Sleeping
Beauty: The Best Of Worcester
Review
23 December, 2010
Stunning
costumes, anthemic songs and risque jokes
- it has to be panto time and this year's
offering at Malvern Theatres is a real
cracker. Sleeping Beauty received
rapturous applause from the first night
audience and quite rightly so as the
strong cast served up two hours of first
class entertainment.
The plot is thin but that merely gives
the performers more chance to sing, dance
and act up in wacky slapstrick routines.
I particularly enjoyed the mimickry in
the mirror room courtesy of Silly Billy
(Derek Moran) and Nanny Glucose (Charles
Burden).
Alexandra Gottschall and Stephen Whitson
made a delightful royal couple, David
Alcock was a madcap king while Toyah
Willcox and Wendy-Lee Purdy traded
insults as the Bad and Good Fairies
respectively.

Of Worcester' website, here.
Sleeping
Beauty: The Stage Review
21 December, 2010
Panto
plots rarely offer anything new. Jack
goes up the beanstalk to confront
predictably the giant, Cinderella gets
her coach and her Prince, while Aladdin
hits the jackpot with the lamp.
But it is the component parts of a panto
which give it oomph and provide lift-off.
And so it is the combined strengths of
Toyah Willcoxs Bad Fairy and
Charles Burdens superb high fashion
Nanny Glucose which underpin the evening
and deservedly draw audience cheers.
Willcox in sequins and green spot comes
down on a wire to battle it out with her
rival the Good Fairy (Wendy Lee Purdy in
pink). These time-honoured confrontations
are well staged and clearly delight an
audience willing to be entertained.

Stage' website, here.
Sleeping
Beauty: Malvern Gazette Review
21 December, 2010
This
is as near the perfect pantomime as can
be.
What makes it stand out is that primarily
it sticks to the principles of what
traditionalists like to see in a panto,
while at the same time embracing many
modern areas of wizardy with
just the right mixture of up to date
humour.
But a good panto also needs to have the
right mix in its ranks and this cast, led
by Worcestershire-based pop singer Toyah
Willcox, has it in such abundance
its a production that would go down
well with any audience anywhere in the
country.
Its slick, funny and caters for all
ages with plenty of slap-stick
nonsense, romance, mystery and intrigue,
and one or two quite risqué moments! But
all done in the best possible taste...
Toyah is the Bad Fairy, but she looked
and sounded pretty good in her duel with
the also impressive Good Fairy (Wendy-Lee
Purdy) as good, as panto decrees,
eventually won the fight over evil.

more lives at the weekend!
Princess
of Punk Switches On Bidford Christmas
Lights
Actress, singer, songwriter
and former Princess of Punk Toyah Willcox
who brought the warmth of her personality
to a freezing Bidford-on-Avon on Sunday
evening when she performed the
villages Christmas lights

Addressing the crowd gathered in the
packed village square in whats
become a traditional carnival atmosphere
for this occasion, she said she was proud
to be in Bidford and told the children
shed bumped into Father Christmas
on her way there. . . She then asked
everyone to join her in a count-down from
ten to switch on the lights. As soon as
the lights went on there was a
magnificent fireworks display.
After the inevitable autograph-signing
session Ms Willcox returned to the home
of her friends Derek and Carina Goddard
further up Bidford High Street where she
was treated to a fine dinner of home-made

Telegraph: Christmas Songs...
2 December, 2010
Christmas
Songs That Are Real Festive Treats
As
the chilly winter air descends and days
begin to get unpleasantly short, it can
only mean that Christmas is well on the
way. To many the seasonal shop can be a
nightmare, not just for the credit card
meltdown and the hustle and bustle of the
relentless crowds, but mainly on hearing
that far too familiar Christmas song for
the umpteenth time.
Well may I offer three songs that have
local connections, and both hark back to
the more traditional Christmas song, but
for all the right reasons.
Re-Joyce from the Hazel OConnor
Collective has a strong message too, not
just of Christmas, but of life, and the
joy of living for each moment.
The gathered cast included, Hazel
OConnor, Toyah Willcox, Carol
Decker, Pauline Black, Ranking Roger,
Vince Hill, Neville Staple, Bob Brolly,
The Subterraneans and The Bluja Project
plus Moya Brennan, Kid Creole and Neil
O Connor who werent present
on the night but are on the recording
expertly produced by The Grammy award
winning Roger Lomas.
