Dreamscape
- Coming Soon (Part Deux)
- It's almost a blog!!
OK
I admit I got bored,
hence an earlier than
expected update. I hope
everyone had a great
Christmas (yep, I know it
still is
Christmas, but you know
what I mean!) I spent a
chunk of Boxing Day
"tinkering"
trying to sort out the
problems that have
plagued the site through
December. My other
highlight was Doctor
Who - I've read loads
of negative comments
about it but I took it
for what it was, an hour
of escapist Christmas
fun, and loved it. Wasn't
Dervla Kirwan brilliant?
Thanks to everyone who
sent the site, and me,
Christmas emails,
messages and cards.
Anyway, that's enough
about me.
As
mentioned above, two of
Toyah's Christmas
appearances are available
to watch at BBC iPlayer: Ready
Steady Cook, from
Boxing Day, is available
until Friday 2nd January,
and Mastermind,
from 28th December, is
available until Sunday
4th January.
Alternatively both can be
downloaded in higher
quality and kept for 30
days.
Toyah
has been all over the TV
in the last few days, as
well as the above there's
also been The 100
Greatest Christmas
Moments, Quadrophenia,
Minder, Celebrity
Brides Unveiled, and Our
Psychic Family (which
will be repeated again in
the New Year)
January
is set to be a really
busy month for
Dreamscape. We have
screen caps from Ready
Steady Cook, Celebrity
Mastermind, and Celebrity
Brides Unveiled. More
news on Vampires Rock,
the Anchoress DVD,
details about a new
magazine cover for Toyah,
and a video interview
from earlier this month.
As well as all that
there's Dreamscape's
Toyah Top 10 of 2008,
Review of Toyah's year,
and a rundown of what
Toyah will be doing in
2009. Plus anything else
that happens between now
and the next update!
In
the meantime, for anyone
whose sleep pattern has
went a bit squiffy due to
Christmas, Toyah pops up
on Channel 4 early this
morning:
In
Your Dreams : Channel 4 -
Monday 29th December :
3.35am
The
meaning of celebrities'
dreams, beginning with
Toyah Willcox.
Don't
forget there are repeats
of Quadrophenia, Living
With The Dead, Celebrity
Brides Unveiled and Our
Psychic Family airing
over the next week or so,
taking us into 2009 and
beyond.
Here's
another little extra
Christmas treat... An
interesting interview
with Toyah, from 2006,
I've only just
discovered.
Toyah
Willcox, musician and
actress, talks about her
love life, and being a
Taurean.
From
My Spirit Radio, Toyah is
interviewed as part of
their Sex & The
Stars series. She
talks about what she
finds attractive, her
ideal date, life with
Robert, her career and
much more.
Please
to download the interview
directly or on the My
Spirit Radio logo to vist
the site and listen to
the interview. Running
time is just over 15
minutes.
Jade
Wright talks to Toyah
Willcox on her return to
the Liverpool stage as a
wronged vampire queen
Singer,
actress, presenter,
author... its hard
to pigeonhole Toyah
Willcox. In a career
spanning over 30 years
shes had 13 top 40
singles, recorded 20
albums, written two
books, appeared in over
40 stage plays, made 10
feature films and
presented hundreds of
television programmes
from The Good Sex Guide
Late to Songs Of Praise.
Now
shes back on stage
in Liverpool for the
first time in five years,
playing The Devil Queen
in Vampires Rock
Christmas.
I
came up with Calamity
Jane in 2003, she
explains. And I
loved every minute.
Liverpool is very much my
kind of place. Ive
always felt at home.
I
cant wait to come
back. Everyone tells me I
wont recognise it,
but Im sure the
friendliness will still
be there. And Im so
pleased Im just
about squeezing something
in for Capital of Culture
year.
Well,
that's it for 2008. We
are taking a short break
over Christmas. Please
check back in the New
Year for Dreamscape's
Review of Toyah's Year,
screen caps from all of
Toyah's Christmas telly,
and The Toyah Top Ten of
2008. Hmm, I wonder what
will be number one this
year?
See
you all in 2009!

