2007: Hi-de-Hi! Reunion Weekend 2007 - Mini Report |
The Hi-de-Hi! Reunion was a great
success. The final guest list was Jimmy Perry OBE, David Croft OBE, Su,
Jeffrey Holland, Nikki Kelly, David and Tony Webb and costume designer
Mary Husband.
The Marine Suite of the Cliff Hotel
had been converted into the Hawaiian Ballroom for the night by organiser
Tony and Joanne Tarran, and along with a delicious meal everyone had fun
doing the old Maplin's favourites 'Sons of the Sea' and 'Just One More
Chance'.
Prior to the meal Jimmy and David
unveiled a plaque in the foyer of the hotel commemorating it being the
BBC base for the entire filming of the series.
One of the undoubted highlights
was Su's arrival at the meal, bringing Peggy Ollerenshaw alive for the
first time in 20 years.

2007: East Anglian Daily Times - 'Hello campers' - Hi-de-hi stars return |
The stars and creators of one of
Britain's best loved sitcoms converged on East Anglia at the weekend to
say “Hi-de-hi”once more.
During the 1980s the popular BBC
comedy, set at the fictional Maplin's holiday camp in Crimpton on Sea,
attracted huge viewing figures.
Much of the award-winning show was
filmed at the real-life Warners site in Dovercourt, near Harwich, and at
the weekend many of the show's stars - including Jeffrey Holland and Su
Pollard - were on hand to meet die-hard fans and members of the general
public.
The event, which included a gala
dinner on Saturday night and an exhibition and open day on Sunday, was
held at Harwich's Cliff Hotel, where the cast and crew regularly stayed
during filming.
Co-creator David Croft, who along
with creative partner Jimmy Perry penned perennial classics It Ain't Half
Hot Mum and Dad's Army, said it was “lovely” to have returned to the area
and to see how popular the show remained nearly 20 years after it ended.
He said: “They were very happy times
and seeing a lot of these pictures, well you start to remember it all again.
“It was a happy, clean, family show
- unlike the shows today, of course.”
He praised the organisers of the
event who had worked tirelessly for the past year in getting many of the
actors behind the show's most memorable characters to agree to attend.
Probably the most enduring image
of the show remains wannabe yellow-coat Peggy pushing her mop and bucket
from chalet to chalet, dreaming of promotion.
Su Pollard, who played the character
throughout the show's nine series', spent several hours speaking with fans
and signing autographs during Sunday's exhibition and said returning to
Harwich for the first time in many years had been a great experience.
She said: “It is fantastic to be
here. We all created a wonderful, marvellous atmosphere when we were doing
the show.
“It's lovely for them (the visitors)
to see it all and when I look at the pictures I can remember exactly where
we were.”
She recalled times when the cast
and crew would be partying into the early hours, often being helped to
their rooms by the Cliff Hotel's manager, who remains in charge to this
day.
Organiser Tony Tarran said even
though Hi-de-hi had not been offered the continual repeats that have helped
Dad's Army to maintain its popularity, the quality of the 1960s-based show
had helped it live on in fans' memories.
He said: “It's their (the cast and
crew) reunion as well. Jimmy Perry and David Croft got a standing ovation
at the dinner and it's been a fantastic weekend for everyone.”

