Christmas Special.
One-off festive episode. There
may be plenty of sun, sangria and
Santa, but for Madge it does not
look like being a happy Christmas
as the Garveys come to stay. With
Mel stuck in Marrakech, she has
to organise the Benidorm Palace's
festive spectacular - and the
show's female star has gone
missing. Donald and Jacqueline
check in at the Solana with some
intriguing friends, and it
appears Noreen's male travel
companion is more than he
appears. Su Pollard, Louie Spence
and Brian Murphy guest star, with
Sheila Reid, Siobhan Finneran,
Tim Healy, Steve Pemberton,
Janine Duvitski and Elsie Kelly. Also showing

2010 Christmas Special DVD |
Monday
20th December, 2010 |
Releases |
|
It's still almost a
week until it airs, on Boxing
Day, but numerous online vendors
are already advertising the DVD
release of the Benidorm
2010 Christmas Special.
The DVD is released on 10th
January 2011 and includes a
'Making Of' feature, deleted
scenes and a photo gallery. [NB:
The artwork to the right may not
be the final version)
It's Christmas on the Costa
Blanca and where better to spend
it than in Benidorm with some of
The Solana's best loved regulars
and some very special guests...
There's plenty of tinsel and
turkey, but not much peace and
goodwill in Benidorm when the
Garveys arrive to spend Christmas
with Mel and Madge in their
luxury hilltop villa. Mel is on
business in Marrakech so Madge
takes charge of the Benidorm
Palace Christmas Spectacular, but
talent management was never her
strong point and she's not helped
by handyman Les (Tim Healy)
failing to pick up star act Su
Pollard from the airport.
When Donald and Jacqueline arrive
with a group of 'close personal
friends' including king of the
swingers Marvin (Louie Spence)
and Noreen brings along a new
admirer, Michael is left
wondering if he'll get his
promised white Christmas after
all. |

ANNIE
(Monday until December 31)
De Montfort Hall, Granville Road,
Leicester
Stalwart of musicals, Su Pollard
is as mad as a box of frogs, and
she doesn't care who knows it.
Her comedic career is probably
best defined by character, Peggy
Ollerenshaw, the ditsy
chambermaid in camp comedy Hi de
Hi!, but over the Christmas
period, she'll be starring as
Miss Hannigan in De Montfort
Hall's festive production of
Annie.
It's a heart-warming
rags-to-riches story of Annie's
adventures, from Miss Hannigan's
orphanage to the luxurious home
of Oliver Warbucks. And it's got
an oh so memorable score,
including It's A Hard Knock Life,
Easy Street and, of course, the
legendary Tomorrow.

2010/11: Rave Reviews For Su! |
Tuesday
14th December, 2010 |
Theatre |
|
The 2010 UK
tour of Annie has been a
big success. This is the fourth
time Su has played Miss Hannigan
and she has received excellent
reviews on each tour but the
response over the last few months
has been astounding, with Su
receiving some of the best
reviews of her career.
Su Pollard is a
scream as sex-starved drunk Miss
Hannigan, the orphanage mistress
who hates Annie and joins in with
brother Roosters evil
plans. All nervous energy, comedy
legs and big voice. Wirral
News
However the star of the show
without a doubt is Su Pollard.
She enters the stage in flurry of
energy that although hysterical
and full of classic
Su moments is also
poignant and endearing. Seen
Magazine
Now if ever there was someone
born to play a particular role,
it was evident on stage here. Su
Pollard, of Hi-de-Hi fame, was
absolutely fantastic. County
Times
An unqualified blast was Su
Pollard in the role of cruel
orphanage boss Miss Hannigan. Yorkshire
Evening Post
Annies nemesis is
gin-soaked Miss Hannigan, played
with perfect vaudeville-style
comic timing by Su Pollard.
Stumbling across the stage and
belting out Easy Street and
Little Girls with a voice as big
as Ethel Mermans, she was a
delight. Bradford

Mercury: Su Pollard in Annie at
De Montfort Hall |
Saturday
11th December, 2010 |
Interview |
|
A new interview with
Su, from Thursday's 'Leicester
Mercury'. Annie plays a
two week Christmas residency at
De Montfort Hall, Leicester from
20th December.
Su Pollard is writing her
Christmas cards amid a brief
break in the tour of hit musical
Annie, in which she plays drunk,
man-eating, orphanage boss Miss
Hannigan.
Even at home, she's dressed to
the nines in leopard skin peaked
cap and matching shoes, pink
T-shirt set with diamante,
combination of red beads, pearl
necklace and Union Jack necklace.
Then there's the gold brocade
pink waistcoat, blue shorts and
blue and pink socks.
"Just my usual understated
look," she laughs. "I
do wonder if I'll come back as a
twinset and pearls girl, but I
doubt it!"
Interviewing Su is becoming
something of a regular event, but
it's always a pleasure.
It can often feel like actors and
celebrities are going through the
interview motions to publicise
the show in which they are
appearing, but Su is always
brimming with enthusiasm.
"It's great to be doing a
show at Christmas in which part
of the set is a 60ft Christmas
tree."

Nottingham: Su Pollard Backs The
Bid |
Thursday

Press

|
Local star
of stage and screen Su Pollard
has backed Nottingham's World Cup
bid.
The Nottingham-born actress, who
shot to fame with her performance
in TV's sitcom Hi-De-Hi and is
currently touring with stage show
Annie, said that "every
single person in Nottingham
should back the bid."
Su joins a growing list of local
celebrities who have backed the
bid and urged others to do so,
including fashion designer Paul
Smith, boxing champ Carl Froch,
Ashes hero Graeme Swann and golf
star Lee Westwood.
She said: "I left Nottingham
36 years ago but my roots are
there and I always feel very
proud whenever I go back. There's
lots of regeneration going on and
this bid can only enhance what
Nottingham has already done for
itself.
"I think the bid's an
absolutely brilliant idea and
Nottingham is a fabulous place
which deserves to host World Cup
games."