Toyah
was interviewed in
yesterday's 'Sunday
Express' magazine, in a
Christmas feature. It
includes a great festive
Mitchell.
O
come, all ye faithful
The
festive season isn't just
about parties and
presents, even for the
stars. Gillian Rowe talks
to some well-known people
about where they worship
on Christmas Day, and
what the occasion means
to them
Toyah
Willcox:
Each Christmas Eve my
husband Robert and I go
to the midnight carol
service at my local
parish church, Pershore
Abbey, Worcestershire.
I'm normally working over
Christmas, singing at
rock concerts or
appearing in panto, so I
find myself rushing home
from wherever I am to get
to the service on time.
The church is full to the
rafters, with 300 people
or more, and everyone
takes communion.
I
believe in remembering
the Christian values of
Christmas, which for me
are about bringing a
community together and
celebrating the birth of
all children. Also, for
me, Christmas is more
important than the New
Year as a time to look
over what you have
achieved in the previous
12 months.
I
love singing Silent Night
and Away In A Manger. I
first sung them at
school, and we were all
so innocent then. There
was no persecution,
terrorism or religious
hatred when I was growing
up in Birmingham. Of
course, the history of
Christianity, like many
religions, is pepperd
with violence, but for me
the principles of
Christianity are sound. I
think it's important for
children to be taught the
power of prayer, the
importance of community
and compassion. For me a
carol service awakens
this in all children.

Sunday
21st December, 2008................................................4

Christmas
2002, and Toyah, sans
clothes, appeared in the
'Daily Mail'...
WE'VE
ALL DONE A FERN! - How
we persuaded five stars
to pose with naked
honesty as they'd like to
be remembered
TOYAH:
Now a TV presenter and
actress, Toyah, 44,
enjoyed a successful pop
career in the Eighties.
She is now touring in
Calamity Jane. Her vital
statistics are 34C-25-36.
She is 5ft 1in tall and
weighs 7st 10lb. She
says:
I
was a tubby child - by
the age of seven I
weighed 8st - and this
earned me the nickname
'Barrel' at school. I was
only 13 when I started my
first diet. My parents
had obviously been
concerned about my
weight, as neither of
them protested when I
began eating just one
tiny meal a day. I lost
8lb and spent the next
decade on ever more
outrageous diets. I think
I was borderline
anorexic. I was 7st and
spent meals thinking
about the effects of food
on my body rather than
enjoying tastes.
In
my 30s things swung the
other way. I began a
career as a TV presenter,
which led to a sedetary
lifestyle. I also fronted
a holiday programme and
spent months abroad
eating local
dishes.
By
1995 I weighed 10st and
felt terrible. Hitting 40
was a wake-up call: I
started exercising and
gave up dairy products
and alcohol. I look
better now than ever and
I'm happier than I've
ever been.
Oddly,
although I've twice been
nude for film roles, I'm
still self-concious about
showing my body. I
decided to do this
because I wanted to make
an age statement. We've
got to challenge the
Western view that older
women are less
attractive.
NB:
This feature was in
response to TV presenter
Fern Britton posing nude.

This
Christmas is set to be a
dark one and when
Vampires Rock comes to
Liverpool it wont
be such a Silent Night.
Vampires Rock is
culminating its fifty
date tour at the Echo
Arena on 27th December
for a night of musical
comedy and rock
anthems.
I
met up with stars of the
show Toyah Willcox and
Steve Steinman to find
out a little more. Baron
von Rockula (Steve
Steinmann) jilts his wife
in search of a new one
and has his sights set on
Pandora Honey Rosebox.
While the Baron sets out
to woo the young human
girl, his vampire wife is
dead set on making her
life hellish. With the
back drop of iconic rock
anthems, this show is a
visual and audio
spectacular.
Toyah
tells me that this is a
proper rock show
with a collection of rock
songs from Kiss, Bon Jovi
and Billy Idol and
like any good rock show
there is the promise of
pyrotechnics and licks of
flames. Steve tells me
however that the show has
a very British feel to
it, with moments of
British humour and
Carry On he tells
me that this is something
that doesnt
take itself too
seriously and is
meant to be
silly.
As
the show is on only two
days after Christmas
there will also be some
Christmas songs to enjoy
including references to
Christmas hits such as
Whams Last
Christmas. Again Steve
talks about the
tongue in
cheek humour of the
show and tells me that
its always
changing. In the
Liverpool show there will
be references to the city
and The Beatles and that
a lot of his dialogue is
ad-libbed, which Toyah
tells me keeps
[her] on [her]
feet
This
year marks Steves
twentieth year in the
industry and Toyah has
been in the business even
longer. I ask Toyah what
her aims are for her
career, after having a
long career in music, TV,
radio and now theatre.
She tells me that she
likes "doors to be
open" and
"enjoys
variety". After
celebrating her fiftieth
birthday this year she
"is determined to
just have fun this
year". Working with
a band with an average
age of twenty is very
good for your ego,
believing 50 is
sexy, she seems to
be enjoying what she is
doing now and for the
minute is enjoying
rocking and
rolling.
Steve
tells me that he just
wants "this train to
keep going" with the
show moving to London in
the New Year. Time will
tell where it ends
up.
Vampires
Rock is the perfect
antidote to Christmas and
is sure to get you on
your feet in preparations
ready for New Years
celebrations. This is
guaranteed to be a fun
and entertaining evening,
so dust of your air
guitar and book your
tickets now by visiting
www.accliverpool.com or

