Theatre
As you may already
be aware, Su has recently been
giving her all as Miss Hannigan
in Annie in Hong Kong,
at The Academy of Performing
Arts.
As we previously reported, the
production will also play at the
Grand Theatre, Marina Bay Sands,
Singapore from 10th July to 5th
August.
The UK's hilarious star of stage
and TV screen Su Pollard leads a
star cast of over 40, as the
dastardly gin-soaked Miss
Hannigan, while David McAlister,
a veteran of the West End stage
and TV dramas, plays the kindly
Daddy Warbucks. With a memorable
score including "It's A Hard
Knock Life", "Easy
Street" and the legendary
"Tomorrow",
fantastically visual
choreography, a side-splittingly
funny script and of course the
adorable dog Sandy, it really is
no surprise that ANNIE has become
one of the best loved family
musicals of all time.

.HK: Su
Pollard: Interview
Monday
11th June, 2012
Interview
A new
interview with Su, published on
Thursday by 'HK (Knows Hong
Kong)'.
British comedienne, stage and TV
actress Su Pollard has been in
the biz for almost 40 years, and
is particularly well-known for
her work on 80s and 90s British
sitcoms like
Hi-de-hi! and
You Rang,
Mlord? Shortly before
reprising her role as Miss
Hannigan in the current
production of Annie,
she tells Leanne Mirandilla about
the stage vs. the screen and how
Miss Hannigan isnt really
horriblejust misunderstood.
HK Magazine:
Could you tell us a little bit
about your role as Miss Hannigan
in Annie? Su Pollard: Miss
Hannigan is thought of as being
horrible, but I always say that
shes notshes
just frustrated because she never
gets any male company. All she
sees is a man who comes to change
the sheets once a month. And
shes taken to drink, you
see, she hides Jack Daniels
bottles all over the orphanage.
You can see why Miss Hannigan
takes to drink, because [the
orphans] keep dangling dead mice
in front of hertheyre
awful to her! Shes just fed
up, shes been with the kids
all her life and shes never
seen anything else. Its a
really fun role to play.
Su, David McAlister
and Ella Crossland guested on
RTHK's Kwok Talk on
Radio 3 on Wednesday afternoon,
interviewed by Crystal Kwok.
They chatted about Annie,
Chinese and UK culture, cuisine,
child actors/performers and much
more.
Su also talked about her unique
way of dressing.

available to listen to, at the
'RTHK' website, here. For a direct link

Epoch Times: 'Annie' in Hong Kong
Saturday

The timeless
musical direct from the UK:
The Broadway classic Annie
premiered on March 31 at The Hong
Kong Academy of Performing Arts
(HKAPA). Twenty-eight local girls
were chosen to perform in Annie,
with English musical theatre
actors Su Pollard and David
McAlister bringing this serious
yet humorous musical to life.
With 30 years of acting
experience, Su Pollard has truly
mastered the character of Miss
Hannigan. Amidst her funny
gestures, she brings out the
innermost thoughts of the evil
orphanage supervisor. In an
interview, she said in Cantonese
the words ho ma fan (very
annoying). She made the
remark in such a humorous voice
that it brought laughter and
smiles to this reporter.
When asked where her knowledge of
Cantonese comes from, Ms. Pollard
said it had been taught to her by
none other than Director Roger
Hannah. This is her second visit
to Hong Kong in 12 years, and she
was overwhelmed by the change in
the citys skyline.
Classic episodes of Hi-de-Hi!
are showing daily, around Midday,

popular television channel.

Those of you who are
constantly complaining about how
theres never anything to do
in Singapore should take your
words back. Singapore may be
small, but theres a bundle
of activities happening here
everyday. World-class acts are
putting their mark here day after
day, making Singapore the
definition of a bustling artistic
metropolis, side by side with
cities like New York City and
London.
Su Pollard will play Miss
Hannigan, the alcohol-loving
orphanage matron, who despite her
job, despises children. Everyone
recognises the erratic and
flamboyant Su Pollard. One who
doesnt allow age to deter
her from anything at all, she is
perhaps most known for the BBC
hit series, Hi-de-Hi!, where she
played the hilarious Peggy.
Pollard is also no newbie on the
musical front she has
appeared in the musical
production of Grease, Godspell,
Me and My Girl and many more.
