Toyah announces 45th anniversary reissue of EP ‘Four From Toyah’

It will be released on digital/streaming platforms

Toyah Willcox is still releasing music, with her greatest hits album ‘Chameleon: The Very Best Of Toyah’ arriving in 2025, with a huge tour planned for 2026, but she started releasing music more than four decades ago. The singer was known, along with her band, for songs like ‘It’s a Mystery’, and it has now been announced that Toyah is set to re-release the EP ‘Four From Toyah’ to celebrate it’s 45th anniversary.

Announcing the news on social media, Toyah’s official account shared several images, including an original press release promoting the EP, along with photos of Toyah from the early 80s.

Releases: Four From Toyah – The 45th Anniversary

To mark the EP’s 45 anniversary, on Friday 30 January 2026, Four From Toyah is released on digital/streaming platforms with its original artwork. The expanded 8-track EP released in 2021 will also appear on digital platforms.

Classic Pop: Crimson Queen/Four From Toyah

There are two helpings of Toyah in the latest issue (#79, January/February 2023) of Classic Pop magazine: A review of the forthcoming ‘Rhythm Deluxe Edition’ of studio album In The Court of The Crimson Queen, and Four From Toyah, in a Top 20 EPs feature, with the 1981 release included at #15.

Four From Toyah – Fortieth Anniversary
• Cherry Red Records is delighted announce the newly remastered 40th Anniversary release celebrating Toyah’s 1981 hit EP Four From Toyah as a special expanded coloured vinyl mini- album exclusively for Record Store Day 2021.

• Produced by Nick Tauber and introducing a new band line-up the EP was led by the song ‘It’s A Mystery’ which became a hit and entered the top 40 UK singles chart, rising to no.4 in February 1981 and earning a silver certification from the BPI in March 1981. ‘It’s A Mystery’ became one of Toyah’s signature songs and is still performed to this day.

• This expanded release presents all four tracks from the original 7” EP on side one of the vinyl – remastered from the original mastertapes for the first time ever.

• Side Two includes the four original demo/incarnations of the songs which all started life in previous recording sessions, and again are remastered from the original mastertapes for the first time ever.

• The release carries stunning new artwork including previously unseen shots from the classic photography for “Four From Toyah” which saw Toyah in four different striking and meticulous looks representing all four songs and is pressed on ‘jungle green’ coloured vinyl echoing Toyah’s make-up from the front sleeve shot.

As of 15 minutes ago the EP was number 2 in the Rock Albums chart, 4 in the Hot New Releases chart, and number 8 in the Album chart.

These lists are updated hourly.

New Digital EP: Four From Toyah | Birthday Edition

fftbep18aOn Friday 18 May 2018 – Toyah’s actual 60th Birthday – a new digital EP will be released on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon. Four From Toyah | Birthday Edition includes four new and previously unreleased songs written by Toyah and Simon Darlow, their first release since 2011. The EP begins with the rousing lead track Telepathic Lover which you can hear an exclusive preview of here.

Two tracks heard in the Crime & Punishment production at London’s Scoop Theatre also feature, Who Let The Beast Out and Fire Escape. The EP is rounded off with the stirring, beautiful Our Hearts Still Beat, written specially for the end titles of the film In Extremis. There are currently no plans to make a CD/vinyl of this particular release available.

Burning Shed: First Four From Toyah

Burning Shed are now stocking the first four Toyah studio releases, Sheep Farming In Barnet (1979), The Blue Meaning (1980), Anthem (1981) and The Changeling (1982).

Featuring copious bonus tracks, these editions were pressed in 1999 and 2002 (N.B. These are not new pressings or remasters) and showcase Toyah’s adventurous and sophisticated fusion of Post-Punk and Art Rock at its very best.

The Changeling was produced by Steve Lillywhite and featured Be Bop Deluxe’s Andy Clarke on keyboards plus the formidable rhythm section of Phil Spalding and Simon Phillips (both soon to depart for Mike Oldfield’s band).

Four From Toyah: 35th Anniversary

The Four From Toyah EP, Toyah’s sixth UK single, was released this week in 1981. This was Toyah’s chart breakthrough release after almost three years of albums, singles and tours. Toyah can be seen performing the lead song, It’s A Mystery on Top Of The Pops on BBC Four tonight at 7.30pm and again at 11pm. It will also be available to watch online at BBC iPlayer after airing.
