IC
Cheshire Online - Lakeside
Classics - Tatton Park |
Saturday 28th
July, 2007..........................................................Press Clips |
The
magnificent heritage site at
Tatton Park will be staging two
spectacular open air events this
weekend. The concerts take place
at the stunning lakeside setting
of Tatton Mere with fantastic
fireworks and first class musical
artists. Tradition has seen these
hugely popular concerts sell out
for the past 10 years. On Sunday,
July 29, the 80s will return to
Tatton Park when a superb line-up
of that decadess pop stars
come together for an evening to
remember.
Bananarama
were the most successful all-girl
act in British music history
until the Spice Girls came along.
The line-up at Tatton features
original members Sara Dallin and
Keren Woodward (now married to
Wham!s Andrew
Ridgely).
The girls
were discovered by former Sex
Pistols Steve Jones and Paul
Cooke. The band went on to have
10 top ten hits which included
their debut It Aint What
You Do Its the Way That You
Do It (No 4) and Really Saying
Something (No 5) both with Terry
Halls Fun Boy Three.
Further hits include Shy Boy (No
4), Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him
Goodbye (No 5), Robert De
Niros Waiting (No 3), Venus
(No 8), Love In The First Degree
(No 3) and I Want You Back (No
5).
Belinda
Carlisle has had incredible
international success both as a
solo artist and as a member of
the Go Gos. Her hits include the
No 1 Heaven Is A Place On Earth,
I Get Weak (No 10), Circle In The
Sand (No 4), Leave A Light On (No
4), We Want The Same Thing (No 6)
and In Too Deep (No 6) to name
but a few. Now living in the
South Of France with her husband
and son, she recently released
her first new album in a decade
and the first sung entirely in
French entitled Voila!.
TPau,
fronted by flame haired Carol
Decker, had a No 1 hit with China
In Your Hands both in the UK and
US. Their other hits include
Heart & Soul (No 4),
Valentine (No 9) and the top 20
single Secret Garden and live
favourite Sex Talk. Carol Decker
was most recently seen as a
contestant and mentor on BBC
1s primetime TV show Just
The Two Of Us hosted by Vernon
Kaye and Tess Daly.
In 2006
she also took part in the
primetime ITV show Hit Me Baby
One More Time in which she won
her round and was in the final.
She has also starred in the hit
West End show Mums The Word
alongside Patsy Palmer, Imogen
Stubbs and Jennie Éclair.
Nick
Heyward is the enigmatic former
front man with 80s band Haircut
100 who had hits including
Fantastic Day, Favourite Shirt,
Love Plus One and Nobodys
Fool plus solo hits Whistle Down
The Wind, Take That Situation and
Blue Hat For A Blue Day.
Toyah,
with her unique style and look,
made a massive impact in the 80s
with her hits Its A Mystery
(No 4), I Wanna Be Free (No 8)
and Thunder In The Mountains (No
4). She won Best British Female
artist at the 1982 Rock & Pop
Awards (now called The
Brits).
She has
subsequently had an equally
successful acting and presenting
career, with many stage and
screen roles to her credit.
Glasgow
born Clare Grogan found fame as
the lead vocalist in the band
Altered Images which spawned
seven top ten hit singles
including Happy Birthday (No 2),
I Could Be Happy (No 7) and See
Those Eyes (No 11). Prior to
forming the band she was picked
to star in the cult classic
Gregorys Girl alongside
John Gordon Sinclair. She was
recently seen back on the big
screen playing the lead role of
Sandra in the independent British
film, The Penalty King, also
starring Nick Bartlett and Sam
Beckinsale. As an actress she has
also had major roles in the cult
show Red Dwarf, Bafta award
winning show Father Ted and
Eastenders where she remained for
eight months.

of 10 people or more qualify for
a £2 discount per ticket.

Thousands

This year organisers have brought

Conducted
by John Wilson, highlights from
the Halle programme will include
music from Tchaikovsky's Romeo
and Juliet, Elgar's Enigma
Variations, Khachaturian's
Spartacus, Leonard Bernstein's
Candide and Richard Rodgers'

The
performances will conclude with
the ever-popular pyrotechnics
display.

Dreamscape: New
Beginnings |
Sunday 22nd July,
2007................................................................Internet |
Welcome to
Dreamscape V4. Not too radically
different from V3 but some
changes I hope you like. I've
retained the best elements from
previous designs and, hopefully,
improved the site with the
alterations. Not everthing is in
place as yet but should be soon.
July has been a busy month and
I've tried to catch up with
everything that's happened in
Toyahland. The 'Gallery' will
now be the place to also browse
Toyah Screen Captures from past
and present, as well as numerous
pictures from Toyah's astonishing
30 year career. 'Superfeature'
will concentrate on a specific
era or release from that career,
with a tribute to the 1982 album
'The Changeling' coming soon!
The 'Downloads' have
been removed completely and the
'Forum' now exists seperately.
The new font being used (for this
main page and subsequent updates)
is Arial. Most PCs have
this already but if you don't
please install it to enjoy
Dreamscape the way it should be.
Don't forget the 'News Archive'
has seven-and-a-half years of
Toyah news to browse, and there's
a 'Library' full of Toyah
interviews, articles, reviews and
news clippings.

