{"id":22026,"date":"2010-10-16T14:06:08","date_gmt":"2010-10-16T13:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.toyah.net\/?p=22026"},"modified":"2015-04-01T14:09:19","modified_gmt":"2015-04-01T13:09:19","slug":"total-production-magazine-human-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toyah.net\/ds\/total-production-magazine-human-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Total Production Magazine: Human Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toyah.net\/humtpm10a.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"152\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"6\" \/>An interesting feature on The Humans, and interview with sound engineer Paul Nicholson, from the April 2010 issue of &#8216;Total Production&#8217; magazine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the recent debut tour by Toyah Willcox&#8217;s new outfit, The Humans, The foh and monitor mixes &#8211; and the live recording &#8211; were all engineered by Paul Nicholson who explained all to Mark Cunningham at London&#8217;s Scala&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><br \/>\nIn February, The Humans &#8211; the new outfit featuring singer Toyah Willcox, Bill Riefl in of R.E.M. and Chris Wong, with honorary member Robert Fripp (of King Crimson fame) on spaced-out guitar &#8211; played their first UK live shows in the wake of their d\u00e9but album, We Are The Humans.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/redsquareaudio.co.uk\/newinstall\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/THE-HUMANS-Total-Production-Magazine-April-2010.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toyah.net\/humtpm10b.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"352\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"5\" \/><\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Arial; font-size: small;\">After intimate warm-up shows in West Country churches, the four-piece astonished audiences at The Assembly in Leamington Spa, Cambridge\u2019s The Junction and The Scala in London\u2019s Kings Cross, where TPi saw them in all their experimental glory.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired covers of Nancy Sinatra\u2019s \u2018These Boots Are Made For Walking\u2019 and Hendrix\u2019s psych-rock classic \u2018Purple Haze\u2019 were the only vague nods to Toyah\u2019s 1980s pop past. With Mr. Fripp onboard &#8211; her husband of 24 years and a globally-worshipped God of Prog &#8211; there was never going to be anything mainstream about these gigs.<\/p>\n<p>Their intriguing sound has been variously described as \u2018art rock\u2019, \u2018twisted funk\u2019 and \u2018complex\u2019.
