Toyah opened her
warehouse, Mayhem, for Blitz pre-parties.
"Having come from punk, where women really
reinvented how we were treated, what was
wonderful about the new romantic movement was
that it wasn't sexist atall. It was slightly kind
of 'Bloomsbury', in that it reinvented people's
sexuality. People became very open about
homosexuality, bisexuality, and tried to redefine
everything. Everyone was an individual, but also
very stylish. And because the boys were so
feminine, it empowered the women as
well."
