South
Yorkshire's 'The Star' have a new
video interview with Toyah at
their website, along with a
report on the forthcoming panto.
Snow White opens at the Sheffield
Lyceum on 11th December.
Sheffield's panto stars are
getting ready to hit the stage -
oh yes they are!
Famous names including Eighties
pop star Toyah Willcox are busy
preparing for their roles in the
Lyceum Theatre's production of
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,
which starts on Friday, December
11.
And they have plenty of lines to
learn, as this year's performance
features comedy, singing, dancing
and audience participation, as
well as lavish sets and costumes.
Toyah is taking top billing as
the evil Wicked Queen, comedian
Damian Williams is playing Nurse
Nellie following his role as
Widow Twankey in Aladdin last
year, and BBC Radio Sheffield
host Toby Foster is making his
panto debut as Muddles the Court
Jester.
There will also be an extra
treat, as local funnyman Bobby
Knutt makes a virtual appearance
as the Man In The Mirror.
Tickets for the show, which runs
until January 10, are on sale now
priced £12 to £20. To book log

Check out Robert
Fripp's latest online diary entry
here for photos of the
day a variety of Vampire Rockers
went to lunch at Toyah and
Robert's house.
The final two Vampires
Rock dates for November 2009
are tonight at Preston Guild Hall
and Southport Theatre on Sunday.
December 1st to 5th sees five
consecutive nights of shows, the

nights, both sold out), Buxton,
Skegness and Salisbury. Toyah and
Vampires Rock hit the
road again in late January/early
February 2010 for a run of 10
shows across the UK, including
Southampton, Perth, Darlington,
Belfast and Yeovil.
Three very
rare pictures from late
70's/early 80's classic Toyah
photo sessions have recently
surfaced online. A cropped
version of photo one was used on
the cover of 'Record Mirror' in
1978, and a variation of photo
two was used on 'The Telegraph'
magazine cover in December 1980.
Photo three is from 1979.

music by Never The Bride, and
Toyah, is included in the
soundtrack to Three To Tango:
Three Never The Bride songs, The

Nikki and Catherine attended the

great fun to meet and included a
host of well known British
actors.
We
already know we have a Toyah
article/interview to look forward
to in a forthcoming issue of
'Record Collector' magazine, and
there is now a possibility that
there may be an article on The
Humans in a future issue of
'Classic Rock' magazine too.
Steve Steinman has
confirmed, over the weekend, on
the Vampires Rock forum
that Toyah won't be taking part
in the Autumn 2010 tour.
Toyah's guest appearance

A new
interview with Toyah, plus a
great new photo to accompany it,
published in today's 'Buxton
Advertiser':
Queen of punk Toyah Willcox has
become queen of the vampires for
her latest musical venture.
But although the
show is all about the undead,
Toyah, who has been in the
limelight for three decades,
said: "I love life
it's very eclectic but always
seems to fall into place."
An accomplished singer, actress,
writer and presenter, Toyah's
career has been successful and
diverse.
In fact, some may say it's been
more colourful than punk hair...
Next month, she's starring in
Vampires Rock at Buxton Opera
House. In the fang-tastic musical
set in New York in 2030, Toyah
plays the Devil Queen who's
married to the charismatic yet
demonic Baron Von Rockula.
She'd better watch out though
because he's on the
lookout for new blood.
Throughout the highly
entertaining and tongue-in-cheek
show, there's notable rock
anthems by legends including
AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi,
Guns 'n' Roses, Meat Loaf and
Queen.
Toyah says: "If you like
classic rock, you'll love the
show. There's a stunning band and
beautiful dancers and the
stage looks great."
Read the full interview online at
the 'Buxton Advertiser' website here.
Vampires
Rock played Leamington Spa
Royal Centre on Wednesday and the
Victoria Theatre, Halifax last
night. The next shows are Sunday
night at the Princess Theatre,
Torquay and Monday at Truro Hall
for Cornwall.
It has now been
confirmed that there will be a
new look Vampires Rock
website at the end of the year,
as well as a new online store. A
new Vampires Rock poster
has recently been revealed, this
doesn't feature Toyah, adding
fuel to the rumour that she won't
be part of the Autumn 2010 tour,
though please remember this is
just a rumour for now.
.Buy
Association - Toyah's French
Property Success
A new
article/interview with Toyah,
from 'Buy Association', about her
French homes.
Toyah Willcox can easily be said
to have lived her life
from her early training as an
actor, through the
anti-establishment image she had
as a punk rocker (an image from
which she has now stepped away)
to TV presenting, writing, an
appearance on Im a
Celebrity Get Me Out Of
Here! and a slot as a guest
panelist on Loose Women. Toyah is
currently back on stage and
touring a production of the
musical Vampires Rock.
In between appearances on stage,
I managed to catch up with Toyah
to have a quick chat about her
overseas property ventures.
What is clear is that Toyah
hasnt gone into any of the
property investments she has made
in the UK or overseas with her
eyes closed. What comes across is
a sense of purpose in all of the
properties she has bought
there appears to be a clear plan
of what the property is there
for, and why it has been added to
her portfolio. This is an
approach which allows her to
become attached to the properties
bought for herself, and not to
the investment properties.