September
2 2007: Hi-de-Hi! stars to return to Dovercourt |
The
'East Anglian Daily Times' have reported on the forthcoming Hi-de-Hi!
Reunion.
Hi-de-Hi stars to return to Dovercourt
It is 20 years since Dovercourt
took on the role of the fictional Crimpton-on-Sea and the chimes “Hi-de-Hi”
rang out for the last time.
Much of the hit BBC comedy was filmed
at Warners Holiday Park in the town, and now a weekend of celebrations
is set to take place to mark the 20th anniversary of the last episode.
Writers Jimmy Perry and David Croft,
who also penned perennial favourites Dad's Army and It Ain't Half Hot Mum,
are set to join `some of the show's stars next month at the event at the
Cliff Hotel, Marine Parade, organised by life-long Hi-de-Hi fans Tony and
Joanne Tarran.
Mr Tarran said they became fans
of the show as teenagers living in Dovercourt and he was delighted the
award-winning writing team would be attending the event.
He said: “We have invited all the
cast and it's great that writers Jimmy Perry and David Croft will be able
to join us, especially as they are now quite elderly.”
He said “enthusiastic acceptances”
had also been received from stars Su Pollard, Jeffrey Holland, David and
Tony Webb and Linda Regan.
The couple are also asking Dovercourt
residents to dig out any old photos, film footage or memorabilia they have
from the filming of the show for an exhibition.
The series, which ran from 1980
to 1988 on BBC1, won a BAFTA in 1984 for best comedy series and proved
to be a launch pad for several of its stars.
The event, on October 13 and 14,
is in aid of two charities - the restoration fund for Harwich's Electric
Palace Cinema, where one episode was filmed, and the Association of Children's
Hospices.
A special celebration dinner will
be held on the Saturday night while on Sunday the hotel will host an exhibition
featuring screenings of classic clips and displays of memorabilia.
Mr Tarran said: “I had always loved
Perry and Croft classics like Dad's Army and It Ain't Half Hot Mum - they
were popular with all members of the family.
“Hi-de-Hi was particularly interesting
as it was filmed in Dovercourt at the Warners Holiday Camp and we could
see it every day from school.
“It's those special memories of
innocent family TV that we'd like to capture, possibly for the last time,
at this very special dinner.”
Tickets are still available and
for more information about the event call Tony and Joanne on 01255 554372

August 6 2007:
'This is Nottingham' - Star Su's Call on City to Save Theatre |
Hi-de-hi star Su Pollard has thrown
her weight behind the campaign to save the Nottingham Arts Theatre.
The Nottingham actress vowed to
help, saying she "owed it all" to the city centre theatre.
She has demanded a "stay of execution"
and called on the city council to bail out the Hockley centre, which is
set to shut on Sunday.
The crumbling theatre in George
Street, which is a registered charity, needs £65,000 for maintenance
costs to keep it going into its next season.
Su said: "I cannot stress too much
how absolutely disappointed I am with all this.
"It is a more than useful service
that helps with people's development. It gives people a start in life and
helps with their confidence."
She said she tried to call Michael
Williams, director of leisure and community services at the council, to
ask for help.
"I'll keep trying to call him. I
know a lot of groups need money, but this really is part of our heritage.
And £50,000 is nothing - they have millions to spend."
Su also wants those who run the
theatre to be given more time to consider its future.
"I think they should have a stay
of execution, at least," she said.
"We need to get everyone round the
table and start talking.
"I'm willing to come round and have
a chat about things."
Su said she had fond memories of
her time at the theatre.
She joined when she was 11 and stayed
until she turned professional at 23.
While there, she appeared in Oklahoma!,
A Collier's Friday Night by DH Lawrence and pantomimes such as Aladdin.
"I wanted to do nothing but act,
but they made me do a bit of everything - I had to go in the box office
and do the props," said Su.
"I was encouraged to indulge in
every aspect of the theatre.
"They taught you to value committing
yourself to something.
"It really helped me and I owe it
all to the Arts Theatre."
An anonymous pledge of £20,000
has been made but only on the condition the theatre raises the rest of
the cash.
Community groups, dance schools
and theatre enthusiasts have all spoken out against the closure.
But the city council said it could
not see a future for the theatre.

Menopause the Musical |
The
long-running international success Menopause – the Musical, which since
its launch at a tiny theatre in Florida in 2001 has gone on to play in
110 cities in 9 countries, is closing at London’s Shaw Theatre on 14 July.
It opened there officially on 18
April, so will have run for just over three months by the time it closes.
It was originally booking to 26 August.
Menopause – the Musical, by Jeanie
Linders, centres on four women who meet at a lingerie sale and have nothing
in common apart from a black bra—and hot flushes, night sweats, memory
loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex and the day-to-day
challenges of aging parents, children and partners. The show features 25
classic hit songs that have been equipped with new lyrics, including “I
Heard It Through the Grapevine” (“You No Longer See 39”) and the Motown
favourite “My Guy" (“My Thighs.")
The cast comprises Miquel Brown,
