Toyah by Melissa Mailer-Yates: Signed Prints Now Available

June 6th, 2012

The incredible The Changeling/Brave New World art by Melissa Mailer-Yates is now available to purchase by print: When asked by the artist for her favourite photograph from the 1980s Toyah chose the wonderful image from ‘The Changeling’. The resultant painting inspired by this awesome picture was displayed at the premiere of ‘The Power Of Three’ movie in London, November 2011. The production of a print was discussed, and Toyah chose the hospice which cared for her mother, St Richard Hospice, as a beneficiary from the sales.

This giclee print is the result of that discussion and is available in two sizes, 18″ x 18″ and 26″ x 26″. It is printed on a thick, heavyweight watercolour paper (190 gsm), with a textured matte surface giving it the look and feel of a stunning original work of art. Both inks and paper are archival quality. Each print is produced to order, and is individually signed by the artist. Postage and packing is included in the price, and will be dispatched as soon as it is ready.

Changeling Resurrection: Toyah Takes London… into Nightflight

April 22nd, 2012

Andrew York’s stunning art, celebrating ‘The Changeling Resurrection 2012’ playing London (it’s sold out dontcha know!). Andrew generously created this Toyah masterpiece especially for Falling To Earth, helping us to mark the occasion in style! Toyah tweeted late this afternoon: “At last! At bush hall! Very busy. There’s 2 film crews in tonite. Can’t wait 2 rock“. Fitting that, the incredible, ‘The Changeling’ is finally being celebrated as it always should have been.

This evening, as Londoners mark the album’s 30th with Toyah, I’ll be consoling myself by ploughing through my new Doctor Who: Revisitations 2 box set (a pressie from a brilliant mate – Thanks Mark!). Please click above to view a larger version of the “Toyah Takes London” art, and here for a version without text. (Thanks again to, the amazingly talented, Andrew and to Dean Stockings/Sean Chapman for the wonderful photo/imagery • Original photo © Toyah Willcox/Dean Stockings | Art by Andrew York • View more from the shoot at toyahwillcox.com)

The Changeling Resurrection: Countdown: 1 Day To Go

April 13th, 2012

There’s now just one, yes one, day to go until the first gig of ‘The Changeling Resurrection 2012’ tour.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘The Changeling’, artist Mark Satchwill created this amazing Toyah art.

Mark said: “It’s 30 years since Toyah released The Changeling, and as she is touring the album I thought I would do a painting to mark the occasion. The painting is inspired by Toyah’s amazing and colourful image and the songs lyrics of the album. It was painted digitally in ArtRage 3.5 Pro.”

A fantastic, lasting tribute to the album, it’s lyrics, themes and imagery. Visit Mark’s official website, and his blog.

10 Minute Portraits: Day 124: Robert Fripp

March 29th, 2012

Artist and occasional writer, Matt Soffe is just over a third of the way through his year-long portrait blog, and today’s subject is, none other than, Robert Fripp.

…The guitarists’ guitarist, he pioneered the innovation of tape-looping in rock music (christened ‘Frippertronics’), improvised the guitar solo on Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ and devised the sounds for the Windows Vista operating system. He also married Toyah Willcox, came up with the ‘New Standard Tuning’ for guitar and has, to date, released over 700 records.

About the blog: This blog will run for one whole year, and in that time I’ll post a single portrait every day. Each one of these will be drawn in 10 minutes or less (I use the alarm on my phone – as soon as it beeps I stop, press snooze and move on to another one). 10 minutes, that’s it. In that time I’ll try to achieve two things: A quality drawing and a good likeness. I can’t always guarantee either but I’ll be striving for both!

Crimson Queen on Canvas

March 24th, 2012

This great ‘Crimson Queen’ Toyah art by Cliff Matthews is definitely worth another look. It really captures Toyah’s “Crimson Queen” aura and would look amazing on a wall!

It’s available to buy: £285 (70x50cm, acrylics on box canvas), and Toyah herself has saw the painting and given it her seal of approval and trademark “Big Love” autograph.

View the painting here and Toyah with Cliff, here.

It would be good if the same could happen with Mark Satchwill’s amazing works of Toyah art.