The Stoke

Dayle |
Sunday 22nd
July, 2007..........................................................News Clips |
Toyah has paid
tribute to Dayle Heath, who died
recently, in 'The Stoke
Sentinel': Dayle, who grew
up in Mill Hill and attended
Haywood High School, was a
familiar face to drinkers at The
Club (in Stoke).
Tributes have
been posted on The Club's website
from around the world following
news of Dayle's death.
Singer Toyah
Willcox, who met Dayle at The
Club, wrote: "Dear Dayle,
one of the most beautiful and
life loving boys I have ever met.
"My heart
breaks to think of the last
week."
Rest In Peace,

Maidenhead
Advertiser - Henley Festival
Review |
Sunday 22nd
July, 2007...........................................................Press Clips |
The final
evening of Henley Festival
80s Party Night celebrated
the 25th anniversary of the event
by featuring three major stars
from its early years. Afternoon storms had
not affected the venue, and there
was a fabulous collection of
outfits to be seen among the
festival-goers.
Toyah bounded onto
the stage first, giving a high
energy performance of her hits
such as It's a Mystery and Echo
Beach, instantly creating a party
mood.
Belinda Carlisle
followed on with a slightly
quieter set of past successes
which gained enthusiastic
audience participation,
particularly for the finale
Heaven is a Place on Earth.
Nick Heyward
completed the trio, but
unfortunately lost some of the
momentum of the show by talking
to the band about their star
signs and not having such a
popular choice of songs. However
his last one Fantastic Day did
get everyone singing.

Guardian
Unlimited: A Right Royal Knees Up |
Sunday 22nd
July, 2007..........................................................Press Clips |
A right royal
knees-up In 1977, Derek Jarman
enlisted a bunch of unknowns for
his dystopian satire, Jubilee.
Stuart Jeffries tells the story
of the film that captured the
nihilism of punk like nothing
else. Thirty years on,
many of the film's leading
participants are dead (Jarman in
1994, actor Ian Charleson, the
future star of Chariots of Fire,
who played one of those
loose-limbed sex objects, in
1990). Some are uncontactable
(Jordan was last heard of living
in Seaford, Sussex), and others
are making porn (Jubilee's stills
photographer Jean-Marc Prouveur's
last film was Fuck Fever). One,
Toyah Willcox, is cherished by a
pre-verbal demographic for
recording voiceovers for
Teletubbies.
"For me,
working on Jubilee was an
extraordinary rite of
passage," says Willcox.
"I was introduced to Derek
through Ian Charleson when we
were both working at the National
Theatre, and I was asked to go
round to Derek's flat. I was a
19-year-old public schoolgirl
from Birmingham and I knew
nothing about homosexuality or
politics. But when I got to his
flat, Derek's lover, a beautiful
French boy called Yves, was
wandering around naked. Derek was
completely sexually liberated. He
asked me if I wanted tea. There
was a script and the film may
have been called The Royal
Family. I asked, 'What part do
you want me to play?' He said:
'You'll be Mad, the pyromaniac.'
"A few weeks
later he got in touch and said:
'I'm afraid I've had to write you
out of the script because we
can't afford to have your
character.' Then he got some more
money and it was back on again.
It was all hand to mouth,
stop-start. Anyway, I did appear
in the film, thanks to Derek: I
think he had given up his own fee
to ensure I survived." The
stars of the film were hardly
well remunerated. Adam Ant
reckons he got paid £40 for his
performance as the Kid, a
Candide-like pop star lured into
Borgia Gins' cynical pop world.
"A lot of it
was filmed in his studio on the
Thames," recalls Willcox. It
was very open, naked people
wandering around. What I became
really taken with was Derek's
kindness to everyone. I don't
think I've ever before come
across unconditional love and how
powerful that can be. All of us
would have done anything for him
in the film. I found myself
making a film which was a bit
like being in a party."