'Buy Association' here.

.Formby Times
- Toyah Stars in Vampires Rock at
Southport Theatre
A new
interview with Toyah, published
in today's 'Formby Times'. Toyah
and Vampires Rock play the
Southport Theatre on Sunday 29th
November:
Toyah Willcox is one of those
celebrities that are hard to
categorise.
Is she a singer? An actress? A
presenter?
Shes certainly done it all
and done so much that even she
cant pinpoint where it all
began.
I think I started in acting
but I honestly cant
remember, she says. I
left school and just went
straight into performing, it was
something I always wanted to do.
I would say Im an actress
and singer but Ive really
always combined the two.
I view myself as a creative
person, I write music and
Im generally very busy.
Id say Im definitely
a workaholic, Im not
interested in anything
else.
Toyahs career spans over 30
years, but the 51-year-old shows
no sign of slowing down. She is
currently on tour in Steve
Steinmans Vampires Rock,
which comes to the Southport
Theatre at the end of the month,
and continues to perform with her
band The Humans, as well as
record her own material.
She says: I find what I do
a pure joy and dont feel
like its work. Im
always in a different town or
country and its never a
problem for me. I feel very lucky
that I get paid to do what I do.
I often think it would be nice to
be in a soap so that I could know
what Im going to be doing
every day, because the only thing
that winds me up is being told
last minute that I have to be
somewhere else in the world the
next day.
Toyah arguably rode to notoriety
as a pop singer on the back of
the punk revolution. But with
many of that generation settling
down into middle age cosiness,
has she retained any of the
anti-establishment values her
career was forged upon?
A big part of that
generation was the fact that we
didnt compromise, so in
that sense I still have that
today, she says.

'Formby Times' here. This has also been
published by the 'Southport
Visiter'. View that here.

Willcox, actress Zaraah Abrahams
and presenter Barney Harwood,
captained by rugby legend Austin
Healey and EastEnders' Joe Swash.

Hole In The Wall : BBC1 -
Saturday 28th November : 5.30pm
A great
review of 'We Are The Humans' by
The Humans, by Ian Abrahams at
his 'Spacerock Reviews' blog. Ian
has interviewed Toyah for a
future issue of 'Record
Collector' magazine:
A couple of weeks back I had the
pleasure of half an hours
telephone interview with Toyah
Willcox for a forthcoming
magazine feature, which gave me
the opportunity to ramble around
Toyahs classic output and
talk to her about her current
project, the vocals and bass
focused trio The Humans.
The concept of The Humans is
essentially to mesh bass
frequencies with vocals to
achieve something both pure in
sound and which pushes boundaries
in its goal of deconstructing the
traditional pop music format
their cover of These
Boots... is a manifesto to
this respect youd have to
conclude. Its sharp, snappy
and sexy, has a vitality all of
its own and a delicious sense of
irony in its sparseness that
takes it far away from the
original. Its available for
digital download and though
its not on my copy of the
accompanying album, I do
understand it is now included
with subsequent versions.
Screen
captures from Toyah's guest
appearance on last Friday's The

Smart, former lead singer and
bassist of the band M.I.5,
reminisces about the band and
Toyah at his website, and also
includes a highly rare polaroid
of Toyah, taken at Mayhem in
1980.
Keith says: "The band were
based in South London. We
rehearsed at Toyah's place in
Battersea. Toyah Willcox was a
really interesting person. She
had the most amazing hair. There
was a documentary being filmed
about her one of the times we
were there. She also appeared on
the cover of the Radio Times and
in the film Quadrophenia...
M.I.5. were rehearsing at Toyah's
once a week. There was a real
buzz about her and fans started
to gather outside... The Polaroid
photograph of Toyah was taken by
the Radio Times photographer. I
assume he was checking the
lighting and composition of the
picture. Toyah gave it to
me."
Keith also includes the famous
party invite to Mayhem where
filming took place and was
subsequently included in the 1980
ATV documentary TOYAH.

never on the cover of 'Radio
Times' but around this time she
was the cover star of 'The

astrologer and Shakespearean

overshooting the present, she
finds herself in a land of chaos
and decay in which the punks have
inherited the Earth. Made in the
year of Elizabeth II's silver

Nell Campbell, Toyah Willcox,

Ian Charleson.
Toyah's 'It's A
Mystery' and 'I Want To Be Free',
both from 1981, are included on
iTunes Essentials digital
compilation, 'New Romantic',
released for download at the end
of October.
'It's A Mystery' is included in

Toyah is in good company, as the
collection boasts some legendary
New Wave/Romantic hits.
If you had the soul (and flouncy
shirts) of a consumptive
19th-century poet and the musical
circuitry of a 25th-century
android - and you were turning
heads on the streets of Soho
during the early '80s - chances
are you were a New Romantic.
Foppish shirt, powdered facial
white-out, pulsating synth
backdrop... and, of course, a
predilection for extravagant
romanticism. Such were the
trappings of the theatrical, yet
streetwise, artists who created
and defined the New Romantic
movement that turned Top Of The
Pops into a weekly carnivale
during the early '80s.

