery or Thunder In The Mountains). There’s also an exclusive news announcement from Toyah about a forthcoming release. Toyah At Home airs at 11am (UK time) tomorrow!

Singer, actress and 80s icon Toyah Willcox has experienced persistent paranormal activity in her Worcestershire home ever since she moved in 20 years ago. To lend a helping hand, the team undergo one of their most terrifying investigations to date and uncover a nearby medieval tragedy that could be linked to the hostile entity dwelling in the property. Toyah & Robert’s Sunday Lunch series continues to be phenomenally successful, but overall Toyah’s You Tube channel is performing amazingly in itself. In the past two years the channel has gained 149K followers and each Sunday Lunch video receives hundreds of thousands of views each week. Although as the trilogy of retrospective Sunday Lunch collections from the beginning of the year testified, some of these cover clips have been viewed in their many millions!

Toyah At Home, Burning Question and sporadic other content such as Toyah promo videos or announcements all attract big audiences, with Sunday Lunch the cherry on top of the icing on the Toyah & Robert cake! Sunday Lunch also hits the You Tube Top 10 Trending For Music almost every week, which is, frankly, an amazing reach. (Image © Toyah Willcox)

• Toyah At Home – Drury Lane 40th Anniversary Special: Toyah looks back to Christmas Eve 40 years ago today! In 1981 Toyah took to the stage at Theatre Royal Drury Lane for a very special concert broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and on BBC 2 television as The Old Grey Whistle Test Christmas Special which was seen/heard by over 12 million. The concert featured all of the hit singles from 1981 and celebrated the album Anthem which had remained in the album chart all year. In this special episode of Toyah At Home for Christmas 2021, Toyah reflects on the momentous occasion and we see three songs from the concert.