alongside Warwick Davis, who
played Flitwick, of Harry Potter
fame, which was partly filmed at
Alnwick Castle.
And she says she is
looking forward to taking to the
stage with Midge Urne, Go West,
ABC, T'Pau and Berlinda Carlisle,
who she says are like
'Family'.
"It's going to
be great," she enthused.
"We are like family, we've
known each other for years, and
when we get together we are
terrible gossips. We always said,
in the 80s people got expelled to
my music, fell in love to Belinda
Carlisle and divorced to Go
West."
Fans of her music
are in for a treat, as Toyah
promises to belt out all the
hits, like It's a Mystery and I
Want to be Free. She can't decide
which number from her extensive
musical career she would pick out
her favourite, saying, "It
will be all my hit songs, and I
try to inject enthusiasm and love
into everything I do."
And she is also soon
to make an appearance on the
small screen, alongside
naturalist David Attenbrough, in
a series on Britain's
disappearing wildlife. Saving
Planet Earth will hit our screens
on June 28, and Toyah admits she
was shocked by what the programme
uncovered.
She said: "I am
a fan of anything natural, and
that is how that came about. I
was really shocked by the sort of
animals that are in danger of
becoming extinct, like Salmon and
Swans because they are loosing
their natural
habitat."
Toyah is no stranger
to TV, also presenting a show the
the Foreign Property Channel, and
says she has invested wisely in
property abroad herself, and also
runs a gameshow company,
Eccentric Games.
"I really enjoy
investment, I think women are
good at it," she said. She
spends hours online managing her
bussinesses but confesses she
hasn't quite got the hang of web
phenomenon MySpace.
"Some fans came
up to me after a gig and said
'You don't even know where your
MySpace page is, do you?"
she reveals, "I am terrible
at MySpace."

Magic Of The Eighties Reviews |
Sunday 22nd
July, 2007..........................................................Press Clips |
Two reviews of the
'Magic Of The Eighties' concert
at Harewood House in Leeds, which
took place on Saturday 30th
June.
The York
Press: Review: The Magic of the
Eighties, Harewood House:
Here and
Now summer shows are touring
across Britain with a variety of
eighties groups and Saturday saw
the tour arrive at Harewood
House, near Leeds.
The evening started
with rain and more rain. The
snaking queue across the fields
was a colourful mass of
umbrellas. Spirits were high and
people were laden down with
picnics and chairs, the majority
of them wearing colourful wellies
from blues and greens to
outrageous animal prints and
spots and stripes.
Once settled in the
muddy arena the audience, which
consisted of all age groups,
happily chatted, ate and drank
while listening to music provided
by a radio station.
High in the changing
night sky, red kites circled
above the arena and, closer to
the revellers' feet, ducks
waddled about happily eating
scraps of food thrown to
them.
The show started
with Toyah Willcox (who from 1980
to 1987 had 13 Top 40 hit
singles) receiving a warm
welcome. Among her songs, she
sang the famous its A Mystery,
which every one cheered loudly at
and Sweet Child Of Mine, with
everyone joining in.
By now the rain had
stopped and Limahl, lead singer
of Kajagoogoo, appeared looking
trim and smart in a pale blue
suit. Among his repertoire was
the No1 hit Too Shy and the
famous soundtrack from the film
Neverending Story.
Next on stage was
Midge Ure, casually wearing a
kagool, opening with his first
hit, If I Was, followed by his
hit with Ultravox, the classic
Vienna, which received loud
well-deserved applause.
Then, could things
get better? Paul Young opened
with Come Back And Stay and among
others the famous Sensa Una Donna
and Every Time You Go Away.
Sets from Go West,
Belinda Carlisle and ABC helped
to make it an unforgettable
night.

