'Mayhem' in 1985. An earlier version of
the song. 'Silly Little Girls', was also
recorded. Click below to view a larger

The New Romantics: More Info |
21 February, 2012 |
|
|
A
little further information on the Herb
Schulz book that may include rare Toyah
photos.
Thought I'd post a quick update on the
status of Herb Schulz's New Romantics
Photo book, since there has been a lot of
interest about it. So far, the digital
book is 65 pages, might be more or less,
as most of the pages are full picture
spreads and we are working on perfecting
the layout. There are around 85 pictures,
again still a work in progress, maybe
more or less.
The pictures may include: Toyah Willcox,
Steve Strange, Boy George, Siouxsie
Sioux, Marylin, PinkieTessa(tm), Perri
Lister, Barbie Wild , Zandra Rhodes,
Melissa Caplan.
We are making good progress on it though
and I am hoping to see it in the ibook
store sometime in the spring. I will post
more as things progress. In the mean time
you can visit Herb Schulz's website if
you want to get an impression of the
pictures that are going to be in the
book. |

Ten

13 February, 2012 |

Anniversary addict that I
am, it's worth noting that not only is
2012 the 30th anniversary of 'The
Changeling' and the 25th of 'Desire', but
it's also 10 years since these two
"must have" CDs were released:
Toyah's first new music of the
millennium, the awesome 'Little Tears Of
Love' EP, and the double CD reissue of
'Sheep Farming In Barnet' and 'The Blue
Meaning'.

I
Was A Teenage Toyah Fan: 'EEN'
Review |
10 February, 2012 |
|
|
Another
positive review for 'I Was A Teenage
Toyah Fan'. This one from the 'Edinburgh
Evening News' by Liam Rudden.
Elphin-like she bounced around the stage
of the Edinburgh Playhouse, a
flirtatious, grinning, bundle of energy,
belting out tracks from her latest album,
The Changeling.
The year was 1982 and Toyah Willcox was
at the height of her fame, as the packed
3000-seat venue attested. A front row
seat - though nobody sat during the gig -
ensured a great view. Could she really be
so petite? Actually, tiny is a better
word. Memories of that concert came
flooding back the other day when I was
sent a copy of I Was A Teenage Toyah Fan,
by Chris Limb.

Scotsman/Edinburgh Evening News' website,

Newsy Bits & Pieces! |

Toyah was interviewed on Friday Focus on
'Radio Verulam' in mid-December: Toyah
Willcox talks to John about her career in
pop music, acting, writing and as a TV
presenter. He also talks about her
current role in Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs which is playing at the Alban
Arena over the Christmas period. The
interview has recently been added to
their "Listen Again" page.
Listen to the interview, at the 'Radio
Verulam' website, here.
Just had to add a link to this recent
upload to 'You Tube': 'Sphinx' and 'For
You', the Toyah 'Flexipop' songs. It's
still bewildering that these utterly
fantastic songs were given away free with
a, very short lived, music magazine in
1981. Anyway... listen here.

The New Romantics + Rare 80s
Photos |
08 February, 2012 |
|
|
A
rare photo of Toyah from the Herbert
Schulz photo session that was used in
'Stern' magazine in 1981 has recently
surfaced online. It's part of a blog post
announcing a new photo book(let),
'Capturing The New Romantics'.
A new exciting project has come my way.
Its something very different then what I
have been working for the past years but
its something cool. It all started with
my dad, Herbert Schulz. Thing you should
now is my dad was a photographer. He did
a lot of fashion and commercial ads for
magazine and such.
However,
in the late 70's he did something
different, at that time we were living in
London and he invited a bunch of strange
looking folk to his studio to take
pictures of them. Turns out most of the
people did quite well for themselves and
though they have been well documented, my
dad is the only one (I think) that had
the foresight to take pictures of them in
a studio environment with professional
make up artists.
For further info, and to view a
larger version of the above photo, visit
the blog here.
Visit the Herb Schulz website here.
Speaking of rare Toyah photos: A 1981
issue of 'Bravo' magazine was recently
listed on eBay. This included a Toyah
article which itself included an
incredibly rare photo from the famous
'Four From Toyah' session. The photo is
poor quality but I'm adding it here as
it's a real rarity.

The Corn Is
Green: Screen Captures |
03 February, 2012 |
|
|
Screen caps from this week's
airing of The Corn Is Green on
'True Movies'. On watching this again for
the first time in many years it's worth
noting that it is possibly one of Toyah's
finest acting roles. She was only around
20 years old when this was filmed and
Toyah definitely holds her own against
Hollywood legend Katharine Hepburn, with
direction from another legend, George
Cukor. A little known fact is that the
music for this 1978 film was by composer
John Barry. The Corn Is Green
airs again on 'True Movies' next Friday
at 1pm. Please click on the caps for
larger versions.

out and includes a photo of Toyah
alongside news of their "Wall of

will be a fancy framed gallery, perfectly
fitting for the stars that will inhabit
it. Stay tuned...
'Vintage TV' also report that
Christmas/December 2011 was one of their
most successful periods yet. Surely it's
no coincidence that Toyah was omnipresent
on the channel throughout that month?: One

Theres no better welcome
back-to-work in the miserable January
weather than the discovery that Vintage
TV achieved well over one million weekly
viewers over the Christmas period
easily our best Christmas yet! With a
fantastic 2012 schedule lined up,
chock-a-block with brand new interviews
and videos, one million is just the
beginning.

Pointless
Celebrities |
03 February, 2012 |
|
|
Toyah tweeted
yesterday: "Just off to BBC Wood
Lane to record a show". The
show was a celebrity edition of the BBC1
tea time quiz/game show Pointless,
cleverly renamed Pointless
Celebrities. Cheryl Baker of (We
Used To Be) Bucks Fizz was also filming.
(Thanks to PJ)
Pointless is hosted by Alexander
Armstrongand is vaguely similar to Family
Fortunes. Contestants must give answers
to a question which had previously been
asked to one hundred members of the
public, but the public can give as many
answers as they can think of, unlike in
Family Fortunes, where everyone surveyed
only gives one answer. The other major
difference is the the aim - to give
obscure answers rather than popular ones.Update:
Richard Osman, who is the co-presenter on
Pointless, tweeted
today: "So yesterday I arm
wrestled Toyah. She totally called me
out, and threw down the challenge. She is
surprisingly strong. You can see the
whole bout on Celeb Pointless".
This resulted in a conversation with Mike
Bushell from BBC Breakfast about
Toyah, water diving and unusual sports!
