Thunder In The Highlands: Newsy Bits!

tith19f Thunder In The Highlands, Toyah’s four-date Scottish tour gets going on Thursday 25th April at Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh.

• There are also dates in Dundee (Church), Inverness (Ironworks) and Glasgow (Classic Grand) over subsequent nights from 26th – 28th April.

• This will include the first live performances of Dance In The Hurricane and features a set of Crimson Queen songs and classic hits and favourites from the last 40 years.

• The Glasgow venue has been upgraded to Classic Grand. Original tickets remain valid.

• A new 2019 Toyah T-shirt will be available alongside signed copies of a selection of recently discovered vintage Toyah vinyl.

W-Fest 2019: Belgium Festival Change Of Venue

wfest19bAs previously mentioned last year, Toyah will play Belgium’s W-Fest this Summer. The four day festival – with Toyah playing on 16th August on the Synth Scene stage – has moved venue.

The festival runs from Thursday 15th – Sunday 18th August (with a tribute band gig on 14th August for those with five-night camping tickets) and boasts an incredible line-up of bands.

The festival includes a significant number of great bands. These include: The Primitives, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Stranglers,  The Blow Monkeys, Toyah, Johnny Hates Jazz, Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Tony Hadley, Sigue Sigue Sputnik Electronic, Inertia, Lene Lovich, The Human League, Peter Hook & The Light, Killing Joke, Desperate Journalist, Nitzer Ebb, China Crisis, New Model Army, Jimmy Somerville and many others.

Toyah has announced a series of four Scottish gigs in April 2019. Thunder In The Highlands Tour 2019 will play Edinburgh, Dundee, Inverness and Glasgow.

The year 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of her music career as Toyah released her first ever single and studio album in 1979.

This concert –with her full electric band– is one of four exclusive Scottish dates that will be a celebratory retrospective including hit singles, album classics and fan favourites.

Live 2019: Let’s Rock – The Retro Winter Tour

28th November: Nottingham: Motorpoint Arena
11th December: Glasgow: SSE Hydro
13th December: London: Wembley SSE Arena

Artists announced so far are: Tony Hadley, Marc Almond, ABC, Jimmy Somerville, Nik Kershaw, Boney M, Altered Images, Toyah, Sonia, Annabella Lwin, Peter Coyle, Dr & The Medics.

More will be announced in the lead up to the short tour.

Let’s Rock will be tucked up nice and warm indoors this winter as our Retro Winter Tour brings an amazing line-up to arenas in Nottingham, Glasgow and London. Pre-sale tickets available at 9am on Wednesday 10th April with general sale tickets from Friday 12th April.

Northampton Chronicle: Toyah to Headline Northampton Venue

nhampch15aToyah Willcox is returning to the Roadmender as part of her Acoustic, Up Close & Personal tour.

The singer-songwriter will be playing an unplugged set of her best-known hits and classic songs, alongside recalling stories from her colourful, 35-year career. From filming pop videos on horseback at 5am to acting alongside Katharine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier, Toyah will be lifting the lid on working in the entertainment business.

…Toyah headlines the Roadmender on Saturday, April 6. Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets cost £22 before fees.

Brighton News: Music Icon Toyah Announces Brighton Concert

bhnews19aToyah hits the road in autumn 2019 to celebrate and perform material from her newly re-imagined double album ‘In The Court Of The Crimson Queen’, released 12 April 2019. The album, written and arranged by Toyah Wilcox and Simon Darlow, presents a collection of finely honed songcraft, killer hooks and brings together two lifetimes of performing, writing and producing music.

The live dates will see the accomplished live performer present songs from the album including lead single ‘Sensational’ and epic album opener ‘Dance In The Hurricane’ alongside instantly recognisable classics from her revered catalogue of hit singles including ‘It’s A Mystery’, ‘Thunder In The Mountains’ ‘Good Morning Universe’ and ‘Brave New World’,  live favourites and renowned album tracks. Simon Darlow will also join Toyah on stage at some of the tour dates.

Eastern Daily Press: Toyah Announced For Holt Festival 2019

Punk princess Toyah and music legend Georgie Fame are among the first highlights announced for the Holt Festival 2019. Now in its 11th year, it’s one of the East of England’s most anticipated events and attracts visitors from near and far.

Each July the festival, whose media partners are the Eastern Daily Press and North Norfolk News, sets the Georgian country town alight with performers, musicians, art exhibitions and literary events. The early announcements include two music stars with many weeks in the charts between them.

While Toyah is well known these days for her TV, film and theatre acting, it’s her music that takes centre-stage in Holt. This year is her 40th as a top music draw and she’s bringing her full electric band for a special show.

Live 2019: The Crimson Queen Tour 2019

Halifax Courier: Toyah to Mark Quadrophenia’s 40th anniversary

Stage, screen and music star Toyah Willcox will be in Halifax on Saturday (February 16) for an exclusive 40th anniversary screening of the mod classic Quadrophenia. Toyah, who plays Monkey in the film version of The Who’s rock opera, will also take part in a Q&A at Square Chapel arts centre, talk about the movie and her career in music – and perform a live acoustic gig with her band.

The cult classic film also starred Sting, Phil Daniels, Leslie Ash and Ray Winstone at the start of their careers with the action set in Brighton during clashes between rival gangs of Mods and Rockers. The film will be shown at 6pm, followed by the live Q&A hosted by radio presenter Alex Cann. Following that will be Toyah’s live set at 9pm. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of her music career as she released her first single and album in 1979.

This acoustic concert will include hit singles, album classics and fan favourites.The Q&A has sold out but there are still a handful of tickets left for Toyah’s live set. Go to www.squarechapel.co.uk for more information and booking.

Quadrophenia plus a Q&A and live music with Toyah Willcox

Here’s a brilliant evening’s entertainment with not only an anniversary screening of iconic movie Quadrophenia, but a Q&A with one of its stars, the legendary Toyah Willcox and a live music set with her too. Toyah who went on to be a music, film and TV star and an author played the character Monkey in the 1979 Who album-inspired film which depicts the Mods and Rockers era of the late 1960s and which is celebrating its 40th year. The film will be screened before Toyah takes the stage to talk about the movie and her career at Square Chapel. The film stars Phil Daniels as Jimmy, a young 1960s London-based Mod who escapes from his dead-end job as a mailroom boy by dancing, partying, taking amphetamines, riding his scooter, and brawling with the motorcycle-riding Rockers. After he and his friends participate in a huge brawl with the Rockers by the seaside in Brighton, he is arrested and his life starts to spiral out of control. Toyah has had eight Top 40 singles and released over 20 albums, Her biggest hits were “It’s a Mystery”, “Thunder in the Mountains” and “I Want to Be Free”.  She has written two books, appeared in over forty stage plays and ten feature films.

Toyah Live 2019: Rock & Bike Fest

rockbike19bToyah plays the Rock & Bike Fest 2019 this Summer. She previously played the festival in 2010 as part of the Vampires Rock tour, and again the following year with her own live set and in 2012 she was a Guest Presenter.

2019 sees Toyah return to the Rock & Bike Fest, which takes place at Carnfield Hall in Derbyshire, to play another full band live set.