Box Office on 0844 8000

The Court Of The Crimson
Queen: CD Of The Year
by
Jimi LaLumia
I
must devote some space to
what is, for me, the
event of the year, a new
CD, "In The Court Of
The Crimson Queen"
by UK pop/rock icon
Toyah. She's been married
to King Crimson
founder/guitarist Robert
Fripp since 1985, and the
CD title is a play on
Crimson's 'Court Of the
Crimson King", a
late 60s timepiece. Let's
take a look, track by
track:
SENSATIONAL:
This is a thumping,
rousing call to arms
which showcases all
aspects of Toyah's vocal
stylings and range.
Presenting a positive
message, the tune is
couched in updated 70s
glam riffs, calling to
mind T.Rex and Ziggy-era
Bowie.
LATEX
MESSIAH: This is the
first track that appeared
in the spring of 08, on
You Tube, My Space and
elsewhere, to let the
worldwide faithful know
that Toyah was back, full
of sound and fury. This
enjoyed a great deal of
attention as her first
digital only release
ever, charting on the
itunes rock countdown
several months ago, it's
another radio ready
rocker.
HEAL
OURSELVES: This is
the tender side of
Mrs.Fripp, this sort of
material will be more
apparent when her side
project, The Humans (with
R.E.M.'s current drummer)
appears in 2009,
hopefully. Toyah involves
herself in numerous
positive projects, so
this sounds like a
natural outgrowth.
LESSER
GOD: This is a
forceful vocal and
vibrant track, she is
currently performing it
onstage in the UK as the
Vampire Queen in
"Vampires
Rock", a stage show
in which she is
prominently featured.
(The show is comprised of
rock anthems of the 70s
and 80s, and is going
down a storm everywhere
it plays.
"Vampires" will
hit Vegas in 09, it has
been whispered...)
ANGEL
IN YOU: So many bite
size rockers on this CD,
riffs galore while Toyah
soars. This type of
material is begging for a
proper Toyah tour,
perhaps after she's done
with "Vampires"
(Since her strings of
success in the early 80s,
Toyah has never done a
U.S. gig, amazingly. Her
UK label never managed to
get her stuff released
here, which is a sad loss
for American rock fans.)
LOVE
CRAZY: The
particulars of Toyah's
unique 'love it or hate
it'' vocals are on
display in this tune, and
it is remindful of her
1982 classic album
"The
Changeling", which
was produced by Steve
Lillywhite, of U2 fame.
This sounds like it would
be another live stage
favorite.
BAD
MAN: This is a slower
70s sounding sizzler,
again highlighting
Toyah's dramatic turn on
vocals (which come
through strongly, thanks
to her career in films
and theatre over the
decades), she has been
cited by Evenesence's Amy
as one of her influences,
and you can really hear
that on this track.
HYPERVENTILATE:
Acoustic guitar chords
ring out, another
inspirational life lesson
from this divine diva;
she'd be well received by
hippies based on the
harmonic meanderings on
this particular tune.
COME:
And here's the stadium
rocker, the one that
would bring the crowd to
their feet at the Warped
Tour; this would sound
right at home as one of
the token rockers for
current Top 40 radio.
LEGACY:
An aptly titled
conclusive track,
thoughtful and
insightful, and a fitting
finish to the CD of the
year. Now go find your
copy on itunes, and
enjoy.

