fashion statement and many
celebrities have made a
distinctive pair of specs a
central part of their outfit.
We've picked out ten celebs that
have put glasses at the centre of
their signature style.
8. Su Pollard:
The Hi-de-Hi star was another
icon of the eighties that became
famous for wearing a pair of
glasses. Her choice in spectacles
were bold to the point of
outrageous and in that way they
matched her on-screen persona
perfectly. becoming an integral
part of her outfit.

We
previously mentioned this
wonderful painting of Su last
year but now there is a little
more info on it at 'flickr'. The
art is by Genevieve Murray, who
says of Su and the painting:
"Su Pollard, an actress I
met through a family/friends get
together was completely mad and
hilarious. What struck me about
her was her vibrant aura and
style. I think I have captured
her effervescence through use of
colour and palette knife inspired
by Nick Lepard." View the
painting at flickr here, and the
preparatory work here. You can also

Journal: Nostalgia: Oh, Doctor
Beeching!
Sunday

Press
Clips
Su is mentioned in a
new article by The Journal on the 50th
anniversary of the Beeching
Report.
His report, which led to
the decimation of this
countrys railways, was
published 50 years ago turning Dr
Richard Beeching into
Britains most hated civil
servant. But has history been
fair on him? Mike Kelly reports
Mention the name Dr Richard
Beeching to people of a certain
age and theyll give an
involuntary shudder. They call
Beeching the mad axe
man who ripped the guts out
of Britains rail system,
whose recommendations led to the
closure of over 2,000 stations
and thousands of miles of track,
mainly on rural and industrial
lines.
Their thoughts are perhaps in the
song over the end titles of the
1960s set comedy series Oh
Dr Beeching! about the
fight to save a rural railway
line, sung by actress Su Pollard.

A reminder that the

Benidorm, in which Su
guest stars, airs tonight at 9pm

Benidorm:
ITV1: Friday 4th January: 9.00pm
Christmas Special Festive episode
from Boxing Day 2010. There may
be plenty of sun, sangria and
Santa, but for Madge it does not
look like being a happy Christmas
as the Garveys come to stay. With
Mel stuck in Marrakech, she has
to organise the Benidorm Palace's
seasonal spectacular - and the
show's female star has gone
missing. Donald and Jacqueline
check in at the Solana with some
intriguing friends, and it
appears Noreen's male travel
companion is more than he
appears. Su Pollard, Louie Spence
and Brian Murphy guest star, with
Sheila Reid, Siobhan Finneran,
Tim Healy, Steve Pemberton,
Janine Duvitski and Elsie Kelly.
