February 11th, 2013

More great Toyah photos from the early 80s, both rarely seen shots from well-known photo sessions. The first is from the famous 1981 “leopard print” shoot and the other from thw ‘Daily Mirror’ British Rock & Pop Awards shoot in 1982. Click below to zoom. (Thanks to Kev Tucker and Ray Sears, and also Andrew York for colouring the 1981 photo)

Remember ’83: Toyah Talks ‘Love Is The Law’

January 20th, 2013

Dreamscape is ‘Remembering ’83’ all through 2013, with sporadic updates related to Toyah’s career in 1983, in the build-up to the ‘Love Is The Law & Greatest Hits’ tour in the Autumn.

Toyah talks ‘Love Is The Law’ in 1983: “For the first time I’ve written real love songs, a field I’ve never ventured into before. The songs are all inter related. There’s a loose story behind it but I’m not telling anyone that. There’s a very emotional feeling to the whole thing.”

Toyah talks the ‘Love Is The Law’ and ‘Rebel Run’ imagery in 1987: “This is the Rebel Run look. I was into armour. A friend, Simon, made a bronze headdress based on the skeletal structure of American football players. What I wanted to put acros was The New Woman. I believe we’ve got into a new kind of feminism. Women’s bodies are becoming more muscular, more streamlined. They’re not based on having babies. I won’t be having babies. By now I’d changed from a girl into a woman. Everything is based on becoming the Ultimate Woman.” (Thanks to Andrew York)

December 22nd, 2012

This is brilliant. A huge thank you to, another longtime friend of Dreamscape, Andrew York for taking the time to colour the Toyah @ Pop Goes Christmas in 1982 photo. I’ve added a bit of text and a tree to add to the festive feel of it. (Thanks again to Andi and Andrew)

Changeling Resurrection: Toyah Takes London… into Nightflight

April 22nd, 2012

Andrew York’s stunning art, celebrating ‘The Changeling Resurrection 2012’ playing London (it’s sold out dontcha know!). Andrew generously created this Toyah masterpiece especially for Falling To Earth, helping us to mark the occasion in style! Toyah tweeted late this afternoon: “At last! At bush hall! Very busy. There’s 2 film crews in tonite. Can’t wait 2 rock“. Fitting that, the incredible, ‘The Changeling’ is finally being celebrated as it always should have been.

This evening, as Londoners mark the album’s 30th with Toyah, I’ll be consoling myself by ploughing through my new Doctor Who: Revisitations 2 box set (a pressie from a brilliant mate – Thanks Mark!). Please click above to view a larger version of the “Toyah Takes London” art, and here for a version without text. (Thanks again to, the amazingly talented, Andrew and to Dean Stockings/Sean Chapman for the wonderful photo/imagery • Original photo © Toyah Willcox/Dean Stockings | Art by Andrew York • View more from the shoot at toyahwillcox.com)

An exciting time for everyone heading to Bush Hall tonight for ‘The Changeling Resurrection’ London concert. Toyah tweeted yesterday: “Waiting to play Bush Hall tomorrow is like waiting for Christmas morning! I wanna play now!“. Return, if you can, later to view amazing Toyah art created, by Andrew York, to mark tonight’s gig. I’ve named it “Toyah Takes London”. Unthought Of, Though, Somehow: Bird in Flight

March 23rd, 2012

An interesting Toyah-related blog from, the brilliantly titled, ‘Unthought Of, Though, Somehow’.

By November 1979 I had been in my first full-time job, at an insurance company, for around 18 months. It was soul-destroyingly dull, a dullness only alleviated by some of the good people I worked with and also the chance to spend my lunch & post-work hours hanging out in the local independent record shop – a matter of yards away. I spent a huge amount of time (and money) in the place and got to know most of the staff quite well.