Christmas
2001, Toyah placed at a
very healthy number 48 in
Q Magazine's '100
Greatest Women In Music'
Poll.
Sirens!
100 WOMEN WHO ROCK YOUR
WORLD...As Voted By You.
In
Spring, Q asked you to
name those female
singers, songwriters and
all-round movers and
shakers that help float
your musical boat. You
responded with your
customary speed, wit and
enthusiasm. After months
spent knee-deep in e-mail
printouts, bus tickets,
papyrus, lavatory roll
(unused, thank the gods)
and whatever else you
chose to scrawl on, we
proudly deliver your
final verdict.
Toyah
ranked ahead of the likes
of Annie Lennox,
Destiny's Child, Janet
Jackson, Alison Moyet,
Whitney Houston, Cyndi
Lauper, Cher, Tina Turner
& many more. Even
more surprisingly was the
complete omission of most
of her contemporaries,
Kim Wilde, Hazel Oconnor,
Clare Grogan, Danielle
Dax etc.

Open
House with Gloria
Hunniford - Panto
Special
"A
singer, actress, and
presenter who has brought
punk to panto, Toyah
Willcox...
Toyah
enters, greets Gloria,
and slaps her thigh...
Gloria:
You've lost so much
weight!
Toyah:
I've been touring
Calamity Jane for months.
It's made me lean and
mean!
Christopher
Biggins: Her muscles
are incredible
Toyah:
I have to swing from
rafters and I'm thrown
everywhere. It's good.
And that's just in my
dressing room!
Gloria:
It seems odd that someone
who was always very
different...panto seems
to be almost tame.
Toyah:
You think it's tame to
dress like a boy twice a
day, go onstage and
pretend to be male, and
marry a woman at the end
of the show? I think it's
the best thing anyone
could ever do! I know
what you're saying. I
don't think I would ever
have dreamt 20 years ago
that I would have done
panto. Now that I've done
it for 10 years I'm
passionately in love with
it.
Gloria:
You've done it
consecutively for 10
years?
Toyah:
I think I have. I started
off as Peter Pan, and
after I got flown into
every wall of every
theatre in the country by
disreputable flymen...
Once in Wimbledon,
there's a scene where all
four children have to fly
and we all got wrapped
around each other's
wires, and we were just
dangling there. The
curtain had to come down,
the show stopped, and the
ladders out to get us
down.
Gloria:
Now, talking about
the weight loss. Toyah in
the paper last week,
looking really
good.
Gloria
shows the picture in the
Daily Mail.
Toyah:
I think we all would if
we were hanging upside
down!
Gloria:
When they said 'Will
you do a picture nude for
The Mail'...?
Toyah:
I was drinking in a bar
and I overheard the
editor of The Mail
talking about this photo
session, and I said 'Can
I do it?'. I like to do
things that are a
challenge and I got to
the photo session and
thought 'What have I
done?'. It was all men in
the room and I was really
nervous. I hadn't eaten
for about three days to
keep the stomach flat. We
did about 20 polaroids,
the photographer would
let me see what it looked
like, so I trusted him.
He let me see the first
polaroid and he made me
look so good. I looked
better than when I was
20. So I ripped off the
gown and I said 'Come on,
lets go for it!'. He said
'Excuse me Toyah, we
can't show as much as
you're showing'. I was
really rather relaxed by
the time we got
going.
Gloria:
Were all the girls
together?
Toyah:
No. We had a closed set.
We were one after the
other. I heard that Sian
Phillips was very happy
about it. I think Claire
Sweeney was shocked. No
one told her it was a
nude photo shoot. I tell
you why I didn't mind
doing it. For the last
two years I've been
studying life drawing,
where you draw the naked
body...
Gloria:
Oh, that old
excuse?
Toyah:
I've come across every
shape and form you can
find on this planet.
After two hours of
drawing someone, you
don't care whether
they're dressed or not. I
think it helped me.
Gloria:
Was it for charity?
Toyah:
No! I wanted to do it. It
was for me! I feel that,
here we are in our mature
years...
Gloria:
Mature? How old are
you?
Toyah:
I'm 44.
Gloria:
That's not mature, for
goodness sake! Talk to
Christopher about
maturity.
Toyah:
Women are looking really
good and I think we have
to ring our own bell and
say 'Come on!'.
Gloria:
So your husband, Robert
Fripp, will be getting
this photograph up on the
wall, 6 by 6?
Toyah:
I didn't tell him. I told
my mother and she said
'What have you done?'.
But then my husband went
and bought it on Saturday
morning. He came into the
bedroom very quiet. I
said 'Are you cross?' and
he said 'No, it's
gorgeous'.
Gloria:
So he will be getting the
6 by 6 feet for
Christmas?
Toyah:
I'll be giving it
him!
Gloria:
Calamity Jane etc.
Obviously you're doing a
lot of stage work. When
you're doing a musical
like Calamity Jane and
then you switch into
panto. It's quite a
switch isn't it?
Toyah:
It's incredibly
different. Everything
I've learnt about comic
timing I've learnt doing
panto. Normally I'm a
serious actress, with
Shakespeare and new
plays. I wanted to study
comedy and I felt that
the best way to do it was
panto. You're working
with these incredible
dames and they know
everything there is to
know about comedy. I'm
incredibly grateful to
panto for the technique
it teaches. The timing.
Calamity Jane and panto
are very different, but
it meant with Calamity
Jane I'm much braver with
the text. I'm much braver
with delivering lines and
I think I have panto to
thank for that.
Gloria:
Do you have lots of
songs in this?
Toyah:
Calamity Jane? I'm
singing all the
time.
Gloria:
No, panto!
Toyah:
Yes I've got enough
songs. I've got about
five. I wanted to open
with (sings) "I feel
good...da da da...I knew
that I would now".
We open with that. My
leading lady sings
'Fields Of Gold' -
absolutely beautiful. I
get to sing (sings)
"Once in a lifetime,
every man has a
moment". 'We're In
The Money', some good,
traditional songs. The
one thing that transfixes
children is the story
between good and evil. I
think any child, up to
the age of 75, is
transfixed by this story,
and pantomime is so
fantastic for good
overcoming evil. It is
when you can hear a pin
drop, especially with
Aladdin, when he goes
into the cave and thinks
he's lost. They know the
genie is going to appear
but Aladdin doesn't.
There's this icy hush and
I think that's gorgeous,
it's very exciting to
experience that.
Gloria:
When do you open?
Toyah:
We have a public dress
rehearsal next Thursday,
and we open on Friday
13th (December).
Gloria:
Good timing. And one day
off for Christmas?
Toyah:
Yes, but it's enough. You
can eat 10,000 calories
in that day and not worry
about it.
Gloria:
You're fine. You
never know who might ask
you to do another nude
photograph in the New
Year! You're doing
Calamity Jane in the New
Year?
Toyah:
Yes, I'm back into
Calamity. Open in Glasgow
on 18th January and then
on the road right through
till May.
Gloria:
Thank you, Toyah
Willcox.