Yorkshire Evening
Post: We do love the Eighties!:
Enduring
popstars proved they had not lost
any of their shine with a
dazzling display in Leeds this
weekend.
Household names
including Toyah, Midge Ure and
Paul Young had almost 4,000
concert-goers on their feet
during the Magic of the Eighties
show at Harewood House. The
YEP-sponsored event went down a
storm especially since the
real storm predicted for Saturday
evening never arrived.
"Everyone seemed to have a
really good time," said
Keith Louch, of IML Concerts.
"We were apprehensive but as
it turned out there were only a
few drops of rain."
The 3,800 music
lovers gathered at the historic
estate, with wellies and walking
boots asfootwear and as grey
storm clouds threatened overhead,
former spikey punk Toyah kicked
off proceedings with It's A
Mystery and I Want To Be Free,
plus a re-working of Guns N'
Roses classic Sweet Child of
Mine. Her upbeat performance had
the crowd of their feet,
including those who had pitched
up gazebos far back at the top of
the hill to enjoy the show.
Next up was
Wigan-born Limahl, who introduced
himself with: "Do you feel
as good as I look? Let's go back
to 1983." Limahl
whose stage name is an anagram of
his surname Hamill put in
a polished performance that
included the number one hit Too
Shy by his former band Kajagoogo,
and his solo hit NeverEnding
Story.
The 48-year-old also
treated the crowd to a rendition
of Rio by Duran Duran.
Midge Ure,
who has been demonstrating his
culinary skills by reaching the
final of TV's Celebrity
Masterchef, cooked up a stir with
a spot-on performance of Vienna.
The audience, who joined in
enthusiastically with the chorus,
then settled down to Dancing With
Tears In My Eyes before soulful
crooner Paul Young took to the
stage. His set included three 80s
classics: Come Back and Stay,
Everytime You Go Away and Senza
una donna.
Two-piece band Go
West also had the crowd up on its
feet with Don't Look Down, Call
Me, We Close Our Eyes and The
King of Wishful Thinking. The
blast from the past continued
with Belinda Carlise. By now, the
crowd's singalong was in full
flow, as the lyrics to I Get
Weak, Circle in the Sand and
Heaven is a Place on Earth came
flooding back.
To round off the
show, Sheffield-formed New
Romantics ABC took to the stage.
Splendid in his silver suit,
singer Martin Fry rolled back the
years with Poison Arrow, How to
be a Millionaire, All of My Heart
and When Smokey Sings. With the
final song, The Look of Love the
show was brought to a close with
a spectacular fireworks
display.
While critics may
have dubbed it "the decade
that taste forgot", those
who defied the weather forecasts
were reminded that the 80s was
also a time of classic
crowd-pleasers guaranteed to have
you up and dancing. Even in your
wellies.

Daily Express -
Celebrities in Danger from 10,000
Stalkers |
Sunday 22nd
July, 2007..........................................................Press Clips |
I'm not sure it's a
good idea reproducing this
article here, on a
"fan" site, but Toyah
gets a mention so it may be of
interest to some visitors: An elite police
squad set up to tackle celebrity
stalkers has been deluged with
work as celebrities fear
another John Lennon-style
tragedy.
The team was quietly
set up as a pilot scheme in
October last year to identify
mentally ill people
who pose a threat to high-profile
figures.
New figures show the
squad has taken on 168
cases in its first eight
months.
Officers from the
fixated threat assessment
centre have already
identified seven men and two
women who were so disturbed they
have been sectioned under the
Mental Health Act and detained in
secure hospitals.
They are also
trawling through files on 10,000
individuals who are thought to
pose a possible threat to
well-known public figures.
Tory MP and security
expert Patrick Mercer said police
were right to take pre-emptive
action against the growing menace
posed by stalkers. He said:
It is extremely frightening
for victims.
Stalking has become
a major problem for hundreds of
prominent public figures in
recent years.
Pop stars Madonna
and Toyah Willcox, newsreaders
Fiona Bruce and Emily Maitlis and
Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan
are among the many who have
suffered from serious harrassment
by stalkers.
Although it is less
well publicised, many senior
politicians and some members
of the Royal Family also suffer
harrassment from
fixated
individuals.
The new police squad
was set up partly in response to
the fatal stabbing of Swedish
Foreign Minister Anna Lindh by a
stalker in 2003.
Dai Davies, a former
head of royal protection, said
stalkers had long posed a serious
problem to members of the Royal
Family.
Publicist Max
Clifford, who represents dozens
of leading stars, said the
stalking stories reported in the
media were just the tip of the
iceberg.
These
arent fans who just want to
have their picture taken; these
are people who get completely
obsessed. People think back
to John Lennon and they get very
worried.
The new police
squad, based at Scotland Yard,
comprises nine officers and five
mental health professionals,
including a Cracker-style
forensic psychiatrist.
Civil liberties
campaigners have warned the
powers could be abused to lock up
potential terrorist suspects
without trial.

Earth |

July, 2007.............................................................Press Clips |
Toyah Willcox
visits the West Midlands in
search of Salmon Salmon in the West
Midlands may become extinct
because of pollution
Singer Toyah Willcox
goes in search of some unlikely
creatures in some unlikely places
for Saving Planet Earth. The
programme follows the
reintroduction of salmon into the
River Dove.
Thousands of salmon
used to arrive in the river Dove
every year, via the Atlantic, the
Humber and the Trent. By the
1930s, industrial,
agricultural and domestic
pollution had effectively wiped
out salmon from the Trent. Since
then industry improved its
pollution record and the water
companies have invested in
cleaning up our waste.
The breeding
population has declined and
Salmon are becoming extinct. Now
the Trent River Trust is
releasing thousands of young fish
at the head of the river in the
hope that one day they will
return to breed.
Toyah talks to David
Hunter of the Trent River Trust
who explains that, although today
they will put in 17000 fish, they
will be thrilled if one in a
hundred returns as an
adult.
There is also an
online clip of Toyah, and the
salmon, at the BBC site.
