amazing rarely seen early picture
of Toyah. This one dates from
1978/79 and was taken at Toyah's

31st May, 2006: 'East Anglian
Times' - Festival 'one of the
best' despite rain |
Another
report on the 'Bury St Edmunds
Festival' 2006 being the 'best
ever' despite the rain resulting
in Saturday's concert having to
be cancelled. Toyah,
of course, was set to headline
the gig with an expected
turn out of over 2000.
This
article, featuring a small pic of
Toyah, is from Monday's 'East
Anglian Daily Times', and is the
same story as the one published
on the 'EADT24' website on the
29th May (see below).

Tue
30th May, 2006: 'EADT24' - Bury
Festival hailed as 'best ever' |
'EADT24' - Suffolk
and Essex's daily newspaper
online report on the cancellation
of Saturday's concert. To read
the full article please click on
the link below. Organisers
of a burgeoning Suffolk festival
last night described this year's
event as one of the best ever -
despite being forced to cancel
one of the top attractions on
Saturday night.
Bosses
of the Bury St Edmunds Festival
said they had no choice but to
pull the plug on a performance by
top rocker Toyah Willcox just
hours before she was due to
perform.
Festival
chief Nick Wells said heavy rain
on Saturday meant they were
forced to cancel the event - but
described his elation at this
year's festival, which closed
last night with a fireworks
display.
"We
had a gig on Friday and the
ground was a little muddy,"
Mr Wells explained. "But
then we had rain for about five
hours on Saturday and it was just
too dangerous to let people in.
"We
would have had people slipping
and sliding and we just didn't
think it was worth the risk.
Naturally there were some people
who still turned up and one or
two weren't happy, but most knew
we had no choice and Toyah was
fine about it, although
disappointed."

Over at 'You

great Toyah clips to watch,
including the recently added 'I

where the person who uploaded
that got the rare clip without

This appears to have been

also a couple of other
interesting downloads featuring
Toyah. There's The Good Sex
Guide Late from the
mid-1990s, and also Toyah on VH1s
The 100 Greatest Women
from approximately four years
ago, with Toyah commenting on
Kate Bush. Just noticed that
added today is another clip
featuring Toyah, from Jubilee.

Apologies if
Dreamscape is loading slightly
slower than usual. This page is
very image heavy and I have moved
back to my old server
(littletears.co.uk) as already
I've ran out of space at my
personal (50mb ntl)
webspace.
As Dreamscape is now in its
seventh year I'm thinking of
adding an 'About Dreamscape'
page. Nothing too elaborate, just
a straightforward look at how the
site has evolved since I first
started creating it back in 1999.
Lots of other ideas and potential
additions to the site that will,
hopefully, happen over the coming
months. As well as getting the
redesigned Live! and Captures
sections back online, I have tons
to add to the Gallery, Library,
News Archive, Features, etc...
Stay tooned!

Sun
28th May, 2006: 'Bury St Edmunds
Festival' |
Toyah was just
disappointed, that yesterday's
Bury St Edmunds Festival gig was
cancelled, as everyone else. She
arrived at the site and it was
only then that she discovered the
event wasn't taking place. Toyah
contacted various people to try
to help inform fans of the
cancellation. It's a
shame the Festival website
couldn't have updated with the
news and perhaps more people
might not have been
inconvenienced. Surely they must
have known from early yesterday
the gig couldn't go ahead?
I
know of half a dozen people who
requested Festival brochures from
the website and didn't receive
them, so maybe the lack of
information isn't too much of a
surprise.

27th May, 2006: 'St Edmunds
Festival' - Festival reaches
fever pitch |
As this year's Festival
draws to a close, organisers say
they have been thrilled with the
level of support for the event.
They are also praying for
sunshine and this week's pouring
rain stays well away from Bury's
Abbey Gardens, where three
headline events will run this
weekend. Tonight sees the 70s
night featuring Glambusters and
The Funking Barstewards with 80s
night tomorrow with Bleach, Wham!
Duran and Toyah Willcox. The
final night on Sunday features
Pete Long and his Orchestra who
are joined by stars from the West
End's Rat Pack Confidential and a
firework finale. Tickets are
still available. Festival
organiser Nick Wells said:
"It has been absolutely
amazing, the best we've ever
done.
The
number of events which have sold
out and the sheer energy and
feedback have been wonderful.
I've been watching all the
forecasts and am going for the
one that says sunshine."

the original release.
We

are, we are, we are the mods
London
1964: two rival youth cults
emerge - the mods and the rockers
- with explosive consequences.
For Jimmy (Phil Daniels) and his
sharp-suited, pill-popping,
scooter-riding mates, being a mod
is a way of life. It's their
generation.
Together
they head off to Brighton for an
orgy of drugs, thrills and
violent confrontation against the
rockers. Jimmy never wants to
stray from his maxim: "I
don't wanna be like everybody
else, that's why I'm a mod,
see?" Will Jimmy emerge a
hero or will he be disillusioned
by his way of life?