average Christmas show as
the main cast members
Steve Steinman and Toyah

version of a panto!
Christmas
and 'Silent Night' are
the normal things you
tend to think of at this
time of year, but rock
fans will be jumping for
joy as the Vampires come
to Liverpool Arena and
Convention Centre (ACC)
on Saturday, 27 December
2008...
The
Vampires Rock show is now
a world famous hit
already, but for
Christmas they have added
that extra bite, with
some well known names in
it and a whole lot darker
and a whole lot more fun!
The cast will be rocking
the night away with some
of the best known rock
anthems ever, including
some number 1 Christmas
classics...
If
you do not know what it
is all about then a quick
intro. The show is set in
the year 2030, the undead
are livelier than ever,
especially in club 'Live
and Let Die', where Baron
Von Rockula (Steve
Steinman) and The Devil
Queen (Toyah Willcox)
reside. Sadly for The
Devil Queen, the Baron is
on the look out for a new
bride. In the words of
The Devil Queen "I
would say 'over my dead
body', but then I'm
already dead, aren't
I?!" so the story is
set... Unlike other
musical plays, no two
nights are quite the
same, so if you think you
have seen it, think
again. The Story is told,
as you might have guessed
by now, through the songs
written by some of Rocks
legends including Brian
May 'Queen'; Paul Crook
'Meat Loaf' and Eddie
Ojeda 'Twisted Sister'.
With amazing stage set,
pyrotechnics,
"VERY"
beautiful dancers and of
course Steve Steinman's
famously powerful vocals
and sense of humour, make
sure you'll be on your
feet. So get out your air
guitar and get ready to
rock around the Christmas
Tree this year!
Last
week we got a chance to
interview Toyah and Steve

