.Nottingham Post: Theatre Honours Panto Stars
Saturday 11th January, 2014
To mark the Theatre Royal's best-selling pantomime ever, Peter Pan stars David Hasselhoff and Barney Harwood have been awarded seat dedications in the auditorium alongside their co-star, Nottingham actress Su Pollard.

Su was awarded the theatre's very first "name a seat" plaque in June 2008.

Her seat, J17 in the stalls, bears a brass plaque engraved with the inscription "Su Pollard Queen of the Midlands!. She said: "I just think it's the most beautiful thing because at least it means that you're going to be in the annals of time for years and years. I was greatly honoured, of course, with it being my home town as well, which is so lovely."

.The Dominion Post: A Mean Mrs Hannigan - And Loving It
Monday 6th January, 2014
Never work with children or animals.

It's an old acting adage that Su Pollard is acutely aware of, yet more than happy to ignore despite playing second- fiddle to both in stage musical Annie.

She plays one of the villains of the piece, Miss Hannigan, an orphanage matron, who prefers alcoholic beverages to the children (like the eponymous mop-haired poppet) she is charged with.

And yet rather than being like her character - bitter - Su Pollard's enthusiasm is infectious. It's certainly hard not to be upbeat after speaking to the still bubbly 64-year-old, whether it is on the topic of getting into character, her beloved Nottingham Forest (who she hopes will be celebrating promotion to the Premier League in 2014), or earlier visits to New Zealand.

.Newark Advertiser: Mermaid Role Marks Su’s 40th Anniversary
Monday 6th January, 2014
Television and stage favourite Su Pollard is marking her 40th anniversary in showbusiness by performing in the panto, Peter Pan, in her home city. Su, who was born in Nottingham, plays Mimi The Magical Mermaid at the Theatre Royal, alongside David Hasselhoff as Captain Hook and Barney Harwood as Peter Pan until January 12.

Su, pictured right, said: “I could not have wished for a better place to perform to mark my milestone. Nottingham has a special place in my heart because this is where my career began.

“I started acting at the Arts Theatre before making my television debut on Opportunity Knocks, coming second to a singing Jack Russell dog.”

Su became a household name after winning the role of chalet maid Peggy Ollerenshaw in Hi-de-Hi! She also starred in You Rang, M’Lord? and Oh, Doctor Beeching!

.Nottingham Post: Nottingham Icon, Su Pollard, Reflects On 40 Years In Show Business
Monday 6th January, 2014
She's a national treasure, our Su. Her career, spanning 40 years, has embraced TV comedy, Shakespeare, panto and the West End and is as colourful as the look she's rocking today – a red floral headband and fluorescent pink leg warmers. The Nottingham-born entertainer was just six when she first realised she could make an audience laugh at Berridge Infant School in Hyson Green.

She might have been playing a mere 'assistant' to Angel Gabriel in the nativity but Su made a lasting impression after falling through the lid of a cardboard box she was standing on.

"It hadn't been stuck down properly and my feet went through the box – I was a bit upset but, of course, the audience were killing themselves laughing," she recalls.

.The Independent: The Hoff, Hooked!
Monday 6th January, 2014
Backstage with David Hasselhoff and the panto brigade

Booing and hissing ex-soap stars and Eighties musicians has become an integral, if confusing, part of the Christmas tradition in the UK. As a kid, I remember pulling at my mum's ski-pants to ask who Sinitta was and why everyone was so excited to see her perform next to Cannon and Ball (it was always Cannon and Ball).

It may seem – thanks to certain castings – like an anachronism, but pantomime is as popular as ever before, with market leaders Qdos (a pantomime production company hosting 24 shows this year) anticipating 1.5 million people shouting "He's behind you" this season.

So why do we still love panto? Is it to do with pulling up the drawbridge on modernity, throwing away the PC handbook and stripping everything back to bawdy basics? To find out, I went along to the rehearsal of this year's production of Peter Pan at Nottingham's Theatre Royal, starring David Hasselhoff as Hook, Su Pollard as Mimi the Magical Mermaid and CBeebies presenter Barney Harwood as Peter.

.Peter Pan: Newsy Bits & Pieces!
Monday 6th January, 2014
Scott Bird Online: Peter Pan Review: According to the Guinness Book of World Records, David Hasselhoff is the most-watched TV personality of all time. According to audiences at the Theatre Royal, he's perhaps the most popular panto star yet to tread the boards! Qdos Pantomimes present a sparkling production of J.M. Barrie's much loved classic - the non traditional pantomime that in recent years has risen in audience popularity and with CBBC's Barney Harwood and TV Goddess Su Pollard also on board, what is there not to love? - Continue reading...

Retford Times: Tree-mendous gift for stars: Leading cast members of this year's Nottingham Theatre Royal pantomime have been touched by the magic of Sherwood Forest! Pam Reader: Review of Peter Pan at the Nottingham Theatre Royal: I love Peter Pan by J M Barrie, it's one of my favourite stories from childhood. I have to admit that when I saw the opening set of Peter Pan at the Theatre Royal Nottingham my heart did give a little leap of joy. The moment The children go to bed to sleep is perfect, right down to the dog, the arrival of Peter Pan (a flying masterclass from Barney Harwood) and the twinkling light of Tinkerbell flickering in the doll's house windows during a game of hide and seek with Peter -
