Toyah on the Radio: The Older Woman (Ep 2)

The first episode of The Older Woman is now available to listen to at BBC iPlayer. It will remain online until early next Friday morning.

Monica Winfield’s BBC Radio Leicester show, which aired on Saturday morning and includes an interview with Toyah, is now available to listen to at BBC iPlayer.

There appears to be a fault with the audio for this and the first hour or so of the programme is silent but luckily it begins working just before Toyah’s interview begins, at just after 1hr 15m into the show.

A great interview with Toyah on today’s Steve Wright In The Afternoon show on ‘BBC Radio 2’, with Steve delving into Toyah’s past and talking about her early career and pop success in the Eighties. He also enquired whether her late 70’s/early 80s image was actually a persona or real.

Toyah also talks about currently touring with Hormonal Housewives, impersonating Madonna on crutches and much more. There were plays of ‘It’s A Mystery’ and ‘I Want To Be Free’.

• Toyah makes her first live music appearance of 2013 today, at the ‘Here and Now: The Very Best Of The 80s’ Weekender in Bognor Regis. BBC Radio Three Counties: Toyah’s interview from Roberto Perrone’s show yesterday is now available to listen to at BBC iPlayer. This is a mammoth four-hour show. Toyah’s interview begins at approximately 3hrs 7m into the programme and runs for around six minutes. She talks movies, Hormonal Housewives and more. Listen here.

• Toyah was played on Alex Lester’s ‘BBC Radio 2’ show, early Friday morning. ‘Thunder In The Mountains’ was included on his programme playlist in the “Listener’s Library” strand, requested by Sam Spam from Birmingham. Sam said ” There’s not enough Toyah on the radio. Eat your heart out Lady Gaga, Toyah did it all first”. The full show is available to listen to here. Theatre in Wales: Hormonal Housewives at the New Theatre, Cardiff: Following their hugely successful 2012 tour, the irrepressible Hormonal Housewives are back at the New Theatre, Cardiff from Thursday 4 – Friday 5 April. Having caused mayhem and mania on their last visit, Toyah Willcox leads the girls in this side-splitting evening.

Gloucestershire County Council: Council Staff Climb Mountain for Comic Relief: All council employees have been asked to release their inner Adam Ant, Boy George or Toyah Willcox and dress in 80s fancy dress on Thursday 14th March.

• Toyah’s travel woes from Monday were even reported on by the RAC.

BBC Radio: Late Show Interview @ iPlayer

BBC Radio’s Late Show with Keith Middleton is now available at BBC iPlayer for the next week.

It includes an interesting interview with Toyah, recorded earlier yesterday evening, beginning around two hours into the show. She talks about living in Worcester, ghosts and hauntings, rabbits (and droppings formations!!), being involved with punk and how her music career evolved from cult status in the 70s into mainstream success in the 1980s, alternative career paths (Toyah would like to have been a sculptress), Hormonal Housewives and more.

There are also plays of ‘It’s A Mystery’, ‘Be Proud Be Loud (Be Heard)’, ‘Thunder In the Mountains’ and ‘I Want To Be Free’. The interview and music runs for around 35 minutes.

Woman’s Hour: 2012 Musical Highlights

The New Year’s Day edition of BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour was a look back at the last 12 months of the show, including Toyah’s guest appearance from January 2012 when she discussed punk.

Toyah appears at approximately 19-minutes into the programme, though Tori Amos and Sinead O’Connor feature earlier so the entire hour is worth listening to.

Neil Tennant’s Smash Hits Christmas, which aired yesterday on ‘BBC Radio 4’, is now available to listen to online at BBC iPlayer. Toyah is included in the 30 minute programme, discussing ‘Smash Hits’ in the early 1980s and also the memorable and iconic ‘Brave New World’ cover issue .

Neil Tennant had a life as a journalist before he became famous as a Pet Shop Boy. In fact, it was on a Smash Hits trip to New York that he had his big breakthrough with the record producer Bobby O. Here, 30 years after his first stint on pop’s most successful and inventive magazine, Neil recalls the golden days of Smash Hits. We hear from founder and legendary magazine maker Nick Logan, editors David Hepworth and Mark Ellen, writers Miranda Sawyer and Sylvia Patterson, and from regular Smash Hits cover girl, Toyah.

BBC Radio Kent: ‘Matthew Davies Show’ Toyah Interview

Toyah guested on Matthew Davies Show yesterday morning on BBC Radio Kent.

Toyah talked all things panto and playing the baddie in Sleeping Beauty at The Marlowe Theatre. She also mentioned her plans for 2013.

The show is available until next Saturday at BBC iPlayer Radio. Toyah appears at approximately 37 minutes into the programme with a play of ‘I Want To Be Free’ and then her interview. It runs for around seven minutes.

Steve Lamacq’s Rock College: Toyah Talks Bowie

Steve Lamacq’s Rock College is now available to listen to online at BBC iPlayer. It will remain there until 11pm next Thursday.

You don’t need books, there’s no detention and the common room record player works. Lammo opens the doors to his rock college, joined by Bernard Sumner, Toyah and Gideon Coe.

Toyah was Guest Lecturer: She talked about the moment that changed her life forever: First seeing, and hearing, David Bowie, specifically the album ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars’.

Toyah talks passionately about Bowie and the influence his music and imagery had on her life and career, as well as many other people over the years. She appears at approximately 44 minutes into the show.

Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable: BBC iPlayer

Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable, which aired earlier this evening on ‘BBC 6Music’, is now available for the next week at BBC iPlayer.

Toyah, James Endeacott and Frankie from Frankie and The Heartstrings are on the panel reviewing the latest releases.

Toyah briefly talks about The Changeling Resurrection II Tour and the audience who go to her gigs in 2012, and along with other guests reviews the new singles by, among others, Adam Ant, Little Green Cars, Stubborn Heart, The Lumineers and Madness.