Former
punk Toyah Willcox puts
her new zest for life
down to country living,
healthy eating and a wise
and loving partner...
Despite
turning 50, actress,
singer and writer Toyah
Willcox has more energy
than ever and attributes
her enthusiasm and zest
for life to her healthy
lifestyle and happy
marriage.
Her
career isnt doing
badly either. After 30
years in showbusiness,
she is strutting her
stuff on tour in the hit
rocknroll
show Steve
Steinmans Vampires
Rock.
She
has just released a CD of
original songs In
The Court Of The Crimson
Queen and plays
Billy Pipers mother
in ITV2s Secret
Diary Of A Call
Girl.
The
woman who first hit the
charts in 1981 with
Its A Mystery says:
Vampires Rock is an
incredibly energetic
show. Im loving
every minute and, as
usual, Im being
strict with my health
regime.
I
have to watch what I eat.
At barely 5ft 1in, every
extra pound shows. In the
past, Ive been just
as guilty as anyone else
of yo-yo dieting. I
dieted constantly from
the ages of 12 to 30.
Then I realised I
didnt want to do it
any more and I simply
stopped.
I
realised self-discipline
and moderation were the
key. I firmly believe
that if you have a
healthy diet and get
enough sleep and exercise
you can ward off most
petty illnesses and look
good at any age.
I
think its very
important to tell young
women to invest in their
future and that means
keeping fit and staying a
sensible weight all their
lives. The problem with
getting into your fifties
is that your hormones
change, which naturally
makes you put on
weight.
Toyah,
who lives in
Worcestershire with her
husband, King Crimson
guitarist and music
producer Robert Fripp,
62, certainly looks
fantastic.
Although
she is happy to admit to
the odd nip and tuck,
its her inner
health and vitality that
make her glow. With her
diary booked up for 2009,
she says her passion for
life is all about feeling
well.
Living
in the country makes me
happy. I love my home and
looking after my parents
who live nearby. I find
nature very soothing. I
need silence just
being alone is incredibly
important to me. I feel
quite mad if I cant
be on my own at some
point in the
day.
Toyahs
lasting marriage is the
most significant
relationship in her life.
It may seem
unconventional as their
careers force Toyah and
Robert apart for many
months. For instance,
right now Robert is
working in Seattle.
They
met in 1985 at a charity
event. Princess Alexandra
introduced them when she
asked the pair to pose
together for a
photograph. They married
a year later.
Toyah
says: What I like
about Robert is that he
is an old-fashioned
gentleman. He is gentle
and very cerebral and I
love that.
He
is very much a soulmate
and my best friend. We
talk endlessly.
Theres no one in
the world Id rather
talk to and we still hold
hands whenever we are out
together.
"We
cant work out why
people laugh at us but
they seem to find it
hysterical to see
middle-aged people
holding hands. I wish we
Brits could be more like
the French.
"What
I love about French men
is that they see the
beauty in every woman,
regardless of age,
says Toyah, who has a
holiday home on the
French Riviera.
Over
the years she has
discovered the things
that make her feel
good.
When
I was young, I used to
feel mentally stodgy and
realised I was drinking
too much alcohol and
eating too many processed
foods and too much red
meat. I only smoked for
six weeks, when I was 14.
I have completely cut out
alcohol, coffee and tea.
As for processed food,
dont even mention
it.
I
eat organic food and very
little wheat. The only
dairy I eat is pro-biotic
yogurt. Everything else
is mainly soya-based and
I eat a lot of pulses
with sunflower and
pumpkin seeds.
"I
take hemp seed oil, cod
liver oil and vitamin E
and I always try to
include in my meals
something like sweet
potatoes as I have a
sweet tooth.
"I
also love lots of herbs
and spices. Food must be
tasty. I drink lots of
water because women often
mistake thirst for
hunger.
Although
she was a vegetarian for
about 25 years, Toyah
eats chicken and fish if
she feels she needs it.
She also boosts her
immune system with bran
flakes and green
tea.
I
eat my evening meal at
six and try to walk at
least three miles a day.
If Im on the road
and near a gym Ill
go along and use the
walking machine. I do
some weightlifting and
thats about it. I
try to keep everything
very low impact because,
as you get older, you
need to protect your
joints. I dont do
any high-impact aerobics
at all now.
I
also avoid wearing high
heels anywhere other than
on stage as thats
asking for trouble.
For
me, life just keeps
getting better and
Im determined to
work until I drop as I
think retirement is
madness.
"Everyone
I know who has made the
decision to retire has
regretted it as we all
need to feel needed. I
also believe its
important to stay
positive.
"The
most important thing is
being happy with what you
have. We do tend to envy
other people, which is
sad. Make the most of
what you have and rejoice
in it.

