Craven Herald: Final Countdown is on to Grassington Festival

grassington16cFinal countdown is on to Grassington Festival, which will offer music, mayhem, colour and creativity

Grassington Festival 2016 kicks off tomorrow with an opening night party featuring chart-topping 80s band Hue and Cry. For the next 15 days, the festival will offer music, mayhem, colour and creativity as artists, musicians and festival goers converge on the village in search of fun and inspiration.

grassington16dNow in its 36th year, it boasts a wide range of events and activities from family friendly entertainment to walks, talks, workshops and creative challenges – many of which are free. The second week also boasts the now renowned Festival in the Field which will once again feature some of the biggest names from the worlds of comedy and music.

Seth Lakeman will be first to perform in the marquee on Tuesday, June 28, followed by the first-ever Live at the Marquee comedy night featuring Rich Hall, Rob Beckett, Shappi Khorsandi and Justin Moorhouse.

Next up are the critically acclaimed Bootleg Beatles, followed by 70s and 80s icon The Stranglers. The legendary Marc Almond supported by Toyah Willcox will bring the festival to a close on Saturday, July 2 with what is sure to be a Last Night Party to remember.

Craven Herald: Galaxy Of Stars For Grassington Festival

grassington16cGalaxy of stars lined up for this year’s Grassington Festival

All roads will lead to Grassington in June, with a galaxy of stars lined up for the village’s two-week art and cultural festival. The opening night on June 17 promises a crowd-pleasing mix of Frank Sinatra songs performed by brothers Patrick and Gregory Kane from Hue and Cry alongside their own hits and newer material.

British rock group The Stranglers promise a showstopper of an evening on Friday, July 1, and finally, closing the festival on Saturday, July 2, will be the infamous Last Night Party with Marc Almond, supported by Toyah Willcox.

Craven Herald: Toyah Joins Grassington Festival Line-Up

grassington16aToyah will play the Grassington Festival in Yorkshire this Summer, an event she previously performed at in June 2008. This year’s festival takes place between the 17th June and 2nd July.

Punk princess Toyah Willcox joins this year’s Grassington Festival line-up

More acts have been announced for this year’s Grassington Festival, which runs from June 17 to July 2. Supporting the inimitable and iconic Marc Almond for the Last Night Party on July 2, will be 80s punk princess Toyah Willcox.

Toyah rose to fame in the late 1970s and early 1980s, quickly becoming a household name as a result of her distinctive style, and memorable top ten hits; It’s a Mystery, I Want to be Free and Thunder in the Mountains. The award-winning outdoor theatre company, Illyria, will return to Grassington Festival for the sixth consecutive year, with a magical outdoor performance at Bolton Abbey Priory on Friday, July 1.