20th May, 2006: 'BBC Collection'
- Peter Pan CD |
The BBC
production of Peter Pan,
with Toyah in the title role, is
to have its first release on CD.
It will be released on 7th August
2006 through BBC Audiobooks. Originally
produced by the BBC Drama Dept
for a BBC Radio 4 "Full-cast
Dramatisation" in 1995,
Toyah, at the time, became the
first female to play the title
role.
The
production was recorded in
September 1995 and first
broadcast on Christmas Eve of the
same year. It also features Ron
Moody, June Whitfield, Roy Hudd
and Chris Emmett.
The
recording has already been issued
twice on cassette as part of the
BBC Radio Collection. This
picture is the cover of the
October 2000 reissue of the
cassette. No artwork for the new
release is available yet.
When
Peter Pan flies into the night
nursery of Wendy, John and
Michael Darling, he takes them on
the journey - and the adventure -
of a lifetime. Mermaids, wolves
and Indians weave their spell in
the magical Never Never Land -
where also lurks the wicked
Captain Hook...Toyah Willcox
stars as Peter Pan, with Ron
Moody as Captain Hook, Roy Hudd
as Smee and June Whitfield as Mrs
Darling in this spectacular BBC
Radio 4 dramatisation, recorded
in Dolby Surround Sound with
stunning sound effects and
specially composed music.

Toyah is

Though, unfortunately, their bio
of her is slightly outdated. Toyah
Willcox: Perhaps best known as
the rebellious punk singer
throughout the 1970s and 1980s,
Toyah's eventful career has
included acting in numerous films
from Derek Jarman's cult Jubilee
to The Who's mod classic
Quadrophenia, TV presenting and
appearances including ITV's I'm a
Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and
as the voice over for BBC's
popular children's programme
Teletubbies. Toyah has also made
her mark on stage in numerous
theatre performances most
recently starring as Calamity
Jane at London's West End
Shaftsbury Theatre.

20th May, 2006: 'Bury Free Press'
- Fanfare for the Festival |
A fanfare trumpeted the
start of the 21st Bury St Edmunds
Festival at the traditional
Beating Retreat ceremony. The pomp
and military splendour of the
Band of the Grenadier Guards
thrilled the thousands of people
who had gathered on the town's
Angel Hill on Friday.
The
stunning display of patriotic
pride gave a spine-tingling start
to festivities. Festival
organiser Nick Wells said:
"It was the best opening
night we have ever had.
"It
was absolutely amazing in terms
of numbers, the weather and sheer
exuberance of everyone
involved."
A
300-strong Bury Township Choir
joined South African big band
Mbawula for an uplifting
performance in the Abbey Gardens.
A
warm evening tempted around 5,000
people to the special concert,
which featured more than 200 Bury
schoolchildren in the choir
formed for the event. Mr Wells
added: "The whole
two-and-a-half months we have
been rehearsing for this have
been absolutely fantastic.
"It has had an extraordinary
effect on everyone
involved."
The
triumphant concert launched two
weeks of world-class comedy,
music, performance and art to
please all tastes. Sell-out
concerts and quirky street
theatre have already drawn the
crowds, with kite festivals,
tours and tastings still in
store.
Toyah
Willcox, John Williams and the
Ukelele Orchestra of Great
Britain are some of the big names
adding weight to the line-up.
Mr
Wells added: "It has been an
amazing start to the Festival and
I hope it continues. "I do
not know how we are going to top
it next year."

