.Su in
Hong Kong
Thursday
15th March, 2012
Theatre
We can reveal that
Su spent time in Hong Kong last
week, giving radio and press
interviews for the forthcoming
run of Annie, opening at
the Lyric Theatre, The Hong Kong
Academy for Performing Arts, on
31 May 2012.
During her three-day visit, as
well as talking to the media
about her forthcoming role, Su
also re-acquainted herself with
Hong Kong having worked there on
two previous occasions.
Su says: Im really
excited to be coming back to Hong
Kong, and especially to have the
opportunity to get to know this
vibrant city over the few weeks
that Ill be working here.
Im particularly looking
forward to some authentic
Cantonese food I never got
the hang of chopsticks on my last
visit so you never know, I might
have mastered the art by the time
I leave!
I love playing Miss
Hannigan as it is such a comic
role, which is my
thing really
Ive been beastly and
horrible for six years now and
have loved every minute. It will
be fun to work with a new cast of
orphans from Hong Kong the
kids are always great to work
with and keep me on my toes,
playing tricks on me both on and
off stage!
Joining Su on the
Lyric Theatre stage on 31 May
will be David McAlister, a
veteran of the West End stage and
TV dramas, who will play the role
of the kindly billionaire
businessman Oliver
Daddy Warbucks.
Producer James Cundall, Chief
Executive of Lunchbox Theatrical
Productions said, To be
working with two of the UKs
leading actors is a dream come
true. Su Pollard became a
national treasure with her
performance in Hi-de-Hi!, where
she demonstrated that
unbelievable comedic timing which
she will bring to the role of
Miss Hannigan. David McAlister is
a consummate star, with the most
incredible array of credits
spanning more than three decades
and a wide spectrum of
entertainment. Hong Kong is in
for a real treat with these two
wonderful actors starring in such
a popular musical.
Tickets priced from HK$350 to
HK$950 are available now by

Home: Dot Commons' Diary: Never
Mind Enda, Heres Su
Thursday

Press
Clips
'Politics Home' have
a brief report on Su's visit to
Westminster earlier this week.
Irelands Prime Minister
Enda Kennys visit to
Westminster yesterday was judged
by all to be a great success.
After a quick tour of parts of
the Palace, he was the guest of
honour at a reception in the
Lords hosted by Visit Ireland and
charity CHAMP. Owen Paterson and
Ed Miliband both spoke, but the
surprise star of the evening was
Hi-De-Hi star Su Pollard. As our
picture shows, the panto
favourite was a hit with MPs and
peers. Ms Pollard stayed long
after Mr Kenny had left and
enjoyed the legendary Irish
hospitality. She also brought
along a party whistle that she
blew at opportune moments during
the political speeches, adding a
touch of the surreal to a packed
event.

Sherlock!
Sunday

Press

Journalist
Julie Burchill wrote an article
last week on gender role
reversal, naming famous women she
would re-invent as male legends,
following the news that Lucy Liu
is to play Dr Watson in an
American version of Sherlock
Holmes.
Imagine how many other male
legends mythical,
literary, comic and historical
could be given a new lease
of life merely by having a gender
reassignment.
Julie would have Madonna as
Batman, Miranda Hart as Robin,
Meryl Streep as Popeye, Judi
Dench as King Arthur, Helen
Mirren as Sherlock, and our Su as
his legendary enemy:
And I would find Su Pollard
as his/her arch-nemesis Moriarty
simply irresistible
"Oo eck, I 'ate that 'olmes!
Oo, lummee, I've only gone and
pushed him over them there
Rickenbacker Falls! CRUMBS!"

.West
End Extra: Fringe Theatre Above
The Stag, Looking For New Home
Friday
2nd March, 2012
Press
Clips
One of
Westminsters few fringe
theatres, Above the Stag, is
looking for a new home.
Its current venue, the Stag pub
in Bressenden Place, Victoria, is
set to be knocked down as part of
a plan to regenerate the area.
A chance visit to the pub in
October 2008 gave artistic
director Peter Bull the idea to
transform its under-used function
room into a theatre.
He said it had been a
perfect home for the
stage, adding that he hoped to
hear from nearby pubs with
similar vacant spaces that could
be converted for use by
thespians. The theatre will host
a party on March 8 to give
supporters a chance to say
farewell.
Pictured: Looking for a new
venue: artistic director Peter
Bull, left, with supporters, the
comedy actress and patron Su
Pollard and American director
Christopher Gattelli
