Aberdeen Journal: Songs And Stories | Review

Review: Toyah Willcox at The Tivoli in Aberdeen

Mark Lenthall reviews Toyah Willcox at The Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen, Wednesday June 10, 2026.

Not many artists can say they’ve enjoyed two successful careers separated by a kitchen table. Toyah Willcox can.

The viral Sunday Lunch videos she and her husband, prog rock guitarist Robert Fripp, began making during lockdown introduced her to an entirely new generation, proving that sometimes the shortest route back into the spotlight involves a phone camera, a few daft ideas and a complete disregard for dignity.

At Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre on Wednesday night, a stop on her Songs & Stories tour, the audience got to meet the woman who had been all this and more before the algorithm found her.

How was Toyah Willcox at the Tivoli?
Like recent appearances there from Stewart Copeland and Justin Hawkins, the show demonstrated the growing appeal of the “Evening With” format. Audiences increasingly seem willing to hear what happened behind the music.

The woman once dubbed the “High Priestess of Punk” has enough stories over five decades to fill several evenings, never mind one.

Hospital Radio takes a trip down Toyah lane

Torbay broadcaster looks ahead to an evening with the High Priestess of Punk, exploring her 50-year career and chart-topping classics

Obviously, you have to be of a certain age to remember the High Priestess of Punk who burst onto the scene in 1976 both as a musician and actress.

I’m planning ahead and with that in mind I am off to see An Evening with Toyah: Songs and Stories at the Palace Avenue Theatre on March 27.