14th May, 2006: 'Du Maurier
Festival' - Festival Diary |
Day One:
Perfect weather, perfect setting,
perfect guests: after months of
preparations, over the long
winter months and weeks of
preparation making sure the site
meets all the necessary
licensing, health & safety
and all other bureaucratic
challenges involved in mounting
the Festival, the dream becomes a
reality when the first guests
walk onto the site. The day
begins at 7.20am with a live
interview (on the 'phone, from my
bedroom) with BBC Radio Cornwall.
Then a quick dash to the office,
then to the Festival Village
site. It's laid out like a
mini Agincourt, with peak-topped
tents, catering, bar, box office
and bookshop. In the early
morning sun, the site looks
beautiful, a credit to all those
who have worked so hard in its
construction.
The
day's first speaker is the
charming Sue MacGregor, whose
talk revealed the intelligence
and good humour her former
listeners to the Today programme
and Woman's Hour would expect.
Then followed a Tour-de-Force
performance by Jonathan Miller; a
fascinating, peerless speaker,
who talks with intelligence and
humour. Nowadays, Dr Miller works
abroad mostly. Recently returned
from Venice, soon to go to Japan
and America, can he really be
speaking in a tent in Fowey?!
Yes, he is and he's remarkable.
TV
film crews arrive over lunchtime,
giving the Festival its much
needed publicity
- organised chaos for
an hour or two, but great fun.
Then
the evening show with Toyah
Willcox; a tremendous mix of
anecdotes, songs and slides.
Toyah herself is delightful.
Brimming with energy, she takes
the stage by storm, accompanied
by her guitarist, Chris Wong, the
show combined slides, songs,
anecdotes and a question and
answer session. Great value and
her fans lapped it up!
With
the day over, thoughts turn to
the next day's events. A few
tickets are still available for
all shows: Hugo Vickers,
Christopher Matthew and Al Murray
(check website for details!).
Kate Adie is sold out, but it's
still worth giving the BoxOffice

cancellations - Local Call Rate

Eighties
pop sensation Toyah Willcox who

She
will be thrilling fans with hits
such as It's a Mystery and I Want

Wed
10th May, 2006: 'Rocky Horror
Tribute' - 'The Observer' -
Review |
A Tribute to The
Rocky Horror Show, by Stephanie
Merritt
Never mind the kitchen
sinks, it's all about the
suspenders. An audience poll at
the Royal Court revealed that the
public's favourite show of the
theatre's 50-year history is The
Rocky Horror Show, first
performed upstairs in 1973.
Arriving for the celebrity gala
last week, it's not hard to see
why; audiences for Look Back in
Anger rarely turned out in their
underwear with such gusto. The
Amnesty benefit was not the full
stage show - for that you'll have
to catch the current tour - more
of a romp through the songs with
guest narration by Tony Slattery
, Robin Cousins , Steve Pemberton
, Jamie Theakston and Christopher
Biggins.
But
it opened with a moment of
vintage Rocky history: Richard
O'Brien introducing Patricia
Quinn to sing 'Science Fiction',
just as she did 33 years ago, her
voice and glamour undiminished.
The same is not quite true of
Rayner Bourton; now suavely
middle-aged, it's hard to picture
him as the gleaming muscle-bound
Rocky of the original. Adrian
Edmondson and Toyah Willcox threw
themselves into the roles of Brad
and Magenta, but the show was
rightly stolen by Anthony Head as
Frank N Furter. For those who
knew him best as the
squeaky-clean Blair-alike from
Little Britain, that voice and
that high-octane camp were a
revelation.

Wed
10th May, 2006: 'BBC Open' -
Broadcast Catalogue |
The BBC
Open Catalogue reveals some
interesting facts about Toyah's
past shows and appearances on the
network.
An early acting appearance that,
to my knowledge, doesn't seem to
be documented anywhere, is One
Of These Nights I'm Gonna get An
Early Day. Play by Trevor
Preston with which director Peter
Ellis makes his debut as a
television film maker, with Bryan
Marshall, Michael Gambom &
Toyah Willcox. Aired on 16th
October 1978.
Glitter, Toyah's first TV
appearance, was originally
broadcast on 28th November 1976.
Three Piece Suite, comedy
prog wth three different sketches
each week. The week Toyah
appeared features 'Come in No 1';
'This Situation' & 'All in
the Mind', with Toyah's being
'This Situation'. This was
recorded in March 1977 and aired
the next month, on the 5th April
1977.
Other fascinating factoids
gleened from the catalogue: Toyah
has guested on Through The
Keyhole a total of 17 times
over the years. And on The
Heaven & Earth Show she
has made a staggering 44
appearances.
They list Toyah as appearing on The
Old Grey Whistle Test six
times. Aside from
'Danced'/'Indecision' and Live
At Drury Lane where do the
other four figure?

