Toyah Live 2019: First Gigs Of The Year!

live2019dIt’s February! Toyah plays her first concert of the year tonight at The Arc, Stockton. It’s a busy weekend with a gig tomorrow night at the Doncaster Dome and another at Tithe Barn, Bishop’s Cleeve on Sunday.

Toyah Willcox is a vibrant performer and an inextinguishable flame. Charismatic, outspoken and impossible to categorise, she is one of Britain’s iconic household names – an award-winning rock legend as well as a much-loved stage/screen actress and music composer.

In a career spanning over 40 years Toyah has amassed thirteen top 40 singles, recorded twenty-four albums, written two books, appeared in over forty stage plays, acted in twenty feature films and presented hundreds of television programmes.

The year 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of her music career as Toyah released her first ever single and album studio in 1979. This concert –with her full electric band– will be a celebratory retrospective including hit singles, album classics and fan favourites.

2019 marks 40 years in music for the Birmingham born beauty Toyah, as she invites fans old and new to join her in a retrospective celebratory performance of chart hits and fan favourites spanning 40 years of her career.

Toyah celebrated her 60th birthday last year with the release of her new digital EP ‘Four From Toyah: Birthday Edition’ featuring four new songs from the age defying artist including Telepathic Lover.

Live 2019: Wychwood Festival 2019

Singer, TV presenter, actress, producer… is there any limit to what Toyah Willcox can do? She started out in Derek Jarman’s punk epic Jubilee in 1977 and also starred in Quadrophenia. Then she broke in to singing with her first album becoming a Top 40 hit, producing singles that captured the feeling of the eighties; It’s a Mystery and I want to be free. In 1982 she won the Best Female Singer at the Rock & Pop Awards. Over her 30 year career, Toyah has had 13 Top 40 singles and recorded 20 albums.

She’s taken artistic risks and shown her many talents as a singer songwriter and stage performer as well as writing books, making feature films and presenting a wide range of TV programmes. Currently there are more movies in the pipeline and of course live performances coming up for her many die-hard fans.

The concerts include a 40th anniversary tour of Scotland plus headline solo electric gigs and intimate acoustic shows across the UK. There are also summer festival dates and an appearance with her full band at Belgium’s W-Fest. Further gig dates will be announced and added to the GIGS page in 2019 so stay tuned.

Here’s a brilliant evening’s entertainment with not only an anniversary screening of iconic movie Quadrophenia, but a Q&A with one of its stars, the legendary Toyah Willcox and a live music set with her too. Toyah who went on to be a music, film and TV star and an author played the character Monkey in the 1979 Who album-inspired film which depicts the Mods and Rockers era of the late 1960s and which is celebrating its 40th year. The film will be screened before Toyah takes the stage to talk about the movie and her career at Square Chapel. The film stars Phil Daniels as Jimmy, a young 1960s London-based Mod who escapes from his dead-end job as a mailroom boy by dancing, partying, taking amphetamines, riding his scooter, and brawling with the motorcycle-riding Rockers. After he and his friends participate in a huge brawl with the Rockers by the seaside in Brighton, he is arrested and his life starts to spiral out of control. Toyah has had eight Top 40 singles and released over 20 albums, Her biggest hits were “It’s a Mystery”, “Thunder in the Mountains” and “I Want to Be Free”.  She has written two books, appeared in over forty stage plays and ten feature films.

Essex Live: Brentwood Festival 2019 Acts Announced

essexlive18qHere are the acts that have been announced so far

With preparations for next year’s Brentwood Festival well underway, a number of acts appearing in the line-up have been announced.

So far those that have been confirmed include the singer, songwriter and musician Paul Young, famous for his hit singles such as Love of the Common People, Wherever I Lay My Hat and Everytime You Go Away.

Toyah Willcox will also be taking to the stage. The singer, songwriter, musician, actress, producer and author, has accomplished a lot over her career including eight top 40 singles.

Another act will be Katrina Leskanich, the former lead singer of the pop rock band Katrina and the Waves, famous for the song Walking on Sunshine.

From punk princess to cult stage and actress, Toyah Willcox has announced she will celebrate 40 years of music at the Liquid Room next year with her first headline concert in the Capital for more than 25 years.

Charismatic, outspoken and impossible to categorise, Toyah played her last full gig in the city in 1982 when she wowed The Playhouse, having previously built her Edinburgh fanbase with gigs in venues such as Tiffany’s and The Odeon in the late 70s and early 80s.

One of the UK’s most iconic household names and now also an award-winning rock legend and well loved stage/screen actress and composer, the concert will also celebrate another milestone in the singers’ life – Toyah turned 60 in May of this year.

Toyah Live 2019: Acoustic, Up Close & Personal + Live in Concert

live2019cNext year is already shaping up to be a busy 12 months of live gigs for Toyah.

The Official Gigs page at toyahwillcox.com has confirmed 10 new concerts, both acoustic and electric, for 2019. Tickets for many of the dates are on sale now.

There are six Acoustic, Up Close & Personal dates, at Memorial Theatre, Frome, Somerset (15th February); West End Centre, Aldershot (15th March); The McMillan Theatre, Bridgwater (5th April); Roadmender, Northampton (6th April); St. John’s Church, Godalming, Surrey (10th May); and Fairkytes Arts Centre, Hornchurch (24th May).

There is also four Live in Concert 2019 gigs, at Arc, Stockton on Tees (1st February); Doncaster Dome (2nd February); Brudnell Social Club, Leeds (22nd February), and O2 Academy Newcastle, Newcastle Upon Tyne (22nd June).

Toyah’s four recent Birthday gigs, in Manchester, Bristol, Wolverhampton and London received great reviews and feedback. A ticket to see Toyah onstage truly is a perfect Christmas gift!

Toyah will play the Synth Scene stage on Friday 16th August 2019. Punk and pop music legend Toyah has announced a concert date in Doncaster. The singer, best remembered for a string of hits in the 80s including It’s A Mystery, will come to The Dome on February 2. The star, whose full name is Toyah Willcox, has had a career spanning more than thirty years and has notched up eight top 40 singles and released more than 20 albums.

Toyah, 60, has also enjoyed a career as an actress, producer and author and has appeared in a string of films, TV shows and stage plays.