Happy Christmas to you,

The
Press Association - Soap
fan Toyah wants to be a
baddie
Singer
and actress Toyah Willcox
has revealed she would
consider taking a role in
a soap.
She
explained: "I've
done Doctors. I'm
constantly being
approached by Emmerdale,
and I'm a huge fan. I
admire the production
they do.
"They've
got to put these dramas
on three, four times a
week. I admire everyone
connected with soap and
I'd love to do it - as
long as I can be a
baddie!"
The
veteran star may have to
check her diary, however,
as she's busy with the
touring production of
Vampires Rock.
When
asked whether it was
difficult singing other
people's material instead
of her own songs, Toyah
replied: "No, I've
been in cabaret, I have
done musicals at National
Theatre.
"I'm
used to doing other
people's material. What's
nice is about Vampires
Rock is it's doing
popular music - songs we
all sing in the
bathroom."
The
driving force behind the
stage spectacular, which
weaves a story about
Baron Von Rockula's
search for a new bride
with some of music's
best-loved rock anthems,
is Steve Steinman - and
he's not about to have
any old Tom, Dick or
Harry front his labour of
love.
"I
want someone with
credibility," he
admitted, before talking
about how he had built up
the show over the years.
"We
came up with the idea for
vampires because it's so
much fun, the imagery and
you can do so much with
the script. That was five
years ago and it's gone
from strength to
strength. It's purely the
fans keep coming
back."

Celebrity
Big Brother returns
in January for a sixth

almost every year, there
have been rumbling
rumours of who will be
taking part. Toyah is
never usually mentioned,
due to panto
committments... But this
year with no panto, and
no appearances in Vampires
Rock in January she
couldn't possibly be a
housemate, could she?
Probably not, and the
rumours circulating will
turn out to be as
unfounded as those Doctor

year!

The
100 Greatest Christmas
Moments has aired
every festive season
since it was first
recorded, in 2004. As
detailed below it will be
on again, on More 4, this
Christmas. Toyah
reminisces about Pop
Goes Christmas from
1982.
Toyah
said: "Pop Goes
Christmas was a Christmas
special with all the
favourite, current, pop
artists. And they are
such homely pop artists.
You've got Shakin'
Stevens. There's David
Essex...
"Why
they had me I really do
not know. I come out like
a little gremlin, who
just suddenly appears,
looks like no one else...
Black contact lenses,
that are larger than my
pupils, so I look like
I'm on speed!
"Everyone
on the show got to do two
songs. Everyone got to
perform their current hit
and then chose a
Christmas song to
do."
A
short clip from Toyah's
'I Believe In Father
Christmas' performance
from Pop Goes
Christmas was shown.
Scarborough
Evening News - Toyah
sinks her teeth into new
show!
The
former 80s popster is one
of the stars of Vampires
Rock a new stage
show, which comes to the
Futurist on Friday
December 12 as part of a
national tour and
is aiming to put the
spirits back into
Christmas.
And
the hitmaker who
has three top ten singles
and two top ten albums
under her belt
says it's a show with a
difference.
"It's
not like anything I've
ever been in
before," Toyah
Willcox told the Evening
News. "I don't even
really consider it a
musical it's more like a
rock concert, with four
actors on stage. It's as
loud as a gig and there
are almost as many guitar
breaks.
"I
came into the part with
no expectations and it
was soon evident that it
was going to be like
nothing I'd ever done in
the past.
"In
a way it's like the rock
theatre stuff that I grew
up with the sort
of grand guignol stuff
that Alice Cooper does on
stage or the shows Bowie
did for Ziggy Stardust.
People really do go away
from it saying 'wow'.
"It's
really visual and very
loud and that really
appeals to me."
Of
course Toyah, who got her
big break acting in
Quadrophenia and movies
by Derek Jarman, before
her stint as a post-punk
hitmaker is no stranger
to musical theatre,
having taken the lead in
Cabaret with Wayne Sleep
and also playing the
title role in Calamity
Jane, but she says
nothing had prepared her
for the audience
participation that is
very much a part of
Vampires Rocks.
"Sometimes
you look out into the
crowd and there are more
vampires in the audience
than there are on the
stage! People really like
to join in the fun and
dress up and join in the
songs it's a great
night out," she
said.
Vampires
Rock, which made its
debut in 2004, tells the
tale of Baron Von
Rockula's search for a
new bride. Of course,
before he does so, he has
to get rid of his current
companion the
Devil Queen, who is
played by Toyah!
"It's
great to play an evil
character," said
Steve Steinman, who plays
the Baron and also
devised the show.
"It's just mega
I don't think
anyone really wants to
play the goodie.
"Everybody
loves vampires
every culture's got
stories about them and
the tales date back
thousands of years. And
they tie in really with
rock and roll if
you think about Mick
Jagger and Keith
Richards, there's more
than a touch of vampire
about them!"
As
well as the undead the
show also disinters some
of rock music's all time
classics, including
tracks by Meat Loaf,
Queen, The Rolling
Stones, Suzi Quatro,
AC/DC and Guns N' Roses.
"I
got the idea when I was
doing the Meatloaf Story
on stage," Steve
said. "I just
thought that there were
all these classic anthems
out there and tried to
come up with a way to tie
them together and
when I started thinking
about vampires, that was
that."