Toyah Willcox |
The 'Butterflies &

is taken from Toyah's recent
'Independent' article on
astrology: A
Quote with a Twist by Toyah
Willcox:
"I have studied
astrology for the past 20 years
and it has become a part of my
lifestyle. On certain levels, it
is a science. I follow a Moon
diary, a Sun diary and where
Mercury is throughout the
year...Women are likely to be
more brash and full of bravado
when their period falls on a full
moon than when it falls on a new
moon, which signals an
introspective period when they
will be more weepy...Other
planets have a slight effect and
are more subtle. So if Jupiter
comes into my birth house, I know
it may be a good time to go on a
diet, or if Mars is in
retrograde, I may be more
argumentative."

Fri
5th May, 2006: 'Rocky Horror
Tribute' - Pics & Review |
A couple
of stills from a short video clip
from Wednesday's night's show,
taken by Stephen Bennett. Stephen
was one of the lucky winners of
the 21 tickets that were up for
grabs in the Rocky Horror Co/Royal
Court competition. Here is his
overview of the evening:
"Little
Nell arrived about 20 minutes
before the show, and spent ages
taking pictures and chatting to
the rest of the cast Such a
nice lady! I spoke to her briefly
and mentioned how good she was
also in Jubilee and she bubbled:
"Toyah's in the show tonight
playing Magenta!".
The
performance was fantastic and I
felt very lucky to have won a
ticket. Toyah performed in about
5 songs - in very good voice and
obviously enjoying herself
immensly! She played the part of
'Magenta'. Her first song was the
immortal 'Timewarp' singing
alongside Adrian Edmonson (Brad)
and Sophie Lawrence (Janet) and
others. Following songs included
backing on
'Touch-a-touch-a-touch-me' and
'Sweet Transvestite'. And
speaking of - Anthony Head put in
an amazing performance as the
wicked Frank n' Furter - who'd
have thought he had such an
amazing rock voice! Michael Ball
also took this part later in the
show.
The
show was in form of a concert
performance, so not full on
costumes, with parts split
between actors/singers. Toyah
donned her little black tutu
dress and platform boots as seen
on tour last year. Highlights
included: Christopher Biggins
(who appeared in the original
film) making one or two
'cock-ups' all taken in very good
heart with the audience and cast;
Steve Pemberton of League Of
Gentlemen fame putting a more
sinister slant on the narration;
and Little Nell re-creating her
classic 'Timewarp' tap dance in
the finale!
I
managed to speak briefly to Chris
Biggins after the show and
remembered Shoestring to
him which he considers 'the best
episode they ever made'! All in
all it was a fantastic show - and
great to see so many celebs and
original cast members (Richard
O'Brien, Patricia Quinn, Little
Nell) taking part. Other
sightings in the audience
included Sue Johnston (Royle
Family) and Richard 'I don't
believe it!' Wilson."

Thanks to Stephen for the
great review & images above

Last
night, Richard O'Brien started by
introducing the original
producer, Michael
"Chalky" White, in the
stalls. Patricia Quinn, ever
gorgeous like a red-haired
Pre-Raphaelite, dripping with
diamonds, sang the usherette
Magenta's trademark "science
fiction" song.
And
we were away, with a funky band
and cast members down the years
coming, semi-costumed, to the
microphone: Anthony Head as a
brilliant Frank, more sexy than
camp, Christopher Biggins
winningly losing his lines as a
narrator, Toyah Willcox, all
thunder thighs and tutu, as a new
Magenta, Ade Edmondson reprising
his definitive all-at-sea Brad.

OBrien
strode onstage in skintight black
trousers and knee-high boots,
looking like a beneficent alien
visiting from another planet -
one where, to judge by his
preternaturally youthful
appearance at 64, nobody ages. He
introduced the show, and later
performed an energetic encore
alongside Patricia Quinn and
Little Nell, revisiting roles all
three created in 1973. It was an
extraordinary moment of living
theatre history; aptly, the song
was The Timewarp.
In
between, we were treated to
plenty of ragged but rambunctious
fun. Toyah Willcox flashed thighs
and tonsils as a gutsy Magenta,
and narrators included Tony
Slattery, Steve Pemberton and a
comically befuddled Christopher
Biggins, relating the absurd plot
with tongues firmly in
cheeks.

