Bury Pride 2018: Town celebrates equality and diversity
Rainbow flags flew proudly across the town centre as the march towards equality continued at Bury Pride.
Hundreds of people turned out at the town hall draped in the familiar colours to celebrate diversity event during its second year.
The day began with the seventh Walking Rainbow parade through the streets before guests were treated to an array of musical performances and speeches, including from singer and actress Toyah Willcox, who headlined the show.
The outdoor stage also hosted The Manchester Gay and Lesbian Chorus, Divas in Denial, fire eaters and Utopia UK, who were all compèred by Miss Sal Ford.
And LGBT groups and other organisations set up stalls and chatted to people about the day.
Bury Pride was launched last year with the aim of bringing people out on to the streets to celebrate equality and diversity.

Toyah just gets busier and busier – films, theatre, music, gigs and much more – stay updated on all things Toyah the best way there is, direct from my favourite workaholic herself – at Twitter.
Thanks to everyone who has been emailing about the lack of news posts here. After 17+ years of updates at this site and three years working on the Toyah fanzine without a break between 2013 – 2016 I decided 2017 would be a year of very sporadic updates at toyah.net.
Toyah played a mind-boggling FOUR gigs over the weekend – Wellowfest 2017, Let’s Rock London, Party in the Park Dunstable and Party in the Park Cookley – Below is a press report on Wellowfest and check out Toyah’s Twitter for direct updates from the incredibly busy lady herself!
Wellowfest: Big names and local acts mix for village festival
More than 40 bands and singers will perform over three days at the annual Wellowfest music festival this weekend. They include headliners Hazel O’Connor, Toyah Willcox and The Blockheads.
It takes place at Chapel Farm, Wellow, from tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday. The festival, launched in 2014, covers a wide range of genres, including pop, punk, country and 1980s classics.
The organisers said: “In its fourth year of running, Wellowfest maintains its roots as a family-friendly festival with a chilled out and relaxing vibe. Kick back and enjoy the best of the English countryside while listening to an eclectic mix of sounds.”