Christmas
2006, and Toyah took on
her first soap role
(apart from a one-off
appearance on Doctors
in 2000) when she made
her debut on the BBC
Radio Asian Network
soap/drama Silver
Street.
Toyah
was introduced as the
character Sean Brady's
estranged mother Siobhan,
the "wild
child" of her
family, returning after
many years with Sean's
sister. It's fair to say
it wasn't a particularly
happy festive time on Silver
Street back in 2006.
Toyah
has mentioned a few
times, including very
recently, that she would
like a part in a
(television) soap but so
far Silver Street
is the only one she has
appeared in.
Press
Release: Nepalese
children help sick London
children
On
the 17th of December
2008, Toyah Willcox will
open an exhibition of
paintings by Nepalese
children as part of the
first ever international
cultural exchange of
childrens paintings
between the UK and Nepal.
These unusual and
tranquil paintings
produced by 60 children
from 3 childrens
homes in Kathmandu will
be on display in the
childrens
department of St
Marys Hospital,
Paddington, London. Out
of the 6 current
exhibitions in London
hospitals, St Marys
Hospital is the largest
venue and the most
accessible to the
children, staff and
visiting public. Two of
the participating
children, Sunil Gurung
and Nisha Guide, have an
exceptional natural
talent for painting, and
for this reason we have
sponsored them to attend
art school in Kathmandu.
They have also been
chosen to travel to
London for the opening to
represent the 60 children
that donated their
paintings. The Guest of
Honour will be the
Nepalese Ambassador H.E.
Mr Murari Raj Sharma, and
the Guest Speaker will be
Dr Orlee Udwin, Lead
Child Clinical
Psychologist.
In
April this year the
Bedford Hill Gallery
exhibited 100 paintings
donated by children from
14 London schools. These
paintings are being
exhibited permanently in
3 orphanages and Kanti
Childrens Hospital,
Kathmandu. The
Childrens Art for
Children project brings
works of art created by
young people into
communal areas like
childrens wards in
hospitals to help
alleviate some of the
anxieties children face
in medical centres. The
paintings considerably
lighten plain, impersonal
and even drab areas with
their cheerful colours,
instantly changing the
dynamics of the place and
creating a more
optimistic environment.
As well as the
therapeutic properties of
the paintings, the
project also aims to have
the added benefit of
helping the children
relate to their peers in
the wider world.
The
current exhibition of 60
paintings now hanging in
St Marys Hospital
will go to a number of
childrens hospitals
in Belgrade, Serbia, as
part of the second
cultural exchange in
Spring 2009.
Official
Opening is to be held on
the 17th of December 2008
at 2:00pm at the
Paediatric Department,
Queen Elizabeth, the
Queen Mother Wing, 7th
Floor, St Marys
Hospital, Praed Street,
Paddington, London W2
1NY.