Evening Standard: Rock solid
after 33 years The
story was delegated to no fewer
than six celebrity narrators with
a greater or lesser connection to
the show's history, ranging from
Rayner Bourton - the original
Rocky - to Jamie Theakston.
The
main characters popped onstage to
belt out the songs, then popped
off again. There were two of most
of them. Anthony Head, himself
fast approaching the status of
national treasure, was a
wonderfully spidery, insinuating
Frank N Furter in the first half.
Michael Ball looked alarmingly
like Imelda Marcos in the second.
Ex-boybander
Stephen Gately did one of Brad's
songs; ex-Young One Adrian
Edmondson did the rest. To add to
the confusion there were two
Janets, but only one Riff-Raff
(Kraig Thornber) and one Magenta
(Toyah Willcox). Toyah joined a
host of stars to play Magneta in
the tale of alien Dr Frank N
Furter, who is bent on building
himself a boyfriend.

Thu
4th May, 2006: 'The Independent'
- Toyah Willcox: Astrology
affects us all |
Toyah Willcox:
Astrology affects us all. Keep a
diary and you'll see I have
studied astrology for the past 20
years and it has become a part of
my lifestyle. On certain levels,
it is a science. I follow a Moon
diary, a Sun diary and where
Mercury is throughout the year.
It goes into retrograde three
times a year - the last time was
2 to 25 March - and anyone
working with computers or cars
will experience some kind of
breakdown at these times.
I
would expect Tony Blair and
President George Bush, or any
world leader, would be advised
when Mercury is in retrograde; it
is well known in politics that
these are unwise times to make
agreements.
The
phases of the Moon give tangible
evidence of astrology; people
with mental sensitivities and
depressive people are undoubtedly
affected by the full moon. Women
are likely to be more brash and
full of bravado when their period
falls on a full moon than when it
falls on a new moon, which
signals an introspective period
when they will be more weepy.
Most of the known tsunamis of the
past 100 years have fallen on a
full moon.
Other
planets have a slight effect and
are more subtle. So if Jupiter
comes into my birth house, I know
it may be a good time to go on a
diet, or if Mars is in
retrograde, I may be more
argumentative. Most wars begin or
advance when Mars is in
retrograde.
There
is no way that horoscopes printed
in newspapers can be totally
accurate - they are too general
and sometimes do not help the
reputation of astrology at all.
But I would recommend that anyone
interested in astrology should
keep a diary, noting down moods
and days when they were creative
or non-creative in work, and then
look up the dates when Mercury
was in retrograde and the dates
of the full moon.
It
will be enough to convince them
that astrology has an effect over
us.

3rd May, 2006: 'BBC News' - Rocky
Horror Show stars reuniting |
The
original cast from cult musical
The Rocky Horror Show is to
reunite for a charity performance
marking 50 years of theatre at
London's Royal Court. Richard
O'Brien, who played Riff Raff,
will appear on stage with
Patricia Quinn - now Lady
Stephens - and Nell Campbell as
Magenta and Columbia.
Several
guest stars, including Anthony
Head, Toyah Willcox and
Christopher Biggins, will join
them. The show was voted the
venue's most enjoyable ever piece
of theatre.
A
total of 16,000 of its mailing
list members were invited to take
part in the poll, and Royal Court
management had agreed to stage
the resulting favourite. The
survey was organised to coincide
with the 50th anniversary of the
theatre's first performance, John
Osbourne's Look Back in Anger, on
8 May 1956.
The
Royal Court has gained an
international reputation for its
commitment to finding innovative
work and new talent, and for
promoting young writers, actors
and directors.
Guest
performers confirmed
West End veteran Michael
Ball, comedian Adrian Edmondson
and singer Stephen Gateley are
among the performers confirmed
for the one-off Rocky Horror Show
reunion. Guest narrators will
include broadcaster Jamie
Theakston, former ice skater
Robin Cousins and Steve Pemberton
from cult TV series The League of
Gentlemen.
"Richard
O'Brien kindly agreed to rewrite
certain parts and to go back and
make amendments to give it a
fresh look and a fresh feel, as
well as keeping it in the spirit
of how it was originally
intended," said theatre
spokesman Ewan Thomson.
The
original Rocky Horror Show from
1973 - featuring songs such as
The Time Warp - was adapted into
a film. This was released two
years later and starred Tim Curry
and Susan Sarandon.
'Reflecting
original version'
A second version of the
theatrical show was later created
which used the movie as its
inspiration. However, Mr Thomson
said Wednesday's performance
would "bring it back to the
version of the Rocky Horror when
it was originally done at the
Royal Court 33 years
ago".
He
added the response from
theatregoers had been
overwhelmingly positive and said
"the box office went
bananas" when tickets were
released.
Proceeds
from ticket sales will be shared
between the Royal Court and
Amnesty International.