SHEFFIELD: Snow
White and The Seven Dwarfs
is Sheffield Lyceum's 2010
offering, with a star-studded
cast.
The ever popular Damian Williams
stars as Nurse Nellie, Toyah
Willcox plays the Wicked Witch
and comedian and radio Sheffield
presenter Toby Foster is making
his first steps into the world of
panto as the Dame's son Muddles,
who gets everything wrong.
I caught up with Toby and Toyah
after they posed for the
customary promotional snaps. Said
Toby: "I came to see Aladdin
last year with my kids. I saw
Damian playing the dame and he
was so good at it, I decided I
would like to have a go! There is
nothing finer than making a lot
of kids laugh at Christmas. I
cannot think of a higher calling.
It is a bit odd to be working
with Toyah... when I was 14, she
was the gorgeous girl at the top
of the charts and she is
still gorgeous".
Toyah has been no stranger to
controversy during her 30 year
career, which has seen her top
the charts with arty-punk hits
like It's a Mystery, star in
iconic films like Quadraphenia
and latterly bare her life
in reality TV shows. She is also
now something of a veteran in the
panto world.
She said: "I have played the
Witch Queen about six times and I
love it. I do like to make the
audience hate me."

'Clash' magazine's
December 2009 issue includes a
new article on Quadrophenia.
There is an excerpt from it at

feature includes Mark Wingett quoting Toyah:
Quadrophenia: 30
Years On: Thirty years after its
cinema release, we dissect the
mod classic with the help of
those involved, including its
originator, Pete Townsend.
For three decades, Quadrophenia
has stood as the essential
document of mod culture - the
incendiary movement of the early
Sixties that revolved around
music, fashion, drugs and
scooters. Thirty years after its
release, Clash dons its parka and
delves into the making of a very
British phenomenon.
With an ambiguous ending, rumours
of a sequel to Quadrophenia have
always abounded. If it
happens it will have very little
to do with me, claims
Townshend. Jimmy - in my
mind - never went over the cliff
with the scooter he had stolen
from Ace Face, but I didnt
fancy his chances of survival if
he hung around in Britain. In the
album version I dont even
know if he got off the rock. One
sequel I have heard about begins
with Jimmy in Tangier. Probably
wearing a caftan. Mark
Wingett is at first positive:
If it was working with that
lot again, absolutely. But only
if Franc directs it! Then
reservedly admits:
Its a bit old to do a
sequel thirty years later. Toyah
[Willcox, who played Monkey] said
that if we did do a sequel we
would have call it Septicemia
instead of Quadrophenia.
Wed ride around on zimmers
instead of scooters, he
laughs.
Toyah is interviewed
in the latest issue,
November/December 2009, of 'Your
Sheffield' magazine, in a feature
on Snow White, her panto
for 2009.
There is also a small photo of
Toyah on the cover of the
magazine. The article is also
available to read online at the
'Sheffield First' website.
Get ready to boo and
hiss - Toyah Willcox is coming to
Sheffield to play panto's evil
queen. It's going to be ....
wicked!
Rock star, style icon, actress
and vocal talent Toyah
Willcox has demonstrated her
versatility to great effect over
the past few years. And in her
latest role, as the Wicked Queen
in Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs at the Sheffield Lyceum
Theatre, the former chart-topper
is in her element.
Toyah is now a panto veteran,
having been performing in them
for 17 years her first was
Peter Pan. As an accomplished
actress with film, stage and
television credits behind her,
Toyah loves the fact that panto
gives her a chance to reach out
to a new audience and help them
to discover the joy of live
performance.
She said: Panto is
wonderful and very British. I
love the genre because there is
so much history and culture
around it.
For many children it is the
first time they have been exposed
to live theatre, and we can
transport them away to another
place for a few hours and
hopefully encourage them to want
to see more.
I love the audience
participation part of the show,
especially as Im playing
the wicked witch. All the booing
and hissing is terrific
fun.
Playing the character seven days
a week with two shows on some
days is demanding, but Toyah is
one busy lady. She has also found
the time to release a new Humans
album and fit in some TV work
abroad.
Toyah said: I like to keep
busy. The panto is very demanding
and doing the shows keeps you
fit. I have to protect my voice,
though, and I try to avoid
talking too much between shows!
I still love performing
live and its great that the
audience is still there. The
Rewind Festival is great fun as
Im getting a chance to meet
all the other stars who had hits
in the 80s we were all so
busy in those days I never got to
meet any of them!"
Toyah said: Everyone who
Ive worked with over the
years in panto always gives a 100
per cent you cant
give it any less.
